I ended up using the exact same solution! The only annoying thing is that I want "untrusted apps" to open external links in a new DEFAULT tab so that I don't carry over the whitelisted cookies but that requires manual "right click > open in" with the default setup.
Is end-to-end encryption going to be part of a modern IRC experience? Please, this is an absolute must. And don't make it optional if possible. Make non-e2ee optional.
I keep having the feeling like Google is making its sites unusable on FFX. Same with FB, for example with Chrome m.facebook.com & mbasic.facebook.com serve different pages whereas Firefox gets the dumbed down mbasic content on both domains. I think there are several examples out there where Google does the same.
Signal is about _privacy_ not necessarily anonymity. Understand the difference?
edit: And anyways, if you read their blog posts you can see how you phone number is only required to make it easy to connect for the masses. You already have your social graph in your contact book.

What are you talking about? It's owned by Rakuten, a Japanese company.
I'd really love to support ProtonMail but one thing I can't swallow is that there's no server-side search of email bodies (only to/from & subject) because it's encrypted. This kills the possibility of searching through years of newsletters & stuff :/
ProtonMail for mail. ProtonVPN just launched, too.
If the msg content is encrypted what metadata should I "worry about" when using WhatsApp IF I am okay with not being anonymous (eg. for everyday use with friends). What can FB tell me based on JUST WhatsApp? (let's say they haven't connected my identities with FB yet)

Hoping more and more people start to show their support for services such as this one by joining and bringing friends. They are running circles around Signal lately.

We're starting to completely lose control over our privacy. It seems to be happening at an accelerating pace. The recent US vote about ISPs selling browsing histories is just a hint at things to come. We, as technical folks, are responsible to do what's ethically best. The average Joe has been boiled like a frog by companies who prey on our personal data. They aren't going to do anything about it.
Is it just me starting to really have enough of "secret agendas" of Facebook and other internet giants? What the hell are the legislators doing? Even if you say that the advertising-based business model is OK where do you draw the line? Do they really need to know what kind of a psychologic personality I am and what kind of porn I watch ?! (exaggerating... but who knows nowadays)
What the hell is going on around the world? I can't believe this sh*t. Why are we putting up with this?!
The state of surveillance we are headed towards is getting more and more ridiculous each day.
It's 2016. They are a financial company. Why aren't they implementing TOTP codes? NIST officially deprecated SMS.

pro tip: you can do cmd+h to hide all windows
What's different compared to using nativefier on web.whatsapp.com? I've been using that for a while now
Are these kind of things possible with WhatsApp? (on iOS specifically, and now that it even uses e2e) I don't know if I should trust them with Facebook being behind the wheel...
I would love it if Swift could become the next-gen C++ for cross-platform development. The Apple platforms/Linux advances are great but is it ever going to be adopted on other platforms? I don't think Apple would care, it's mostly Lattner & the team behind pushing the language. (bless 'em :))
I can't believe that no one ever mentions Signal in any of these articles.
