10x in three years for a "trillion dollar" startup is nothing
they're using ai instead of employing more people, how is that not exactly the same minus a completely morale-destroying marketing stunt
both of those companies combined are smaller than the number of people microsoft is trying to buy out right now
to spell it out: the implicit claim is "ai companies think ai is a scam, as evidenced by them using humans instead of ai", and I believe the huge internal ai use is evidence to the contrary
everyone who said "why aren't AI companies replacing their employees with AI?" should be rethinking their position
absolutely unbelievable (even by the very low standards I see, being in iot myself) that any commercial equipment would be doing upnp
someone manually poking a hole in their firewall is way more likely
if a person wants serious D supplement they need to be doing blood testing, there's no good universal dosage past the level of a daily multivitamin
asserting exclusive ownership of a product entirely from the public domain is absolutely not within the free culture ethos
would you sell me a commercial license for Pride and Prejudice itself?
selling limited commercial licenses for fonts generated from public domain works (without any attribution?) seems gross to me
plus becoming the technical target of every spy agency and tons of random hackers! likely the most trouble you can bring to your computers legally
that does not sound at all like my lab experience, nobody was doing ad hoc trial and error on basic animal management
this is already what they do, you have to justify usage of animals and meet standards for quality of life to do any research at a real institution
also animal research is a huge pain in the ass, nobody is doing it unless they have to
they're slightly less efficient than a good paste and need a higher pressure interface to seat well, but I like the zero mess aspect, ease of application, and knowing they'll never dry out
I wouldn't call them "reusable" since they do get crushed onto the chip or heatsink pretty hard and tend stick
why did it take 9 years to not even come to market?
ah, "Today, Encora is focused on building a national sales force and working to secure coverage from insurers."
how will "we" be paying for it?
to be a bit tautological, openscad is nice but only for the things openscad is nice for. I prefer freecad for almost everything except highly parametric shapes. Plus you can do openscad inside of freecad.
are you asking why people who enjoy playing with legos would be unhappy about automating away playing with legos? strange choice of analogy
RFCs were originally formalization of what was being used in practice, home.arpa was chosen apparently for reasons of beauracratic convenience rather than what would best serve existing users, who all would prefer .lan and continue to do so since that was published in 2018
>we're going to be able to create systems that are far more complicated than anything we could make before
I think this is very true but I'm not excited about it!
I see commit hashes used all the time, like in yocto recipes for example
the appeal of the backblaze stats is that they provide data, not anecdotes
on the front page of HN multiple times every day? I think it sucks but it's here now
there's no secret, they're just expensive to manufacture
there is another solution that will be (and is) actually happening: diffusion of doctor responsibilities to other less regulated/trained workers
sucks but that's incentives for ya
you can buy a variety of pi models in the range of $50 to $15, so what?
we have had a home manufacturing revolution, though, and making every kind of hardware is crazy accessible, look at the explosion of niche products in every single hobby space over the past ten years
I miss absolutely nothing about etching my own single layer PCBs at home
real PCBs are so much better than anything you can do at home, and so cheap, and so easy to order now, it's just not worth it
I think this might allow doing more things with the disc drive on all(?) ps2 models like running copied/homebrew ps1 discs (currently requires a modchip afaik), or potentially developing replacement optical drives/hardware emulators
vrchat is just weird enough (and for, maybe, weird people) plus the new user experience/children yelling slurs situation makes it hard to even bring up to general audiences
I do think hardcore sims and vrchat are the only good reasons to get into vr now, though
AI has really revealed the programmers who were temporarily inconvenienced idea guys
