And now I'm here reading your comment, small world. Good luck with your theme!
https://www.youtube.com/@cgpgreyI never know quite how to explain it: I guess it's best to say I make animated explainer videos about topic that catch my attention.
Adorable! I wish I had found this _before_ starting that project!
>It is just that story is being told backwards and in a snarky voice for dramatic effect, otherwise it would become clear that IATA codes are pretty much the most natural and logical thing in the world, which would rob author of a passable video topic.
I think most travelers, including myself until I started working on this project, have never heard of IATA and only know the ICAO codes -- which do seem like a real mess. It's weird to find out then when you look into them that a much better system exists, but it's not the one branded on the outside of all the airports!
I (mostly) like it better than reddit, but _shhhhh_ don't tell reddit.
My YouTube Channel:
https://www.youtube.com/cgpgrey. Started it with the idea that it could bring attention to some other professional projects, but it turned out that YouTube was actually the career.
For the record, I suspect most Hacker News readers would get a lot more out of the text version. There was a lot of detail trimming to make it work as a video.
What do the advanced options mean?
Yes it's really me -- I don't often comment on hacker news, but it was just funny to come across my own video here.
Nice until you have to actually use them.
It's about a video every six weeks, but I am not a typical YouTuber in this regard.
I don't remember the number of videos, but my goal was 200,000 subscribers before leaving my day job. Subscribers aren't views (and they mean less now than they did when I started) but that was my estimate on how big of a base I needed to be confident it would work. 200,000 subscribers wasn't paying me as much as I earned as a full-time teacher but I knew the lines would cross.
Yup it's me. Not a frequent poster on HN, mostly a lurker.
Yes: the ads you see on YouTube are split between the creator and YouTube. Now that I'm a larger channel there is patronage and sponsorships as well, but it all got started with building an archive of popular videos.
I can imagine an image in my head (sort of) but I can't not think in words. It's hard for me to even understand what people mean when they say they are thinking but they don't have an internal monologue going on in their head. Brains are weird.

"Lack of smashing and fixing windows may be hurting the economy"
This doesn't sound good:
"6. Enhance competition. The Commission will look for opportunities to enhance Internet access competition. One obvious candidate for close examination was raised in Judge Silberman’s separate opinion, namely legal restrictions on the ability of cities and towns to offer broadband services to consumers in their communities."

Thank you for the recommendation though, to be clear, I never became a professor. Just a guy with an Internet connection.
Not sure if this is what Hacker News would normally consider a business but I run a YouTube channel as my one-person business:
