We need aged and revitalized tech to breakthrough some copyrights.
Re:Loon’s final flight on Friday January 22, 2021 @02:05AM (#25869226)
I'm sure this type of tech can be rebooted at any time depending on the need. I think a sustainable commercial model would be difficult with the global slowdown. Many of these moonshots might sadly end earlier than anticipated. I don't think COVID is the end of all momentum in startups but it sure feels like it may take a generation to return.
It's malicious actors all of the way down /s

Re:Airbus hit as new US tariffs come into force on Tuesday January 12, 2021 @01:02PM (#25750695)
there is no reason to reduce tariffs in the immediate future and tariffs are typically a long term function for them to work. the true winners of this is embraer, Bombardier, and a few others.

Driving a wedge between us, eu is laser focused by many non eu, us companies due to the amount of possible market share gain. China is coming out with their own air transport company as well as a few other industries.

So really it is US, EU vs the world in some of these interests.

100% of the difference was military authorization for extra security and media slant. On some level this was allowed to happen.

I can't imagine the amount of political capital they gained from that information. By political capital I mean blackmail.
Re:Paris's 400-year-old book stalls fight to survive on Sunday January 03, 2021 @02:27PM (#25624352)
The tourism industry is dead without local government support. It will remain on life support until COVID is over or the lenders decide to scrap it. Pivoting to a local market will likely result in less revinue and a lot more competition. Banks might see an opportunity in creating other jobs but I doubt they will invest with a lot of uncertainty.
so thats where the NATO money went

Re:Erdoğan’s censorship now targeting media outlets in Europe on Thursday December 31, 2020 @02:46PM (#25596340)
He seems dead set on buying into the chinese model of governance, russian military hardware, and larger regional ambitions. All of those still seem to be out of his grasp.
>There's just no need to pay Americans for work like this

Is Doug Burgum aware that not every american is rich and has well paying jobs?

>not when we can save taxpayer money with international contractors

So lets give away taxpayer money away from our communities?

Re:Things You're Allowed to Do on Tuesday December 22, 2020 @11:07PM (#25514283)
Well things are way worse about this in europe than in the US. US justice system is selectively varied compared to others. Europe you just pay the flat fee. In the US you can get a little popular/street justice into it.
Re:The web is 30 years old today on Sunday December 20, 2020 @12:37PM (#25487962)
There may be a few sites I don't know about but I wish there was a reputable resource that saved archived information. I think libraries should archive everything on the internet if they haven't already. It would be really neat to give students the ability to surf the web of 2001's ecetera.

By archiving the internet I mean everything. Search engine performance on each date, ads, social traffic.

>Google has definitely just plain delisted a lot of older sites

This really sucks. What are the alternatives?

yes getting the entire western world to use compromised telecoms seems like a great idea
Re:Amazon Is Allowing a Chinese Knock-Off to Destroy Our Startup on Saturday December 05, 2020 @04:11PM (#25318398)
Look enforcement is typically difficult for anything being sold. The problem is many magnitudes larger than current abilities of enforcement agencies and a lot of these actions are in very grey legal areas internationally.

I believe we could legislate and leverage the executive to force agreements but anything done will likely be an uphill battle with no end.
