Teamblind has successfully predicted 10 off the last 3 layoffs
That time was 2010. That ship has sailed.
Pakistan has to pay 2-3 billion USD in next few weeks or else they will default.
They have to pay 8-10B USD this year or they will default.
They have to pay 70-80B USD in next 5 years or they will default.
Pakistan right now has 2 billion dollars in their forex that too because Saudi gave them 3 billion USD some time back.
Pakistan can collapse in just few months like Sri Lanka.
Pakistan was created for political reasons to keep India busy and to make sure USSR don't get such huge country as its ally.
It is now 75 years and Pakistan is still used by USA, Russia, China, UK and even smaller countries like Sri Lanka to keep India occupied.
Pakistan never should had existed.
It was created with a great human tragedy, it will go down with a great human tragedy.
Pakistan with 250 million population is out of money, power, oil, fertilizer and even food and water because they are spending 1/3rd of their money maintaining their army.
Yes.
The disruption has to come from bypassing credit card companies like Visa and Mastercard.
In India, almost every merchant is using UPI which saves them fees of credit card processing.
The world banking is getting more advanced and technical and I am sure payment gateways can bypass the credit card and currency conversion fees with direct bank to bank transfer.
For larger Amount, we are asking our customers to use Wise instead of stripe or PayPal as the saving for us is significant.
Yes. They only do bank to bank. But there is definitely a business model here.
If you can offer subscription model and can do bank to bank transfer with 0.5% fees, you will disrupt the whole subscription industry relying on visa/Master card monopoly. Not only this, banks also charge very high currency conversion fees which you can disrupt.
You of course need to build lot of things from scratch but with most of the banking now a days going online with new APIs, it is possible.
We are paying roughly 9% fees to stripe which includes currency conversion charges.
So if a customer pays us $100, we are getting $91 to our bank account which is absolutely ridiculous.
If anyone looking for next $10B-$100B business idea, work on making the transaction fees to 1% and you can take business from stripe and PayPal immediately.
Wise.com is doing this and I hope more such companies work on this.
Very apt username you have!
The correct title should be - Ancient India's lost city of 40k people
This is why India need Farm and Agricultural reforms. India can produce far more wheat (both for domestic usage and export) if they industrialize their agriculture.
Reddit is pretty much built on argument and war of words. They send you instant alert if someone replies to you via 3 channels and want you to check that reply with constant highlighting of new mesages.
They want you to keep track of your karma and get positive dopamine hit with the upvote alerts.
These sites are like drugs. I am surprised why there is not much talk about this.
> Reddit is grossly overmoderated
I think bigger problem is poor moderation. Most of the mods are driven by some agenda and even propaganda.
Instead of focusing on quality, they focus on how their subreddit content can be aligned to their agenda.
Any user who doesn't comply, gets banned. Since roughly only 1% user actively engage in a subreddit, update macha end with Eco chamber.
This.
It will definitely hurt us financially as we have around 10 domains with 20 email ids. We can't delete them due to older emails but can't complain as Google did allowed free account for 10 years.
I hope there is a service Migration of emails from Gmail to other platforms.
We are subsidizing the product is also a lie by companies. They just want the recurring revenue by selling ads/cartridges etc.
This is why you need a staging server and test cases. You only upgrade in the weekends after fully testing.
Also, you always need to be extra careful with payment code. We test it multiple times before deploying it.
Granted all this wouldn't had helped OP, still you need to test everything before upgrading and deploying.
For webmasters, the damage these rogue bots, tor, hack attempts can just bring down the whole business. I think more and more smaller websites will be opting for cloudflare in coming days.
Are Skype and Whatsapp even comparable? Whatsapp was competing with SMS (at least in developing countries) and it had a killer feature of making groups. Anyone who had a phone moved to WhatsApp overnight as they didn't wanted to pay for SMS.
But I can't send email reminders with Notion, right? Also I think we can't make weekly reports in Notion.
I am thinking of using Microsoft Teams or will try to create a simple app by myself as last option.

We are a SaaS company of 12 and because everyone is working from home, it is getting very difficult to track individual performance on daily and weekly basis.Ideally we are looking for following features1. User put the daily tasks he will be working on when he starts the day
2. At the end of the day, he will put what he did along with what results he got
3. We can send users emails every day...
I can use Ruby on Rails but I don't think an RoR app can handle thousands of comments per minute in an optimised way. I run a midsize app in Rails 5 and already having lot of scaling issues.
Iirc Reddit stopped open sourcing their code from 2017 and I guess understanding and running that 12 year old spaghetti code wasn't worth it anyway. I don't see anything useful on their github page too https://github.com/reddit
There are already some great android apps available so I guess no need for any official app. Check out Harmonic and Materialstic for example.

I am planning to build something like Reddit for our Region (it will mostly be about regional topics).I found out Reddit is getting 250M comments per month and though we will never be this big, I am wondering what technology stack we should use to build Reddit to overcome scaling challenges.I believe the DB will be Mongo but what can be the right web stack?

I am using Udemy videos to sharpen my Ruby on Rails skills but following videos is a really slow way to learn web development. Not to mention the slow pace of author moving between topics.I used to love CodeSchool and looking for something Interactive to learn Ruby on Rails where you build app(s) simultaneously as I am not a beginner. Is there any such platform available on the web?

May I know which is the best way or app to read HN on Macbook Air? I found an app called "Octal for Hacker News" on App store but it only works with M1 chipset.
I'm thinking of using Ruby On Rails though worried about scaling problems. I am already having problems with our another website which get just hundred thousand unique visitors only.
I will explore some other frameworks too. Most likely I will go with mongo rather than postgres.
Do you think SO can handle 10% of its current traffic if built using Ruby on Rails?
I am building it for a region only so I know it can never get traffic comparable to SO.
There are plenty of contractors in India making $8-10k a month so there must be thousands in EU making $11k a month or more due to proximity and language advantage.
Check freelancing sites to get some idea. Plenty of guys getting long term work at $60-$80 an hour.

As per their 2008 blog post, they are built on ASP. Net with other MS technologies. I am planning to build something like SO and was wondering what web framework to go with?
It is not in AWS interest to give too many options to their users to restrict the usage and expenditure.
AWS can certainly do a better job in telling me how to optimise my AWS hardware and expenses
In OPs case, if you search in Google, you will find this AWS hacking happen a lot with many users including me and AWS support was extremely kind to me to give additional credits to offset that expense.

I am sure most of Twitter activity is bots and trolls. Banning them will hurt Twitter significantly.
Controversial posts on social media like Facebook, Twitter etc get most attention and user involvement.
Social media sites will only do virtue signaling but never fix the root problem.
