Re:What Is the Most Free TLD? on Tuesday August 31, 2021 @07:38AM (#28366588)
I found https://www.orangewebsite.com/ - no idea if it's trustworthy or not, but they promise "Signing Up Anonymously", paying with BTC or Cash-per-mail, etc
Re:What Is the Most Free TLD? on Tuesday August 31, 2021 @07:15AM (#28366392)
I guess because you need a special DNS server for them with your default browser - onion is directly linked to TOR.

So, next step would be an iceland hoster. Any suggestions for icland only hosters / data centers?

Re:Helvetica Now Variable on Tuesday August 17, 2021 @01:04PM (#28212179)
How does this work? Normally I download and install TTF files and install them on my computer. How are licensed fonts work? Is there some kind of proprietary installation?
Re:How private is my VPN? on Friday August 13, 2021 @07:16AM (#28167611)
Simple privacy VPN Check:

Do you own the VPN hardware? That's the answer of is it's private / secure.

Re:Mario Paint Masterpiece on Thursday August 05, 2021 @06:19AM (#28071805)
You don't even need a SNES to make the Music, there are several remakes of that online!

Re:Breaking WPA2 by forcing nonce reuse on Wednesday April 14, 2021 @11:48AM (#26808721)
That is from 2017, why is this on the main page?
Why is quickly hitting Esc working? It's perfectly working and that is strange.

Please, stop it. Some things just shouldn't be.
Re:Building Rich Terminal Dashboards on Tuesday February 16, 2021 @07:03AM (#26153128)
I don't want my terminal tools rely on a Python pip library. This Rich really looks cool and is nice, but nothing for (my) server use.

(Thanks to @joseluis who posted about notcurses here)

Meanwhile india: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mission_Shakti

btw: The article is behind a paywall :(

That is the problem, when many sites are hosted in the same country (USA). DMCA = US law.
Well, it seems not to have a Swype functionality. Actually, on small Touchscreens without feedback this is quite essential.

We really need an full open source keyboard with some kind of Swype. Sadly I don't know any.

Re:ECC matters on Monday January 04, 2021 @08:03AM (#25630768)
I was reading it and thought: wow, this guy is absolutely right! Great things he's talking about. After reading it, i saw it was Linux Torvalds :D
Re:Why can’t you buy a good webcam? on Tuesday December 22, 2020 @06:09AM (#25505097)
Absolutly! Also, Webcams are almost not developing. e.g. the Logitech C270 is 10 years old and is still selling for 30-40€, I think almost the same price since 2010.

Imagine the phones or cameras in the year 2010. I really think the webcam industrie is a cartel (not to say mafia).

Q: Now, 007, do try to return this equipment in pristine condition.

007: I'll do my best.

Q: That's what I was afraid of.

Re:I spent eleven years working on this Line Rider track on Thursday November 26, 2020 @12:29PM (#25221933)
You probably know the song, if you watched the Matrix movies.

I guess, I'll watch Matrix this evening. The song he used for the video really is amazing and gives Matrix Vibes. (Chateau - Rob Dougan)

Re:Why Getting Paid for Your Data Is a Bad Deal on Monday November 23, 2020 @06:26AM (#25185629)
Getting 10$ a month for using Gmail? Sounds like a deal for me. At the moment these companies get my data for free thinking about it

Re:Ask HN: Will Apple M1 mean better support for Raspberry Pi? on Wednesday November 18, 2020 @08:00AM (#25136242)
I would like to see an M1 in a ThinkPad... But Apple with macOS only and the big obstacles against Linux will probably not help the Raspberry Pi ...
Amazing text. Without them, in their story, the history would probably totally different ;)

"And by the time we got to Rome, well . . . what Caesar saw, Caesar conquered, and we followed in his wake. We had been entreated to join his armies in order to protect Roman stores from vermin, and, locked in step with the Imperial Legions, we marched all the way to Britannia."

In Germany (probably in most european countries) it's not allowed to add vitamin D to food. So it's really important to know about it.

Still, almost no one knows about it...

Biohacking!
No. I'm a computer scientist and work at the computer. In my free time i play at the computer. I don't like to walk around for kilometers in my free time.

Just because some people want to do it / can do it, it is not the same for everyone.

Yes - if you don't want to use VMs every day. Still it depends how long you want to use it, for 5 years it could be a bit tight.
How do we deserve Valve?

Okay: Any possibility to support their open source work? (except of using steam)

the most important sentence from this paper for a TL;DR:

"This randomized clinical trial found that psilocybin-assisted therapy was efficacious in producing large, rapid, and sustained antidepressant effects in patients with major depressive disorder."

Re:Why do printers still suck? on Thursday November 05, 2020 @06:15AM (#24997285)
Why are there no real open source hardware printers? Some parts should be similar to 3d printers, probably the print head (for ink) or toner roll/drum (for laser) will be quite difficult. I saw some tries on hackaday etc, but no real printer with 100% open source & open hardware.

Does anyone know a project building that?
