I started on free, then upgraded to a 'pro' subscription. Now I'm paying the pro subscription + ~ $300 / mo in additional runner costs. Now looking at starting to self-host some runners to offset that growing cost.
There have been, but most non-technical users don't care or don't go through the hassle of using them.
Sometimes several weeks in my recent submissions.
Re:What will our economic future look like? on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @09:05PM (#49636931)
One of the sections is:

A profound economic transformation

In the extreme scenario, AI is more productive than humans at the vast majority of knowledge-work tasks. It does nearly all of them autonomously, and it creates essentially no new knowledge tasks for people. This scenario would likely require recursively self-improving AI, adopted quickly for knowledge work.

As AI diffuses, annual GDP growth rates reach 15% a year, leading the economy to double in size every 4.5 years. As a society, we’re far richer than we’ve ever been, but many fewer workers have jobs in knowledge work, and unemployment has risen beyond typical recessionary levels.

It takes a while to actually login while it provisions some cloud infrastructure in your name. Let's see if it can build something interesting!

I've been using Amazon ECR as an alternative source.

This is what's happened at my workplace. We account for time spent working on developing new products differently that development time maintaining legacy applications. Because they are reported for tax purposes differently.

WEX Inc, a global fintech company founded in 1983. We provide tech solutions in corporate payments, fleet management, travel industry, and healthcare. We have hundreds of current openings, both fully-remote as well as on-site. I've been with the company about 3 years. Competitive pay, excellent benefits, and a great work culture. Happy to answer any questions about my experiences.

Section 6.5 discusses non-payment by client, and charge backs.

https://www.upwork.com/legal#clientpayments

I think just to preserve brands goodwill, Upwork should absorb the cost (which they have to this point), pursue legal action against the client, and not punish the freelancer.

I don't know the legality of withholding payments for future work due to the freelancer. I don't believe they have a right under the terms to do that, but I would not do any future work for free. That could be a breach of contract on Upwork's part, although haven't read through these terms enough to know that.

If you direct their web vitals tool to test itself (https://web.dev/vitals/), the report isn't great:
