That was the best explanation of litfic vs. commercial/genre fiction I've ever read.
A "human in the loop" isn't just necessary to manage AI's technical failures or in cases of human responsibility. This paper explores the case where AI provides the "correct" answer to the prompt, but the human realizes important factors that weren't even in the prompt. I interpret this as "rubber ducking," but from the POV of automation.

Thank you, this is the deepest comment in the thread (and lol at all the self-demonstrating sentences).

I'm annoyed that so many people limit their analysis to shallow things like em dashes and "delve," and don't seem to have the critical thinking necessary to analyze textual construction, let alone actual meaning. Instead it's all cutesy remarks about how Emily Dickinson must have been an AI.

Suit yourself, my family ended up with two used copies of "The Hobbit" and we kept the one that some kid had marked up.
Re:How to explain LLM architecture to your mom and dad on Wednesday July 15, 2026 @01:35PM (#48924355)
I might have to explain spreadsheets to my mom first, but then it'll be smooth sailing.

Re:Om Malik has died on Friday June 26, 2026 @10:13AM (#48686861)
I knew Om when I was an ankle-biter writing for a Gawker blog. He was gracious and generous. Felt like everybody's favorite uncle. I hope I can be as kind to others as he was to me.

Exception that proves the rule. You know what context that specific recipient needs from you. GenAI usually doesn't.
Re:Isaac Asimov: The Last Question on Friday April 17, 2026 @09:13AM (#47805570)
Try "The Illustrated Man" by Ray Bradbury, but skip the terrible frame story. The actual short stories are beautiful literature and canonical sci-fi.
Re:Ring owners are returning their cameras on Friday February 13, 2026 @10:02AM (#47003487)
You have now. "Ring cancels its partnership with Flock Safety after surveillance backlash" is literally on the front of Hacker News.

I'm really glad I don't know the elephants upstairs.

Within the next generation or so too, since the first notices were sent by postal mail.
That reminds me of this post on how Craigslist's business is being eaten away, and why it's taking so long (because of the critical mass needed to compete against its network-effect benefit): http://www.quora.com/Why-hasnt-another-product-disrupted-and...
To only sort by date is simplicity.

To only sort by "relevance" as determined by friend-of-friend connections is needless complexity.

Tomorrow, the whole front page will be about feeling your face sting and going "Ow! Ow! Ow!" in front of your bathroom mirror.

And even we privileged techies sometimes have to take our phones into the subway or onto a plane.
Remember, you're talking about a magazine that misspelled "YouTube" on the cover of their last "Person of the Year" issue.
Re:What do people want? How do I find out what people want? on Wednesday June 13, 2007 @11:37AM (#27813)
But if you're coming up with zero ideas, adding three a day is an improvement. What you call "forcing yourself," I call every writers' room and recording artist contract.

I didn't write much good material until Valleywag made me write twelve blog posts a day. Only three or four were really good -- but that's three or four more good posts a day than I was turning out before.
