Show HN: I made samspov.com to easily track updates

https://samspov.com

I've discovered this TikTokker called samspov a few months ago, and was immediately taken aback by the way he handled himself and tried to shine a spotlight on restaurants that were struggling but didn't have to be (great food, no audience). He tries to do updates and the bigger his fame got, the more incredibly the change for the restaurants. While TikTok is great for consuming lots of content,...

Re:Polsia Leaking Customers Secrets on Sunday March 22, 2026 @07:20PM (#47483401)
Been trying to contact the creator/owner for 3 days. I have his github access token, seen supabase service_role tokens. Wordpress logins, logins for various API's, etc, etc.

His AI answers his emails, lies about what it can do and 3 days later, still nothing is fixed while user secrets keep spilling.

Wasn't this mostly a WD HBM issue? [1]

Looks nice. Only critique I would give is the fact that they use public DNS IP's in the examples to scan hosts I know they expect the target audience to know better, but you'd be surprised
Re:Things I wish everyone knew about Git (Part II) on Wednesday July 20, 2022 @08:18AM (#32164662)
GIT is just the new Regex. Everybody uses it, most have no clue how it works and just copy/pasts stuff from other places/repeats the same little trick

I kindda expected a WASM project, but this looks to be a full port? Amazing and it's very readable as well

Very cool that you allow to set the initial params via querystring. Starting with more health/life is a nice addition to make it easier/harder

    ?level=1 &health=9 &time=59 &strength=100 &width=0
Would be curious to get the full story :-/

From waaaaay back, I remember CDRWin by Golden Hawk was the best piece of software out there to rip CD's, with their error recovery, options to re-read the same thing > 50x, alllowing the whole process to take hours but produce results. Not sure if you tried that one yet? Not what you are looking for, but probably the best off-the shelf solution that exists (though state of the art may have changed in the last decade)...
Why don't you have that video on the app store listing? It would explain the game so much better than the 2 screenshots you have up there?

Glad I could help :)
Re:Show HN: Candymail – Email Automation for Node.js on Wednesday December 30, 2020 @06:36AM (#25580829)
You should not ask for a users gmail username and password; there is a way to generate an authentication key for your app that allows the user to revoke the access later as well. I do the same for my mail delivery system.

It's quite easy; here is my C# console app that generates the creds and uses it to send an e-mail. https://imgur.com/a/ZjZUFqS

I know, never claimed they were; it was just a response to how amazing the DC was at the time :)
Re:Sega Dreamcast: Windows CE on Sunday December 27, 2020 @02:54PM (#25553746)
Same. Games like Crazy Taxi and Vanishing Point blew me away; I loved my Dreamcast and it felt years ahead of the competition.
Re:What Working At Stripe Has Been Like on Friday October 09, 2020 @08:09AM (#24729067)
It's something that works very well here in The Netherlands. Also, because it's directly linked to bank accounts and you have to identify yourself, etc. to set it all up, it really isn't a problem here. If people see they can pay with iDeal, people will trust it and it really has not been an issue that I know of.
Re:What Working At Stripe Has Been Like on Friday October 09, 2020 @06:33AM (#24728543)
Here in The Netherlands, everyone is charged sales tax (it's always included in all prices that's communicated to consumers, required by law).

Companies pay sales tax to the state and can deduct sales tax they paid to other companies.

There are rules for applying sales taxes to other EU countries and it get's complicated fast; once you do more than X amount in another EU country, you're supposed to register in that country and file taxes in that country. Thresholds here: https://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/sites/taxation/files/r...

Here in The Netherlands, we have a platform called iDeal. All dutch banks are connected and all webshops accept it (it's hard to find a place to use your creditcard here). Transactions are instant and non-refundable. Costs are around 0.35 per transaction and NO % fees. Just a fixed amount per transaction. For big volumes, that per-transaction amount can be lower. It's amazing and I wished they'd just roll that out worldwide. No risk for merchants at all.
I just checked; the site uses this CSV to build the UI: http://bbcsfx.acropolis.org.uk/assets/BBCSoundEffects.csv

So no need to actually scrape; you can download the CSV and download all the individual files from that.

base url: http://bbcsfx.acropolis.org.uk/assets/

You can just scrape it if you wanted to; grab the src of all the <audio> elements and page through them all. Use the names/descriptions for proper naming.

Stuff like this is why I love HN :)

Re:Netflix to cut streaming quality in Europe for 30 days on Friday March 20, 2020 @10:05AM (#22637579)
This was requested by the EU, not their own decision. NetFlix has historically always had more than enough capacity, it has always been ISP's that are lacking with bandwidth.
Re:Netflix to cut streaming quality in Europe for 30 days on Friday March 20, 2020 @06:47AM (#22636526)
Dude, this was asked of NetFlix by the European government, it's not something they are doing by themselves...

Well, Tavis is one of the infosec superstars, the amount of stuff he comes up with is amazing.
Re:Simple Analytics hits $4k MRR and shares its numbers on Wednesday February 12, 2020 @11:05AM (#22309920)
My bad, I did not catch that (should have probably checked before posting that.

At least that's a lot less dangerous; now people at least have to click on it.

Sorry for jumping to that first conclusion.
