A startup @yourjumpstart for earthquake insurance pays out even if you have no damage, assuming you are in the epicenter of a large enough earthquake.

Re:How can Ethereum systematically scale better? on Thursday June 29, 2017 @10:11AM (#14663437)
True, but the developers of those open protocols have no or little financial incentive for the success of their standard. Traditionally closed protocols had the financial incentive. Blockchains are different in that way.

Re:Show HN: Monthly earnings of 23 Twitch streamer on Thursday January 29, 2015 @04:59PM (#8969136)
Yup, all streamers earn a lot more money from subscribers than ads. You can see that in their streams. They pay more attention to subs and most hardly ever run ads.

The estimated ad rate is way too high.

Were there other decisions by Yishan that you pushed back on? How many? Possible he felt that he did not have enough influence as CEO, not enough confidence from the board and couldn't run the company as he desired.

"You appear to want something secretive to be uncovered here"

Not exactly, just wanted to know more. I know satellites and spacecraft in the past have used nuclear/radioactive energy:

Re:X-37B plane can stay in space for years, power source? on Sunday October 12, 2014 @07:09PM (#8446875)
Says it is powered by a single engine, but states it powered by hydrazine. Later on contradicts, and says it is powered by lithium ion batteries. Which is it?
Re:X-37B plane can stay in space for years, power source? on Sunday October 12, 2014 @02:30PM (#8446126)
It states at the end: "The X-37 is powered by a single Rocketdyne AR2-3 rocket engine, manufactured by Pratt & Whitney. Each engine can produce a maximum of 29.341kN thrust and uses solar power and lithium-ion batteries instead of the traditional fuel cell system."

But earlier states: "Fuelled with military fuel JP-8 and hydrogen peroxide, the Rocketdyne engine of the X-37 is designed to run for nine months. The engine installed in the aircraft currently uses hypergolic nitrogen tetroxide or hydrazine."

Odd, no?

Thanks, that was really informative. The green X-Files uniform patch for the X-37 program is very ominous.

X-37B plane can stay in space for years, power source?

"The spacecraft are able to stay in orbit for months by using a solar array to generate power."http://news.yahoo.com/secretive-x-37b-military-space-plane-could-land-132030466.htmlWhy are the ground crew wearing protective gear if it just solar power? Seems like a radioactive power source with that type of protection.Thoughts?

Re:Reddit on Tuesday September 30, 2014 @02:47PM (#8390271)
Upvotes should be weighed by a metric. Just as an example: New users should have less voting power and users with more karma should have a larger voting power with their upvote.

Would decrease upvote/downvote bots, incentivizes good content (higher karma gives you slightly more voting power).

The reason for digital currencies is becoming clearer.

Re:Why Russians are Dying on Friday September 05, 2014 @11:13PM (#8277367)
chill fundamental change: Women's right to vote, African American right to vote, 16 constitutional amendments, legalization of drugs in many states, marriage for gay people in many states, abolition, abolishing abolition, end of Vietnam war, etc, etc.

Just because you view of fundamental change is different, doesn't mean we haven't made fundamental changes. Making changes this broad should take a long time.

So, yes we do have actual fundamental freedom.

Re:Why Russians are Dying on Thursday September 04, 2014 @01:09PM (#8269410)
You do realize that African Americans faced similar obstacles, but were still politically involved to gain rights. Abortionists and gay people were as well. Both faced physical threats. Being imprisoned was the case for African Americans during the 60s-70s.
Re:Why Russians are Dying on Tuesday September 02, 2014 @11:52PM (#8261424)
The management of Russia has indeed been broken for most/if not all of its history. I do not think it is a matter of freedom of information. With the internet, they have the tools to receive news/views from multiple sources.

The problem I have seen personally within Russia, is the lack of political involvement of most people. Political involvement and desire to learn more is not there. Within the US, a large percentage of people talk about politics in one form or another, but it does not happen in Russia very often. They are more concerned with the problems of day to day living. A very pessimistic attitude and aloofness of the political system and what to do to change it.

More people in Russia need to be active and aware of politics and challenge powerful politicians.
