No it's not. You do want your vendors to make money working with you. That way they are incentivized to help.
Get a lockbox at the bank
Re:Theory X and Theory Y management on Monday July 03, 2023 @10:45AM (#36573654)
Yeah, absolutely

E.g. doordash drivers are clearly X, and engineering teams are usually Y

Metal usually has a plastic coating though, doesn't it?

Re:Federal Reserve Path Is Murkier After Bank Blowup on Monday March 13, 2023 @01:41PM (#35139399)
I don't want to live in a world where I have to track down and personally inspect the factories and farms that produce my food.

If I deposit cash at a member bank that the government says is compliant with their rules and regulations, that should not imply any risk taking on my side.

If I use a payroll provider like rippling that uses SVB as their payment rails, I shouldn't have to worry about that.

If I use a service that goes under because they can't fund payroll because of a banking supply chain issue, that seems rather hard to due diligence.

If you honestly hold that position, I suggest you get a little bit of empathy for decision-makers. It will make you a better member of society.

They just want to blame the users
Re:Federal Reserve Path Is Murkier After Bank Blowup on Monday March 13, 2023 @10:35AM (#35136225)
Nobody is calling for bailing out the shareholders in SVB dude. Only depositors.

You're going after a strawman.

What consumers personally and positively identify as "consumers"?

I don't see how this landing page speaks to "consumers"

It's also super jargony.

36% increase inbetween generations is absolutely massive though

Prior steps were about 10% or less.

Ah yes, so that we can have graduates get B.S. in BS
You're thinking about this policy area incorrectly

The 1% win no matter how we design the housing market. They don't need to thumb the scale

I see the same thing. Meanwhile watching offshore salaries go up up up month after month for senior devs (5+ yrs xp)
Ironically the top 1% don't have enough votes to block relaxed zoning, which would enable developers to bring more supply to your market
I'm not an engineer, so it's possible there are engineers in my company copying and pasting from stack overflow

Although we have a type system so they are probably adjusting things to fit

But none of our supply chain has restrictive licenses attached, and good faith errors are usually easy to correct way before they go to trial

I know because I have had to sign off on using worse packages when our use case doesn't comply with the license on the best in class package

Not every single startup.

It's not hard to read the licenses, and I have a fiduciary duty not to open up my company to unnecessary liability

Re:FTX Contagion on Tuesday December 06, 2022 @08:35AM (#33879404)
How many of these VCs used their reputations to pump shit coins (which they got along with equity when they invested in these Ponzis) then sold the shit coins to retail investors?

Seems like they sold unregulated securities

I can't renew my driver's license online anymore until I prove my citizenship.

Alright, fine, I have my birth certificate, and I took it to the DPS.

Well I can't just walk in... I have to make an appointment online. Alright, fine...

But appointments are booked solid for 2 months.

So I guess I'm driving with an expired license until then.

The frustration you're feeling is that, no matter how obvious the tone or implication, advocates will never acknowledge that it is real because what you are describing is a phenomenon that cannot exist.

It's gaslighting.

hilariously, it is because of increasing regulation that users will need to upload more sensitive data to more services.

Even requesting to delete your data in the EU requires the submission of sensitive data in order to verify your identity and fulfill the request.

Re:Tell HN: Beware 'Ungrowth' in Your Job on Tuesday October 18, 2022 @09:48AM (#33247069)
It's important to look out for yourself and your career

I'm a founder at a small company, and the current environment has us stagnating a bit

My biggest fear is that our best contributors go elsewhere because we aren't able to fully enable their growth here right now

I've lucked out in terms of how loyal my team is, but loyalty only goes so far, and the business has an obligation to enable the careers of it's contributors

Basically just saying, there are two sides to every deal and if you're not thriving due to environment, you have a responsibility to yourself to find an environment where you will thrive

Re:Ask HN: Firing an employee under a month before vest? on Thursday October 13, 2022 @09:56AM (#33190998)
Fire them. The other employees will get pissed if you don't.

Everybody already knows they aren't doing any work.

Re:Apple is quietly pushing a TV ad product with media agencies on Thursday October 13, 2022 @09:32AM (#33190693)
Because raising prices doesn't necessarily increase revenue.
Re:Apple is quietly pushing a TV ad product with media agencies on Wednesday October 12, 2022 @10:47AM (#33177760)
What do you do when you find out that you make more per ad-tier user than you do for ad-free user[0]?

The incentives go in the wrong direction from a UX perspective
