No technology changes the undercurrent behind so much suffering that we should strive to balance compassion for self and others. This is a moving target, contextual, and essential.
AI agent diversity will be on the upswing, so we've got that going for us. We'll also be more insulated from the climate by virtue of all of our bodies being lashed together into a machine and flesh lattice controlled by the executive overmind.
What remains of humanity will be safely cocooned inside the biomechanical membrane between the chaotic outside world and whatever environment the compute prefers. The perspiration of its leviathan breaths and a circulatory system that pumps coolant will ensure the temperature differential.
Like how single cell organisms were engulfed into multicellular organisms, so shall our descendants be engulfed. Countless immobile interconnected bio-systems with humanity as its ancestor. They'll less adaptive than us but more optimally specialized. I wonder how recognizable humanity would be when we're tessellated into one large interconnected amalgamation. Furthermore, I wonder how many generations we have left where we'll still need a face and outward looking eyes. Skin cells don't need flagella after all.
Well, as that means there's lots of money to be made lowering costs for research and training! What tools have we used in the past to lower those costs? Automation.. Hm, what if we had AI completely automate AI research? Uh oh, we just rationally found outselves in a trajectory where we lose control of our own trajectory because of economic incentives.
It is wild how fast we're hurtling towards this outcome, lmao.
you could look for the substring "AI" in the title and get 95% of the way there.
Lotta unsubstantiated claims you're making there.
To create things via AI without being able to comprehend the output is to trust completely in the agent(s). Operating that way is more optimistic than experience has taught me to be.
There's a lot more professionals that have RTX cards than H200s. You're inevitably see more development and experimentation on things actual humans have lmao.
An epub is just a plain html webpage compressed into a zip and its extension changed from .zip to ".epub". Assuming you have a web browser, you have something that will almost certainly render your epubs contents.
PDF is not nearly as pleasant under the hood. It's down right lovecraftian.
Wild thing to say. There's not enough information provided in these dockets for me to form an opinion whether or not any of these dismissals are warranted or unwarranted.
Take a breath. Balance compassion for self and others.
I'm old enough to remember being fatigued with so many people talking about making "apps". Programs that run on a phone. Before that everyone was excited about blogging. Web 2.0 ugh.
Before that we were excited about the wheel and the creation of fire. All capital drained into those ephemeral fancies.
The cycles cycle on.
Sorta reminds me of UDP amplification attacks.
I appreciate your perspective on this. We're living in an era of sensationalism and noise. It wont get better until a lot of people from every political disposition becomes tired of hollow words designed only to create BIG FEELINGS.
Imagine an era where the majority leans in on a balance of compassion for self and others.
Proprietary food.. that you can only buy from a single company are all doomed? Might I offer an example that, under some definitions, has not failed despite that strategy. The McRib.
I was going to offer the twinkie but I guess hostess declared bankruptcy, so maybe you're right.
The fact it's text only means we only get AI text and not images, I suppose. lmao.
You could express the offset with scientific notation, tetration, and other big math number things. You probably don't need the whole offset number all at once!
It uh.. was kind of weird that a junior dev wrote.. an.. rfc? I sense that this is a company that has somewhat adapted that concept for some kind of internal communication, or it's AI slop. All the jobs I'd ever had would probably call something like that a "design proposal" or similar.
Maybe this is a folksy anecdote about a junior developer working for John Email designing the protocol for trinary morse code over a token ring of twisted pair barbed wire. An RFC for that kind of project would be natural.
In the spirit of this, I propose we start calling things like flowcharts, SVG images of digraphs, UML diagrams etc "articles of war" just to spice things up.
I typed "balancing compassion for self and others" and, surprisingly, there are zero results found.
If I could have any wish granted, I would wish for that balance to be preserved as the foundational learning before all things.
0 results found.
Verily, mine ears do smart, for folk now christen every trifle with some newborn word unkenn’d of honest ages past.
I don't want to bemoan this. There's some people who don't have the resources to house a bunch of people but do have authority over a parking lot. I applaud anyone doing what they can for others with what they've got.
Balance compassion for self and others.
I remember a different apocrypha for why they skipped from 8 to 10. They wanted avoid OS specific code that conditionally activated from the substring "windows 9" but meant for windows 95 and 98. One would imagine any code like that not being quite as helpful a few decades later.
Not interested until it can also show ads.

> Both people in the conversation imagine that the other 'gets it' - a delusory and false assumption
'getting it' isn't an all or nothing thing. It would be an illusion to take it to an extreme.
The idea of some people in your life being able to get you better than others, more quickly and with fewer words, is a fact of life. Comparative human connection bandwidth can be estimated by vibes, history, outcomes.
> Such reachouts are very very rare unless your software has gone viral in the right circles
Another anecdote. I had job offers coming out of my ears while I was posting videos of my indiegame on twitter. Only one video had substantial reach -- near the end of my time actively twittering. I think what helps is doing something as well as you can, and be persistently visible.
I don't think it's self aggrandizing. It points to a need to balance compassion for self and others. If you let that ratio get unbalanced in any direction it leads to bad outcomes.
Ah yeah, that slid by me.
Right, fusion stops being a net producer of energy on atoms heavier than iron.
A star’s fusion reaction ceases when too much of its core turns to iron.
Thank you for taking the time to provide me all this reading.
> that's a skill issue and not a fundamental property
This made me laugh.
You seem like you may know something I've been curious about.
I'm a shader author these days, haven't been a data scientist for a while, so it's going to distort my vocab.
Say you've got a trained neural network living in a 512x512 structured buffer. It's doing great, but you get a new video card with more memory so you can afford to migrate it to a 1024x1024. Is the state of the art way to retrain with the same data but bigger initial parameters, or are there other methods that smear the old weights over a larger space to get a leg up? Anything like this accelerate training time?
... can you up sample a language model like you can lowres anime profile pictures? I wonder what the made up words would be like.
