Re:Fingerprints are Usernames, not Passwords on Wednesday October 02, 2013 @08:09AM (#6481923)
Wife (not a techie) says she wants Android now, so there's no one stealing her fingerprints.

They are so fond of telling us, "If you've got nothing to hide, you've got nothing to fear."

What does Obama fear?

Re:Spain's new piracy penalty: Six years in jail on Tuesday September 24, 2013 @06:36AM (#6437027)
Spain, a country with high unemployment, takes a step towards crushing its IT infrastructure.
Re:Metadata Equals Surveillance on Monday September 23, 2013 @11:07AM (#6431453)
Everyone assumes metadata doesn't include the source data.

Even a compressed copy of your telephone conversation isn't the actual call, just the 'metadata' describing how it is compressed...

Re:Dear USA, my data has left your building on Monday September 16, 2013 @01:00PM (#6394280)
Perhaps the only language that the US will understand is a loss of business?
Re:U.S. government spied on Brazil's Petrobras oil firm on Monday September 09, 2013 @06:20AM (#6352590)
Well, at least we can all understand the "war on terror". It was really about securing US dominance via a secret system of courts, government agencies and secret deals between US corporations.

All this due to the ending of the cold war.

Now, with the Arab Spring, the US has sought to twist events into a new war. Syria being just the beginning...

It's all about protecting the data from non-US interests, Google has probably already given the keys to the NSA.
Re:N.S.A. Foils Much Internet Encryption on Friday September 06, 2013 @06:17AM (#6339576)
All the more reason for choosing Chinese own brand.
Google appear to be confusing the law with the loyalty of their customers.
Re:NSA Spying Documents to be Released As Result of EFF Lawsuit on Thursday September 05, 2013 @08:48AM (#6333764)
Supposing the Justice Department has committed a crime:

- What laws have been broken?

- What individuals broke those laws?

- What punishments are appropriate?

- Who decides who is guilty?

- Who gives out those sentences?

- Where will the criminals be held?

Additionally, is the President at liberty to override them?

If all else fails, would it be possible for the people to set up their own courts outside of the Justice Department for this purpose?

Re:NSA can't trust 'brilliant' people, will automate sysadmins on Monday September 02, 2013 @04:31AM (#6314082)
Idea: Yeah, let's just keep the top 10% and make them work 10x harder.

Reality: The most loyal are the least productive resulting in widespread dissatisfaction and even more leaks.

Yeah, I get the logic: 'terrorism' is knowing what the government is doing. Perhaps there's another logic: a government which hides in the shadows terrorizes everyone.
Re:Apple’s new ads make the company look lame on Tuesday August 27, 2013 @05:52AM (#6282449)
Cook is still trying to make a "faster horse" (as was his role during the Jobs era), but with Microsoft on the ropes and Google embroiled in NSA spying (undermining Glass), it's going to be a while yet before any of this matters.
Re:"Let's ban tiny phones" - UK Government on Thursday August 22, 2013 @07:15AM (#6256395)
Sounds reasonable, but what are the MP's going to do, since that's the only part of them able to talk?
Re:Judge sentences Bradley Manning to 35 years on Wednesday August 21, 2013 @11:48AM (#6251136)
OK, so that's 26 minutes per file.
Re:'Sending a message': what the US and UK are attempting to do on Wednesday August 21, 2013 @09:17AM (#6250003)
Spying on people is terrorism and should stop ASAP.
Re:New Details Show Broader NSA Surveillance Reach on Wednesday August 21, 2013 @05:35AM (#6249004)
> 75%

Wow, they're so accurate. Perhaps 100% didn't sound so good?

Re:New Details Show Broader NSA Surveillance Reach on Wednesday August 21, 2013 @05:34AM (#6249000)
> We want high-grade ore

Always enjoy listening to criminals giving their pathetic excuses. Communism was a joke and so, unfortunately, is the Obama administration.

Re:Genetically modified crops pass benefits to weeds on Monday August 19, 2013 @07:55AM (#6236690)
plot twist: it's Monsanto which is the real weed
TIL secret courts breed lazy judges
Any country with secret laws and secret courts cannot be trusted, so it's only the death of US encryption (chips, software, hosting and services).
It would be a mistake to apply principles and logic to war which is, in the end, a political decision.
Re:FP vs. OO, from the trenches on Monday July 22, 2013 @10:51AM (#6083995)
Long story short: the next big thing is a language which mixes both FP and OO.
Re:Fifty Shades of Grey Would Be Banned in UK? on Monday July 22, 2013 @08:54AM (#6083323)
Perhaps we could close all the churches, synagogues, mosques and temples to... protect the children.
Re:Art prodigy poses 'ethical nightmare' for parents on Monday July 22, 2013 @06:01AM (#6082810)
There is another option - don't sell the paintings.
