Re:Ask HN: How do you manage multiple learning projects? on Sunday November 05, 2017 @06:24PM (#15632420)
This is interesting and very applicable. But will this work with some online lessons that includes visuals like presentations / minor viz?
Re:Image Synthesis from Yahoo's open_nsfw on Thursday October 20, 2016 @08:35PM (#12757377)
For NSFW stories / erotica, there is Eros Errors (http://www.eroserrors.com/). Generated using Karpathy's char-rnn.
I'm thinking, isn't the robot somewhat unnecessary? Can't it be done by software instead? Maybe connecting into the inventory management system / POS if the grocery store and do the AI processing in it.
But it also has multiple orders of magnitude less in terms of memory. So they have so little or no room for excess.
Re:Your best passive income? (2015 Edition) on Thursday January 01, 2015 @02:36AM (#8822396)
Question though. How can ads be placed in a site like that? I'm curious because I want to serve ads for my site but Google Adsense always rejects me because of lack of content.
I actually really like doing text classification using Naive Bayes. I'm still new to it and still learning a lot. But one thing I'm having a hard time answering is explaining Naive Bayes classification in simple terms.

If that was asked to you, how can you explain Naive Bayes classification in simple terms?

Thanks. No accuracy stats though. It's optimized for news articles though. But right now, I'm expanding also into books.
Re:Show HN: Swing Copters in HTML5 on Thursday September 18, 2014 @08:02AM (#8334743)
Thanks for this.

I'll show this to my friend. My friend is waiting an HTML5 version of Swing Copters since it was released! It's because I showed him this[1] and is interested to do something like it for Swing Copters. Now that there is an HTML5 version, he can now proceed to his project.

One thing though, I think this version is easier than the original game. :)

Re:Thank HN: You guys helped me land my dream job. on Monday June 02, 2014 @10:43AM (#7833739)
This is good to hear. Congratulations Jared.

On a different note, I replied in this comment because I would like to ask something. Are there any other job openings at Kaggle? The career page only shows product manager and data scientist. I think I'm a mix of data scientist and a backend engineer. But I don't think I have experience doing work in energy industry.

Re:What do you use scala for? on Saturday May 17, 2014 @12:14AM (#7759208)
TextTeaser (https://github.com/MojoJolo/textteaser). It's an automatic summarization algorithm I created.
Re:What started your interest in development? on Wednesday May 14, 2014 @10:34PM (#7747634)
Friendster. It was the time when overlay layouts in Friendster was a thing. I was in high school that time and I want to impress my friends. I researched about overlay layouts and found a site where you can download and modify them. I wanted more, I want an overlay layout for myself. Not just anything that was downloaded in the internet. I learned that HTML is the way to do it. I studied HTML through PageTutor (http://www.pagetutor.com/html_tutor/index.html). It was the best tutorial I found.

After successfully created my overlay layout, I decided to create a website for our group of friends. I then uploaded it in Freewebs (now http://www.webs.com/). My teacher saw that site and ask me to join a competition. I won awards and made it up to 6th place in the national competition.

That was my realization. I realize that I can do and I want something like this. I decided to take up Computer Science in college. Learned how to code and that was it.

Thank you Friendster.

Re:Ask HN: Which game has an impressive AI? on Tuesday May 13, 2014 @08:57AM (#7737873)
I only play two games most of the time: DotA2 and NBA2K14. I can say they have pretty impressive AI. For both games, I rarely beat the AI with the hardest difficulty. Unfortunately, the lack of intelligence of the team mates for both games gives me a disadvantage that also adds to its difficulty.
Re:Dumb.domains on Sunday May 11, 2014 @03:30AM (#7728065)
Well, I own http://tease.red/ and http://teaser.link/ redirected to TextTeaser. tease.red may correspond to some porn cams because of tease. But I want it because I want it to be read as "teasered".

Like the text was teasered after it was summarized by TextTeaser.

I also own jolo.sexy. Just for fun though.

Re:Show HN: Spotify International Pricing Index on Wednesday May 07, 2014 @08:26AM (#7709731)
Spotify Philippines is super cheap. But I didn't realized how cheap it really is until I saw the site. I think they just launched last month with a really low price. Spotify Premium here in PH only costs 129 pesos[1]. How cheap is it?

Today, $1 = P44.28 so P129 is just $2.91.

Of course it was adjusted with the market value here in PH. It was really a good deal. They also partnered with the telcos here to boost their presence. And I think, they don't have much competition here in PH.

In my opinion, automatic summarization by abstraction. There are lots of automatic summarization algorithm that does extraction like TextTeaser (https://github.com/MojoJolo/textteaser). I think they do the job well but it doesn't have a realistic feel in it. To achieve it, I think automatic summarization by abstraction is the way to go. It almost mimics how humans summarized text. But I think there is still no algorithm that can really perform abstraction well.

I'm looking to try it in the near future. With a good training data, I'm looking into using genetic algorithm eventually evolving the text into an almost human summary. I'm excited for this!

Re:Ask HN: What are your favorite non-technical books? on Monday April 14, 2014 @09:08AM (#7585882)
Hunger Games.

I'm not really a book reader but I got hooked with the first movie and decided to read the books.

Re:The Micro on Tuesday April 08, 2014 @02:13AM (#7551680)
Regarding the #1. Size. I really like how tiny it is. I think it will be a perfect gift for my girlfriend that is into 3d stuff. Maybe she can 3d print some miniature models as a hobby and for entertainment. Not necessarily for practical use.
Re:Email, an idea so old that it's new on Tuesday April 01, 2014 @11:56PM (#7513476)
Hi Xiao, how you doin'? Still using PyTeaser?

Got a question though. How do you determine the news to send? Do you check read it all or you have an automated system in place for it?

Re:The Facebook Comment That Ruined a Life on Thursday February 13, 2014 @03:52AM (#7230226)
I agree with you. But I think we don't know the whole context of the thread. Let's give him a benefit of the doubt. The thread topic which we don't know is really important in this case.

My creative mind is thinking, what if the topic is like this... "What is the worst thing you imagine that you can't ever do?" And then he replied that way.

Also, I don't get it why didn't manage to see the whole thread? I guess it is sort of publicly available and can be accessed without even contacting the Facebook authorities.

Re:The Facebook Comment That Ruined a Life on Thursday February 13, 2014 @03:47AM (#7230198)
This is disturbing. They arrest the guy and sentenced to ten years in jail with just a screenshot of a Facebook comment as a starting evidence. It's kinda puzzling to me why didn't they manage to check the whole thread? I think it's simple enough and contacting Facebook for it is not needed.

What's the topic of the thread? We don't know.

Edit: Let's also not disregard the fact that the screenshot can be all made up. They can't find the thread. Maybe it was edited, or created through Photoshop. I think it's fairly easy.

Re:What side projects did you start in 2014? on Monday February 10, 2014 @08:58AM (#7211037)
You are working on something interesting. A suggestion though, did you try Google Hangout?

Hoping to lurk around though.

Re:Today is Facebook's 10th anniversary on Tuesday February 04, 2014 @09:11AM (#7177439)
Interesting. Maybe they just generate it for the active users. You mention it was a tst account, so I assume it's not that active and not a lot of content.
