Re:Anthropic's growth just flattened (really) on Monday November 02, 2026 @06:37PM (#50345786)
Everyone is really tightening usage now because of all the slopmaxers who burned millions of dollars of tokens and achieved nothing.
Re:Astra can read and write weights to improve Qwen on Monday November 02, 2026 @05:33PM (#50344963)
It would be really funny if it turns out every single openAI advancement just comes from cheating by learning the answers in advance.

Eg when they were caught stealing people’s maths research and then saying their model did it

Re:We halved DNS build delay and cut memory use by 85% on Monday November 02, 2026 @02:10PM (#50341982)
The source for Claude code leaked and it is total slop. They don’t even look at their own code.
Re:OccupySaaS on Monday November 02, 2026 @06:53AM (#50335639)
Does it count as clean room if you copy your employer’s product?
Re:Ask HN: What are you working on? (November 2026) on Sunday November 01, 2026 @04:23PM (#50330050)
There is already a site here where you say what your job is and garages submit their offers. They can also auto-submit offers if it’s something routine like a standard service.
If you aren’t allowed to advertise, how are you supposed to know what products are available?
Fined? You should be disbarred and prosecuted for this. If you’re willing to commit fraud for a minor case, imagine what you’d do for a billion dollars.
Maybe the answer to the Fermi paradox is that the universe is so big that you simply never get anywhere.

No message you send out ever gets far enough for anyone to see it. No ship you send out ever reaches another system. It’s just a big empty void.

You stay in your own lame system, browsing lame terrestrial memes and never escape.

That’s what they mean by 100% efficiency, whereas real generators can’t perfectly scale their fuel use with electricity usage.
Re:OpenAI raises less than half of $30B target on Saturday October 31, 2026 @03:00AM (#50313856)
There is nothing to indicate that they will achieve general intelligence. Their models have stagnated and are incapable of continuous learning, so the architecture is a dead end.

The mistake is assuming that science is linear. You could give me a trillion dollars, there’s still no guarantee I’ll invent cold fusion. You can’t predict or guarantee inventions.

I don’t believe in betting on single companies but I’d be more inclined to bet on Amazon and Google. Most AI deployments go through bedrock, and Google has their own cloud business and other businesses to make money. That means they can win regardless of who develops the next cool model.

Re:OpenAI raises less than half of $30B target on Saturday October 31, 2026 @02:50AM (#50313819)
They’re not a public company so the only people buying in are insiders and the rich.
Re:OpenAI raises less than half of $30B target on Saturday October 31, 2026 @02:47AM (#50313811)
They’re dead. As soon as people start getting fearful you’ll go to zero, they won’t have FOMO anymore. FOMO was the only reason people were investing.
Re:OpenAI raises less than half of $30B target on Saturday October 31, 2026 @02:44AM (#50313796)
If you exclude all of their costs like hardware, training, $10m/engineer salaries, dojos, CEO sex islands…
Re:Building an AI-native engineering org on Friday October 30, 2026 @05:46PM (#50310572)
Can we ban twitter links? I have to use a hack to even read it and it’s always just slop. If you can’t be bothered to write an actual article, why should we bother to read it.
Re:Building an AI-native engineering org on Friday October 30, 2026 @05:44PM (#50310558)
That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever read. Spaffing millions per month on this slop is the kind of thing people suffering from AI psychosis do. There is no way you need “thousands of agents” to build any product.

The more agents you throw at something, the more they collide. Those collisions generate more slop, which requires further slop processing agents.

They have chosen to run concentration camps and starve their own people for decades instead of becoming a rich country like South Korea. They can stop the sanctions whenever they want, by becoming a democracy.
Re:We ran AI agent swarms in Minecraft and Mindustry on Friday October 30, 2026 @09:02AM (#50303288)
They're running using full size models on external APIs so there's no chance of that. But you could always use a model to build and adapt little deterministic AIs.

Like take an existing NPC mod and then get it to improve how they work and direct those NPCs, rather than directly controlling a character with an LLM.

Re:Binance-hacker-1029 – $5.6B stolen from Binance on Friday October 30, 2026 @08:35AM (#50303059)
They absolutely are just printing free cash
Re:Binance-hacker-1029 – $5.6B stolen from Binance on Friday October 30, 2026 @08:34AM (#50303043)
Until someone robs you. I've seen teams of burglars target asian households around weddings, because they know that all the family gold will be in the house. Fastest way to lose 100k.
That is such an extreme and weird opinion
Re:We're releasing the weights of Mistral Large 4 on Thursday October 29, 2026 @02:38PM (#50293863)
That isn’t possible, training is non-deterministic.
Re:We're releasing the weights of Mistral Large 4 on Thursday October 29, 2026 @02:38PM (#50293856)
Even if they did that, you would have no way of verifying that the data they upload and the model they claim to have trained is the weights they have shared. It’s a nonsensical idea.

If you want a trusted public model, we need to start a foundation that does it. The Linux of AI.

You’re going to need some serious money though.

Re:We're releasing the weights of Mistral Large 4 on Thursday October 29, 2026 @02:34PM (#50293823)
Nobody is going to upload 1PB of data for you to download.
Re:We're releasing the weights of Mistral Large 4 on Thursday October 29, 2026 @02:33PM (#50293800)
That doesn’t sound right. The weights are incredibly valuable and expensive to train.
Re:We're releasing the weights of Mistral Large 4 on Thursday October 29, 2026 @02:27PM (#50293718)
We already had that world, the axis of evil stopped releasing open source models years ago. It’s only because of the Chinese that we kept getting them.
Re:If IPv4 Were Land on Thursday October 29, 2026 @08:46AM (#50288068)
I still think we should just extend the length of IPv4. In my proposed system, existing addresses would become a subnet of the new set.

Eg 192.168.0.1 becomes 0.0.0.0.192.168.0.1

And then we dish out all the new address space. You would get the network providers to handle address conversion until software and hardware has been updated. Because all the existing addresses are reserved in the new set, it doesn’t affect them.

Keeps all the nice parts of IPv4, doesn’t require everyone to switch to an entirely new system, backwards compatible with existing hardware/software. Problem solved.

Re:StackOverflow now gets fewer than 1000 questions a month on Thursday October 29, 2026 @05:12AM (#50286353)
It was a very flawed site. If you ever tried to ask a question they'd tell you to fuck off, but 99% of their threads were just empty with toxic comments from the mods. You'd find the perfect thread for your problem, and then it would just be locked as a dupe with no actual answer thread available.
Re:The Tragedy of Losing Your Wikipedia Page on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @06:19PM (#50281735)
I remember being in school and trying to update the school's page. Some greasy editor blocked it, because I didn't have a source. The source was the fact that I was physically inside the school. Not good enough for them, they left the wildly outdated article to rot instead.
Re:Why Is This Fingerprinting Script Creating Bioweapons? on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @03:00PM (#50279119)
Given the recent hacking based on browser fingerprint, we really need browser developers to shut this shit down. Why are you even able to silently run all of these commands on my computer and report back to the mothership?
Re:Gemini 4 Carbon on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @01:24PM (#50277239)
It's clear that all the labs have stagnated and have no idea where to go from here. All their results are basically equal now, they're benchmaxed to fuck and there are zero new architectures.
