Ask HN: Techniques for productive AI use in the workspace

Hey HN,Like so many other SWEs right now, I am trying to find ways to enhance my development experience without taking away from the quality of my work or the things I find enjoyable about software engineering, especially as one who very much enjoys the act of pulling something together using well crafted code.I have found (what I think at least) is a maximum of productivity and enjoyment by...

Late response, but I was not using a VPN nor do I have one installed on my system. I was also on my home (Verizon) internet.

They made a website to download plugins?

Re:Ask HN: Thoughts on hiring junior engineers in 2026? on Friday October 16, 2026 @10:19PM (#50127263)
A senior engineer would always be able to out engineer a junior engineer, the point of hiring junior engineers was always that you could pay them less than a senior and hopefully keep them on board with your company and develop into leadership or a more proficient engineer. In addition, newer employees end up bringing fresh perspectives and keep the company from eating itself while also being more malleable and likely to go along with what you think are best practices. I am still wrestling with the way that software engineering will work in the long term with AI, but I feel like the value proposition of hiring juniors hasn't really changed.

I don't know how much this applies to everyone else, but the ability to display images inline is really nice for notetaking. I cannot write properly, so org-mode (a notetaking tool that can export to a variety of formats) with embedded rendered latex equations makes it really easy to take notes and write things up in a plaintext format without needing to export every 30 seconds to view equations. The ability to embed code that can actually run is also very nice.

Me after prefixing every word with length greater than or equal to 7 characters with the n word in my article as a way to scare off people who would get set off from a little bit of language play. It's a way to make an online space free of people I don't want without putting up hard borders or moving it to a less public space. (Personally I think it's a wonderful strategy)

All the commenters here that are too set off to engage with the article are exactly what I was hoping for as an internet troll.

I mean, catholic priests do get taken every year in china by the government. Outside reporters do have very significant evidence of organ harvesting. You can say that you wont feel fear from the people in china, but that doesn't really change the truth.
Re:DeepSeek v4 on Saturday April 25, 2026 @02:52AM (#47899320)
Just like how they harvest the organs of people with a different religion. So progressive!!
Re:DeepSeek v4 on Saturday April 25, 2026 @02:51AM (#47899311)
In china they imprison priests for existing. And sure, they have the right to prefer that, but I can demonize them all I want. If you are the type of person to say the government, made up of people like you, should be able to tell you what to do without voting on if they should be in government at all you are foolish. There is one ethical form of government and it is democracy. Also, they regularly attempt to force their inferior ways onto others. Look at North Korea's obsession with South Korea. China's obsession with Taiwan. Russia's obsession with Ukraine (not really too much of a democracy there though o algo). There is no such thing as a country of that type having freedom to vote and freedom to speak because as soon as you give people those freedoms they choose a different system. It is no different than slavery.
Re:DeepSeek v4 on Saturday April 25, 2026 @02:36AM (#47899238)
And the Chinese are somehow better here? You need id to play video games for more than an hour.
Re:DeepSeek v4 on Saturday April 25, 2026 @12:25AM (#47898631)
We can talk about all this stuff on an American form, but good luck talking about any of China's issues on a Chinese Forum. Lets not talk about how China regularly kills Catholic priests and bishops. Anyone who tries to glaze China is a propagandized fool.
Re:DeepSeek v4 on Friday April 24, 2026 @10:40PM (#47898134)
Because a government has no power to tell the people what to do if the people did not vote for it to be there. There is no alternative.

I completely misunderstood the context of this discussion and revoke my mildly snarky comment. You are correct.
Re:To Protect and Swerve: NYPD Cop Has 547 Speeding Tickets on Thursday April 23, 2026 @05:45PM (#47882523)
They could arrest you, because probable cause, but you would not have to plead guilty, which is what paying a ticket is. If speeding was an arrestable offense, they could arrest you but unless they could prove beyond reasonable doubt that you were driving they should not find you guilty. Plus what other commenter said about you can not force some one to incriminate themselves.
Me looking for the soviet military bases rn

EDIT: I completely misunderstood the context here, nevermind.

You WILL get your state mandated 1 hour of exercise everyday and you will eat your state mandated five servings of vegetables. You will not go outside for more than an hour a day to prevent skin cancer. If you were born after 2010, you will eat the state mandated bug-based red meat replacement. You don't even need to stop eating meat, you just can't start.
Re:Smoking ban for people born after 2008 in the UK agreed on Tuesday April 21, 2026 @01:43PM (#47851995)
You vill get your state mandated 1 hour of exercise and 5 servings of vegetables. You VILL eat only the state mandated bug based protein that our studies have shown to be 10% less likely of causing heart attacks than red meat. YOU VILL NOT spend more than 1 hour outside to prevent skin cancer.
Re:Smoking ban for people born after 2008 in the UK agreed on Tuesday April 21, 2026 @01:32PM (#47851866)
We should ban scrolling social media for people born after a certain date and legally mandate an hour of exercise per day and eating 5 servings of vegetables. If you don't listen, one month in jail. The state has decided that since it pays for your healthcare, it will now tell you how to live your life.
Re:Smoking ban for people born after 2008 in the UK agreed on Tuesday April 21, 2026 @01:30PM (#47851846)
> Stop doing things that hurt you !! You need to live your life like a min-max optimization for max lifespan. !! You haven't done your government mandated hour of exercise today, enjoy 30 days in prison !!
Re:Smoking ban for people born after 2008 in the UK agreed on Tuesday April 21, 2026 @01:27PM (#47851813)
If I want to smoke in my own home I should be able to. Next up the government will ban reading hacker news for people born after 2012 because it incentivizes you sitting in your chair too much.
