They had a scientist saying the Arctic could be "ice-free" in the summer by 2013. The new forecast is for that to happen sometime mid-century.

As a non-native reader it seemed pretty clear to me as well. I guess knowing some French and having read a lot of fantasy novels helps.
Hey Amit! I remember you and your articles fondly from my RotMG days.

This was sadly deprecated on Android: https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/fenix/issues/12099

It was such a huge loss for me that for at least a year I used the outdated pre-Fenix. Now they still work on Desktop but they just stopped working on Android (althouth the bookmarks itself are synced-up)

Given the context, it's a bit ironic that you fail to spell "Colombians" correctly . I mostly agree with your assessment though. For most latinos it takes several years working full time in English to get to the level you mention.

Ask HN: How have you started recently using AI in your personal or work life?

Over the past months, while reading interesting stories on automated text and image generation, I've been feeling a small amount of FOMO about not yet taking advantage of any of it. I'm a Project Manager on software projects (mostly front and backend related) and feel that I could be improving my life or my team's but I'm wasting this opportunity. Any ideas that the community feels are worth...

I've spoken highly of the free(mium) Toshl on HN before. I've been using it for 4 years on my own but it seems they have a solid tutorial for household expenses: https://toshl.com/blog/track-family-household-expenses/

It's futile to ask for things to be removed from the lexicon. Language advances and those 16-year-olds will decide how they speak now and in the future.

I think this is already outdated but a fitting response to your comment could also be "ok boomer"

The customer review blurb on the site is the best I've seen: "... has nothing in common with a good service and especially a high seriousness" - AfD Lower Saxony

"I'm helping out with a curriculum to help slum kids to (web) program in Thailand in English, but in a way that they can learn English as well"

Is there somewhere one could read more about this? Sounds nifty.

How do you define "hacker"?
Re:Mozilla Is Dead on Thursday August 13, 2020 @09:07AM (#24142919)
Pointing out wrong "facts" that are used as arguments isn't relevant?
I seriously doubt that, I've lived in 3 of the countries (fairly large ones) where WhatsApp is THE communications and in all of those, at least to my knowledge, most (mostly young) people send money electronically through banks, sometimes more modern digital versions like Nubank in Brazil, but there's no all-encompassing default solution.
Venmo is irrelevant in (all?) most of the markets where Whatsapp is utterly dominating. In February it was reported that the platform has 2 billion active users.
I have been fined by the police at 4 AM for the exact same thing.
> Maybe strangulation if the user cooperates.

Clearly another untapped business opportunity.

That's how InDriver works, a fairly popular app in Latin America, originally created in Russia.

Could you explain a bit more about the atonal euphemism? Is this a common alternative to express a word in Mandarin?

Here's a bookmarklet you can add to your bookmark bar for translating to English:

  javascript:s=document.selection?document.selection.createRange().text:window.getSelection?window.getSelection().toString():document.getSelection?document.getSelection():%27%27;location.href=(s==%27%27)?%27http://translate.google.com/translate?u=%27+escape(location.href)+%27&sl=auto&tl=en%27:%27http://translate.google.com/translate_t?text=%27+s+%27&sl=auto&tl=en%27;

Verge picked up the story and Xiaomi subsequently fired the employee and apologized to Tarka: https://www.theverge.com/2019/6/18/18684417/xiaomi-ripoff-ar...
Android. iOS's firefox is Safari (like every browser on the iPhone) with a firefox overlay.
How is it math? It totally ignores that a movie star could be well known over many countries in the world. Considering Hollywoods reach, I wouldn't be surprised.
The term seems to include both "vegetarian" and "vegan".
I've been using the free version of Toshl for a couple of years and it ticks all your marks. Great UX too.

https://toshl.com

There are multiple reports of it working by simply spoofing your user agent to chrome https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/apu2u6/, which makes this even more worrying.

No mention of absolute risk?
Yes, it would be helpful for journalists to take a look at the concept of absolute vs relative risk: https://www.healthnewsreview.org/toolkit/tips-for-understand...
