Well, there is a bit more to it... basically, the phone is really simple and everyone knows how to use it.
It allows access to the microphone without tech support issues (adjust microphone volume, give browser permissions etc).
Beyond that, listening also allows you to just call into a phone number and listen to a show - without expending your mobile data allowance.
Yes, you can listen online without signing up.
It is similar to Twitch etc, but has features catering to audio streaming that you wont find on other platforms.
The goal is to make it easier for users to perform a site-wide "find".
You can easily disable it by using the checkbox on the bottom right of the overlay that appears; then cmd+f will behave similar to your browser's setup.
"So the fear-mongering about companies with huge losses driving the stock market is misplaced"
Um... no. It would be great if you would come back to this article in 2 years time and run the same analysis on the same companies. I suspect the statement above will be rather invalid.

true, but its good to hear the other side's perspective - it helps you assess how you can cater to them better.
In the UK, the recruitment agents run the IT tech recruitment industry. Very rarely do companies take on the process themselves (I mean proportionately it's quite low).
In the US, it's reverse.
What do you smoke, and can I have some?
this is pretty neat - something that would make it better is if you could 'sort' by various properties - i.e. sort by PR.
wow - this is actually amazing content. I think you should not have used such a link-bait title - I suspect people wont read because of it.
Seriously great content. Thank you!
I think $10 a month is fine. Those who value this service wont change their mind because of a few bucks.
Remember - people who will use this service will probably do it for business, they wont be teenagers, and a $10 will be nothing if the service provides any type of value at all.
Why would you want unicorns AND ponies? unicorns are superior to ponies; adding them both would just bloat the framework.
right but many companies try to take a shortcut - they think the best measure of skill is github.
To be fair, it's hard to qualify "skill", so shortcuts are very tempting.
correct. I should probably add "git push" to the instructions.
nice. Learning something new every day :)

I guess the part Im really keen to setup is the S3 + Hive/EMR part. But it sounds like it will be a bit too expensive to have up-to-date stats, and better to just do batch processing to run reports.
This sounds reallly interesting, but it feels very painful for reporting. Trying to run reports on this type of data for a dashboard seems out of the question.
I understand adhoc research is done via command line, but if you wanted to have a dashboard which shows stats, how would you handle that? I assume you would have to import into a db of some sort to run queries regularly?

I am in the process of setting up a new website, and was hoping to get some advice on how others store web traffic log data.At the moment I am thinking of just using Google Analytics and Mixpanel.I have no intention of saving apache access log files - so Im looking for a web based service.
I was considering rolling out a custom db table just to log hits, but it just feels wrong. What are you...
You do realise that mastication is REQUIRED for healthy teeth and gums right?
You may not become malnutritioned, but you will suffer from various oral problems due to lack of mastication. This may take a year or even a few years to present itself - by then it will be too late to react.
I wondered about this for years - because I do it all the time.
The answer finally came to me from trial and error of something else. This is caused by caffeine - usually from coffee. Engineers dring lots of coffee, so often suffer from this. It is a type of "jittering".
These are not "another job" candidates. These are A grade candidates who are not desparate enough to take any lame offer they get (unlike recent grads with little experience).
When someone in the valley says "there is a shortage of talent", what they really mean is... there is a shortage of "talent willing to work for a pathetic salary".
First it was an interesting article, but the last paragraph made it an amazing article.
Your sample size it way too small for the stats to be meaningful
Um... you just "reinvented" replication.
I worked in a company that did this, because of the slightly different business requirements they had regarding "publishing" on demand. Needless to say, it didnt end well.
Reinventing replication is usually a sign of poor application architecture; change the code, not the concept of replication.
