The sources in this article as so dubious. "ChicagoLand" Chicago chamber of commerce? A Tom's Hardware article from February of '26. Things have changed so much since February, it's not even funny to quote something so old. A bunch of the other articles are from 2025.
This is kind of desperate. The argument falls flat.
I've tried to switch to Duck Duck Go unsuccessfully three times since its inception.
This time I have had no problem switching. I'm using Duck for 99% of anything I search for and it's just fine.
The 1% of the time, if I'm really stuck on something I try google shopping or images and its usually no better.
I realized quickly that google search was giving me a very distorted view in its search results, it is making a lot of specific editorial decisions that I wasn't quite aware of, or had lots awareness of over time.
Duck.ai is pretty good too. It's been nice to be able to finally switch, and it'll be interesting to see what happens with duckduckgo now that they can truly see some sustained growth (I can't be alone in this experience).
A concern for me on this site is that they give the shell commands to edit the /etc/ssl file on their site, instead of just making the Apple link (which they also list) as authoritative on the matter. I don't think users should get in the habit of cut/pasting sudo enable shell one-liners from "random" websites, especially and specifically when the vendor has the very same commands in their published fixed for the issue. In short, this site should have just said "go get the fix from apple".
I took a flight inside Mexico (Mexico City to Oaxaca) recently and the in-flight service snack was bagged peanuts. I was so amused, it was almost shocking to see. And, good news, no one died, but I assume if it was on a plane in US there probably would've been a strong emotional reaction by at least one person. It's good to know that the "Airborne anaphylaxis" is not a thing.
I guess everyone in west palm beach is nuclear reactor specialist according to this tv station’s reporting.
If you're part of a particular subculture, like sailboat cruising, nearly all of international sailboat cruising takes place on Facebook. There are pages for every town, anchorage, marina, etc that you will encounter. Often that is paired with a WhatsApp group where people have conversations and coordinate activities. When you sail from city X to city Y, you join that Facebook group and you learn where to do laundry, where to get groceries, etc. You stay on these groups and the whole community interacts there for many years. There are other places this happens but Facebook is the main source of this type of information sharing.
Yes, it's badly broken. Try building an app, it's so inconsistent, I have no idea what the heck is going on. It seems like every place my app uses a keyboard it has a different look, different feel, different way to dismiss it, etc. What the AF.
I love astro, it's been such a pleasure to use and totally solved my need for a flexible platform. I managed to retire a bunch of Wordpress sites and I've never looked back. Hopefully I can still run it on netlify.
While I respect the author's opinion (and it's interesting that Vibe Coding, the term is less than a year old), I am more than happy to be an Anthropic customer, and actually happy that they've opened more capacity for their paying customers. What I'm achieving with Claude is spectacular and for now, it's the best system I've found to meet my goals.
Whenever I see "everyone", and broad statements that try to paint an entire geography based on one company "Microsoft" I'm suspect of the motives of the author at worst, or just dismissive of the premise at best.
I see what the author is saying here, but they're painting with an overly broad brush. The whole "San Francisco still thinks it can change the world" also is annoying.
I am from the Seattle area, so I do take it a bit personally, but this isn't exactly my experience here.
Occasionally, if you're lucky enough, an option to copy the phone number shows up, it seems like completely at the whim of the OS. And that's after accidentally starting to dial the number, of course.
Wow. What a run. Has there been another slow networking technology that's lasted for so long?
After years of granting free and discounted business accounts to qualified non-profits Microsoft has discontinued free accounts as of July 1st.

No wonder he idolizes Steve Jobs, another famous yeller.
You are exactly correct. I'm seeing this already as a relative of mine is exactly that, a small local accountant. He's struggling to inform the many small businesses that he supports. Most can barely use a computer, believe it or not. Some don't have smart phones. He's referring them to a service that is charging a couple of hundred bucks to do the filing.
I also run a small business, I had never heard of this. No one reached out to me, I was not notified in any way. For something that can threaten my freedom, it's a real shocker, the only way I heard about this is because this guy told me. Oh yeah, I also got some random text messages that seemed like spam, probably from one of these parasites trying to charge $300 to fill out a form.
You're absolutely right in your analysis.
smart enough to do all that, but not smart enough to spot the scam? LOL!
Why did the Supreme Court accept the case in the first place, it's a bit confusing. I guess they are signaling that they are willing to ban abortion drugs if a proper case comes up?
If you go, and aren't interested in a big party boat, there are a few organizations that offer canoe rides to their farm, including educational tours and lunch. Plus you get to paddle the canoes. We found one on air b and b experiences but I'm sure they advertise in other places as well.
Getting to the canals is a bit difficult if you don't use uber/did or a taxi. We did take an uber down, because the adventure started early, to beat the mid-day heat, but we did manage to take a bus/train on the way back, and only got lost twice.
it's possible that there might be a move to cheek swaps instead of urine tests for routine testing, making it possible to enjoy some recreational pot during off times.
I used this for taxes this year. It spotted three errors, fairly complex errors actually, and spit it back for me to fix. After the third submission, it was error free and my return was accepted. I found it pretty amazing that it caught all of that and so, so, so, happy I gave no money to the tax industrial complex for a change. The IRS should definitely continue this as a thing.
I too am similarly gifted. Back in the usenet days a group I was on received its first spam. There was some discussion about whether this type of thing would get out of control. I confidently proclaimed that there was no way spam would ever be more than a minor nuisance.
That's so amazing. That Sun sparc 10 was a beast of a machine. I had one running until 2020. It was seemingly unstoppable. It broke my heart to send it off to recycling, it's weird being emotional about a computer. It had been serving web pages (on-and-off) since 1997.
This was a funny era. A few years later (early 2000s), I somehow got sent to the Microsoft developer conference because I was the closest,
geographically. There were so many sessions focused on open source and inter working with Linux. It was shocking that Microsoft had so quickly embraced this world.
Then in the closing keynote, Gates spoke passionately about how Microsoft would eradicate Linux and crush open source. It was hilarious how out of touch the left hand was from the right hand.
I also made a bit of a splash because I came to the conference with a MacBook. A journalist even wanted to interview me because it was so unusual. I declined.
The best part of the conference was the passes to company store, buying a lot of shwag for dirt cheap and a bunch of OS licenses, which they practically gave away in the store (to run in Parallels of course) lol.
You may be joking but this is why we thought Cisco bought Webex back in the day too.
iFixit is so fantastic. For any of their flaws or shortcomings, they are really trying to grow and improve on a regular basis. They have helped my family save so much stuff from the scrap heap.
These are the types of actions that help the ethos of "REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE".
But it comes at the cost of capitalism and pure profit making. There's going to have to be a hard reckoning sometime soon that we can't keep just throwing stuff away (and paying again and again), just so the stock market keeps moving up.
