Re:Google Calendar Is Down on Tuesday June 18, 2019 @11:13AM (#20213984)
I'll add that Microsoft Outlook calendar works really well. or $69/year, Microsoft will sell you an Office 365 account, Outlook email and calendar, all their apps on-line, two desktop-installable licenses for their Office Suite, and 1 TB of OneDrive storage. It's a great deal.
Re:Mazda is purging touchscreens from its vehicles on Monday June 17, 2019 @11:58AM (#20204270)
It's good strategy, too. Now the other manufacturers are at a disadvantage because people can claim that the cars are "defective" by having touch screens.

I think a touch screen would be OK if it didn't operate while the car was in Drive, so you can set preferences, etc, with a full keyboard. But you can also do this from a companion app or website, so there's really no need to have it at all.

And I'm really glad to see HUDs come to cars. I wonder why it took so long!

Because Elizabeth Holmes never blinked!

I wish Hacker News didn't use it. It's a PITA logging in! I don't see it when I'm in the U.S. but when I'm overseas...
Does it matter why people donated and/or became more aware of the disease?

Exactly. The "French Way" thing is an affect that's frequently mocked on other forums, see https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/le
Re:Twitter is rejecting posts containing JSFiddle URLs on Friday June 07, 2019 @12:31PM (#20126273)
I saw one of those fake Elon Musk posts in my stream and my first thought was "Wow! Is Elon pushing shady blockchain money things now?" It wasn't until a few seconds later that I realized there was no blue-check and it wasn't him....
This turned out not to be quite true!
Re:Inventors killed by their own inventions on Thursday June 06, 2019 @12:55PM (#20116405)
There's also this Segway incident, though he was a company executive and not an "inventor"

Good! I love my cats and their claws.

Do you let your child decide if he should brush his teeth?
Re:Cat Declawing Is Banned by New York State Lawmakers on Wednesday June 05, 2019 @01:16AM (#20101677)
Sorry. It is a requirement for a male Jew. No other "method" is acceptable. For non-Jews, there's rarely a reason for it.

Any Jew who doesn't circumcise is operating outside the context of Judaism, and is doing something very non-Jewish.

Re:An update on last week's customer shutdown incident on Tuesday June 04, 2019 @08:29PM (#20100498)
I don't like the weaselly passive voice. And it's still not clear if a person who doesn't have the clout on social media can get attention.
Re:An update on Sunday’s service disruption on Tuesday June 04, 2019 @11:29AM (#20095916)
Yeah, but this is largely moot now that monitors have "native resolutions" with fixed numbers of pixels.
Re:New Mac Pro on Monday June 03, 2019 @04:23PM (#20088172)
The color graders here run 10-bit/color HDR monitors that have a wide gamut. Apple doesn't have monitors that support this. (The new one _might_ do the trick; we'll see.) Everyone here doing professional color work is on PCs supplied by Thinkmate. This is standard in Hollywood, too.
