Re:The SEC Should Block Anthropic's IPO to Protect the Public on Monday November 02, 2026 @11:12PM (#50347970)
Why does this matter?

Just distill their models completely. They have no moral high-ground at all there.

What I find legitimately insane about all that is that Anthropic obviously does not have these censorship restrictions internally. So it's like.. They're just the whole world's adversary now?
How is this at all scientifically revealing or interesting? The paper says he developed structural heart failure with several confirmational lab findings then died doing a stress test of his heart basically? Like... yeah? That's what would happen in a 76 year old. ????

Idk if I like that line. If you made no mistakes then you chalk-up your loss to bad luck and are not really demotivated so much. You know you did your best nothing to regret so you can easily keep going. When you keep making mistakes and losing because of those it becomes far more demotivating and that's WAY more likely a scenario than the other.
> There will never be this research There is a massive profit and political incentive driving this research. It isn’t finding any signals as clear as the real doctors.

What? What are you even talking about? There's no way to control for exposures to hundreds of thousands of new chemicals in our environment and foods. LITERALLY NO WAY TO CONTROL. Did you know air pollution contributes?

What real doctors are you talking about? You are going up some branch where it's not even misaligned with what I'm talking about you just clearly aren't deep in this subject at all.

"> There's way too much shit in our environment

Sure. And it’s probably harmful. But it doesn’t cause everything.

Cigarettes cause cancer. Cigarettes are bad. That doesn’t mean the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs was caused by cigarettes, and anyone saying that makes no sense is a tobacco shill."

Okay The Plant Slant.

"> our resilience is suffering

Suffering resilience is a weird way to describe allergies."

1.) Not talking about just allergies here 2.) You clearly do not know much about allergies. Do you know anything about the gut microbiome or intestinal lining and how things in our environment, medications, and in our foods contributes to affecting it and those associations with the development and alteration of allergies?

Waiting eagerly for your reply where you just copy-pasted my reply to an LLM to get a synopsis and add your own personal snark to it.

Re:Any HN folks with undiagnosed diseases? on Friday October 30, 2026 @12:56AM (#50299999)
Not well that's for sure. Constant stress. My mental state is nothing like other people my age (mid 30s)

Any HN folks with undiagnosed diseases?

I've been suffering from a condition since around 2014 perhaps longer, that seemingly started after taking antibiotics (ciprofloxacin, Rocephin, Fosfomycin) where my body just loses tolerance to everything I continually ingest. What that looks like is something like an allergy, but my IgE testing on foods is all normal. For years doctors told me I was having panic attacks when I ate which...

There will never be this research. Meanwhile, complex disease states for which there is zero cure explode in incidence. Side behind "the science" all you want but it's just foolish coping IMO. There's way too much shit in our environment and in what we are exposed to and/or consume that we did not evolve to tolerate so it's no surprise our resilience is suffering and will continue to suffer in upcoming generations.
U.S. is runaway corruption

So it's not really a surprise our food and drink quality and safety would suffer alongside that

It's probably going to get worse

Yeah major doubt

Maybe in 10 years when frontier-level models are easily usable and not locked down by the government and PVP between the companies and everyone else to justify their existence and take all the resources from everyone.

Maybe then it'll accelerate development.

Every single manager and company wants to fire you over AI
"The ruling said training on books is fair use."

Like when people bring this up as if it's somehow just like acceptable.

It's not at all. That's utter bullshit. The people that run the courts have been bought out. They have no idea what the far-reaching consequences of this is.

1.) predators asking how-to 2.) wanna-be serial killers or other types like that asking how-to 3.) asking for info related to state secrets
How'd you do that?
Re:The EPA Is Quietly Killing Its Web Archive on Monday October 26, 2026 @04:17PM (#50250287)
Why are companies allowed to remove themselves from the web archive?

They shouldn't be.

Re:No Signs of AI Payoff Outside the Tech Sector on Saturday October 24, 2026 @04:47PM (#50225081)
test suites cover nowhere near enough to assure reliability

and if they did for your system, then it's so simple that whether or not you used AI doesn't even really matter

except LLM generated writing and art is basically instantaneously distinguishable because of the nature of how it works? even LLM code is as well?

You just fly in from astroturfer kookoo town or what?

how so?
Yes you're replying to astroturfers or AI psychosis victims.
IDK why this is relevant to the topic at hand.

Everyone in advanced math research understands the topics they are reading about deeply.

This person is just literally being victimized by the AI incompetence apocalypse.

Information overload + trained laziness.

because the tools can't? Lol. That's not how it works. Am I in the twilight zone?

All this anthropomorphism of literal statistical text generators.

Yes they exhibit generated sentences of text that describe coherent responses about a topic when there's an inordinate amount of research material in the training data from which they are distilling sentences of sound and rational thought. That's the ONLY way it can possibly work. There are so many scenarios where the training data isn't setup like that and low and behold the generated responses are just literal garbage.

Re:AI Can Write the Code. Who Verifies It? on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @03:25AM (#50162501)
I mean...

"Strict rules" does so much heavy-lifting in what you said that it basically decides whether it applies to any reasonable complex system or is pointless and just worked on your constrained system and wouldn't translate to much else that isn't like directly related or analogous.

Re:AI Can Write the Code. Who Verifies It? on Monday October 19, 2026 @06:12PM (#50158761)
"If you design a modular system and generate code under strict rules, no one needs to know any of those things. We only need to understand the design and the results."

Doubt!

Sounds like utter bull-crap!

Re:AI Can Write the Code. Who Verifies It? on Monday October 19, 2026 @03:12PM (#50156652)
You can make skills files all you want and have testing agents that evidently reduce need for revisions post deployment but it's not 100% and the more you don't understand what's going on because you didn't write it, the more complex the system is, especially if it's not all testable in a way that reduces risk, and especially in a security-relevant system or one that could have consequences to people the worse all of that is.
Re:"I'm Not Going to Have Blood on My Hands" on Saturday October 17, 2026 @07:19PM (#50136087)
why is it legal? why is it being marketed on kids applications?

morality is completely out the window

Re:AI Can Write the Code. Who Verifies It? on Saturday October 17, 2026 @03:57PM (#50134508)
it's bull-crap

Guard-rails are totally ineffective

Who wants to interact with AI customer service? I certainly do not. Why are we losing CS workers to AI? Because the companies are evil capitalists that do not give a fuck
Nothing to do with that

Company stock value goes up when they lay off staff. Next quarter shareholder maximization is the goal. AI and layoffs is the strategy to get there.

Not interesting unless completely open and locally sourcable. Until then it is automatically assumed to be nefarious toward the consumer.
