It's possible/likely that if such a safeguard is implemented, the self-driving systems would be unusable as it'd trip the safeguard either way too frequently or at unacceptable times.
Because it's got a nice, clean UI with interesting ideas?

It's not a bad platform, save for the lack of apps.

The numbers probably aren't accurate for big coastal cities, but when you take all of the States into account, it isn't inconceivable.

That series was also pretty long, and went to a lot more cities.

Any word on why it's taking manufacturers so long to get Haswell-based devices out?
Re:Apple Developer System Status on Thursday July 25, 2013 @12:49AM (#6100976)
Also, developers are told that they should not install iOS 7 on a mission critical device, and should only use it on a development device.

Forums were down since yesterday for at least 24 hours as well.
TDK was mentioned for a having a villain that gets caught on purpose. I think TDK did it well, but doesn't change the fact that so many are applying it like a formula and failing.

The page is meant to track consumer services.

I got XCode 5 but none of the documentation installed. :(

But how do you determine what data would be considered relevant? It is possible for incriminating data to hide in plain sight, such as in an image file that looks like a picture of your girlfriend's booty.

That very adorable kitten is way too distracting, and made it very hard to focus on the article.
I never noticed that setting it at 70 degrees is done on purpose. I have always noticed and commented on the fact that Apple has paid immense attention to the simple experience of adjusting the screen. It's always so effortless, and never too tight or loose.

Before the iPhone, the smartphone was still a very niche device though. The closest thing to mainstream is the BlackBerry, but it was mostly used for texting and email. There was already a marketplace, but the user experience was horrible. The web was barely usable. Thing is, everything has been in that state for quite a while. The smartphone market had a chance to evolve, but it wasn't really going anywhere.
Re:Announcing Hipmunk's $15M Series B Funding on Wednesday June 13, 2012 @03:08PM (#4107826)
Are you sure? I originally thought the same thing but Hipmunk simply includes all the taxes and fees in the price they display, so it almost always ends up the same for me when checking out.
Just a hypothesis, but is this because users are committing in groups of 3? I bet no-shows would increase if you paired groups of 2 or 1.
Charging for the app will work for the DIY hacker types, but it'll be hard for other services to convince their users to purchase your app.
Re:Apple releases Ipad 3 on Wednesday March 07, 2012 @08:38PM (#3678229)
I don't think in-network calls cost them much of anything. It's the connection charges to a different network that may actually cost them money.

Or you could just use the dash or period as delimiters.

I still prefer to not have spaces in file names. I then don't need to use quotes or escape spaces when typing the file name in the shell.
Re:HTML5 version of Clear iOS app on Tuesday February 21, 2012 @08:05PM (#3618814)
Very nice. The only problem I have is the choice of the pinch gesture to go back. This completely ruins using the app with one hand.
That's the wrong mindset to have, IMO. Just because the incumbent sysadmins have gotten used to the eccentricities of Apache doesn't mean having something easier to configure is not necessary. This is similar to what people said when the iPhone was announced.
You're implementation still feels like a slight twist on what we've seen before. You list criteria which are used as filters, and you either show interest or don't. OKCupid is pretty much the same thing. Sure, you take away the profile filling, and uploading photos part, but it's still the same thing, but slightly different. Thing is, after a match is found, you don't solve the "well shit, what do I do now?" problem. You're back to awkward and possibly creepy part of messaging and setting something up.

I remember seeing a very interesting idea for a dating website a while ago on HN, where you're matched based on activities/events you're interested in going to. I really liked the idea, as it matches based on interests, and it automatically answers the what-are-we-going-to-do question.

Re:Apple announces Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion on Thursday February 16, 2012 @12:31PM (#3599706)
Looking at Apple's page, it seems like it doesn't only mirror output of apps such as Quicktime, but is able to do desktop mirroring, so you can play videos in VLC and mirror the entire screen.
Re:Show HN: Our first iPhone app, built entirely in JavaScript on Tuesday February 14, 2012 @08:21PM (#3592573)
A friend recommended your app to me a few days back, and here's my impressions.

At first glance, the UI looks great, but it doesn't feel right. The big one for me was how I must start a swipe from the picture of the event, not the edge of the screen or the bottom portion with the profile pictures. The UI looks and acts almost like a scroll view, but not really.

Going into an event's View Details view, there are items in a table I can tap to view more details, such as See Full Description. Native iOS behavior is tapping will drill down immediately, and things can load slower if needed. It seems like there's a bit of a delay between a tap (when the table item flashes) and when the drill down happens. This time varies seemingly randomly, and can be up to a few seconds. It makes me wonder if the tap actually registered, even if it does flash.

The idea for the app is great, but I stopped using the app at that point because it's frustrating to have to change habits formed from using pretty much all the other apps on iOS. It's something to consider when thinking about using some non-native framework, especially for something like iOS where apps generally follow a set of human interface guidelines, as any difference in behavior can stand out like a sore thumb to users.

Is this something that you guys noticed or thought about internally during development?

Re:Samsung exec: Apple’s ‘iTV’ is nothing to worry about on Tuesday February 14, 2012 @05:00PM (#3591980)
I think you're definitely stretching it a little. It's like saying "Did Apple disrupt the smartphone industry in any meaningful way? You could email and run apps on smartphones before."

Maybe they didn't change the industry as much, but purchasing content and getting it onto devices definitely was not as accessible before for the general public.

Re:This is what 864GB of RAM looks like now on Friday January 27, 2012 @09:59PM (#3521189)
I'd love to hear how Reddit is doing it wrong and can be improved. As far as I can tell, they want users to see the freshest content possible (latest comments, up/down vote counts, etc.). Is it really that easy?
Re:Sony sued over PSN "can't sue us" clause on Tuesday December 20, 2011 @09:35PM (#3376152)
I know this is fine when everyone is being moral/rational. But what prevents someone from maliciously suing the skating (or something more dangerous, such as skydiving) place for something they weren't really responsible for?
Re:Sony sued over PSN "can't sue us" clause on Tuesday December 20, 2011 @09:32PM (#3376144)
If that is the case, any business that provides any activity that is remotely dangerous would not be able to stay in business without the huge overhead of a powerful legal team backing it. Consider skydiving, watersports, or even karting.
