Re:Show HN: I over engineered changing Azure tags? on Wednesday October 01, 2025 @03:50PM (#45442503)
I had the idea to make a service for fixing tags in Azure. It started with me making a bash script to fix tens of thousands of resources in a large Azure tenant. I was not great at Azure or programming so it took me weeks before I was able to fix all edge cases, make it performant enough to "only" spend a few hours per subscription and log everything I wanted it to log.

This has stuck with me as perhaps someone others would want to do easier, and since I like making things, but needed some motivation to get more into programming I used this as a starting point to make it into a webapp with extra niceties such as scheduling for pro users.

I have the ,perhaps crazy expectation, that perhaps someone wants to use and pay for this, but if not it was very fun and a great learning experience.

Right now you can go trough with the pro purchase and use 42 for every number since it points to a stripe sandbox instead of live.

Technologies involved: Alma Linux, Podman, Python, postgresql, flask, LLMs ( Mostly Claude Sonnet 4.0)

I realize it might be a hard pass for many that you have to subscribe with email, and add your cloud credentials to my database, but all I can do is promise I am not doing anything nefarious. Your passwords are hashed and salted, and your passwords are used to encrypt your cloud credentials so unless I did something wrong even I as the super admin should by design, not be able to read anything other than your email. If you do test it out I will respond to any questions and criticism as best I can.

Re:Scripts for Btrfs Maintenance on Wednesday June 07, 2023 @09:01AM (#36226258)
I have happily used BTRFS in Raid1 on my Plex server for a good while now. I originally had a chucked WD 8TB drive. I started dreading to rebuild my library if the drive failed. So I got a 8TB Seagate disk and created a Raid-1 setup with one drive missing. I then copied over the data and added the old disk to the new raid. It took a good while to balance itself but it's been problemfree since. I might use ZFS if I switch to Ubuntu for home server, but I am using Fedora now, and want to stick to what is natively supported.
Well. Last time i played I finally had my first flight. It’s been possible for a while now to visit different planets, space stations and so on. But I have not tried before now. They have focused a lot on details and realism. When I opened the ramp to my ship and walked in it felt like i was there. I walked through the door to the cockpit and entered the pilot seat. Then I powered up the ship. A voice spoke and informed me the ship was online and a flurry of hud elements gave me a disorienting amount of information about fuel, elevation, ammo, comm channels and so on. After fiddling for a while I figured out how to ask for launch permission and clumsily took off. I barely managed to float up and out of the spaceport hangar I was in. You have supreme control of your ship and can rotate and tilt any which way. After getting used to the controls I used the star map to select a destination and began the quantum jump. It takes several minutes to to this. When I arrived I was on the wrong side of the planet, and so I had to do a second smaller jump to correct this. The view was something else. You really feel like you are floating far above a planet. I then got out of the pilot seat, opened one of ships bay doors and just stood there looking down on the planet below me. After a while I flew down looking for a landing place. I could not find it so I landed on a high rise building and left the ship. I then got stuck and had to kill myself to get sent back to my starting point.
