Amazing how someone with your experience can have such poor reading comprehension. He never said anything about permission to use llms. They are saying that to a domain expert like you, you can effectively use LLMs because you will be more likely to spot issues and thus guide it better given your background in the domain. He is saying that some biz bro who know nothing about docusign and esigning who decides one day to use LLMs to create software in that domain is likely to produce working, but buggy and non-compliant software.

As a non expert in a domain, LLMs can seem amazing because you don’t know the field therefore have a harder time spotting errors. As an expert they seem pretty dumb or they’re useful as long as you guide them. It’s akin to Cory Doctorow’s argument about the reverse centaur.

Doesn’t make sense to pay anymore. Ask any LLM to give you a list of FAANG questions asked recently. Then ask “can you restate question number X”. Premium problems locked behind paywall? Just ask it to restate the question and it will.

I didn’t know this until recently either. I grew up on a family where if there was pain, you just take tylenol to deal with it. We always followed the dosage timing and never had issues. So recently when my wife had some chronic pain I suggested taking tylenol but even after two days the pain would not go away and she went to ER. They did a blood check to see if they could find anything. They didn’t find the cause, just suspected food poisoning, but they found her liver enzymes were near dangerous levels. This was even with timing the dosages absed on instructions. Now I am super careful wtih Tylenol.
I just having this feeling that these guardrails are there not because it’s super advanced world ending AI. They are there to stop it from doing stupid shit.
> Because it can also happen that CEO/customer will want shiny thing you will deliver the shiny thing and he will have no clue why did you do that, because he forgot that he wanted that - the task has rot away.

Hate this. My boss: “Hey, why is it doing that. Who did this?” You did, you clueless idiot. You asked for it.

Re:AI is not a coworker, it's an exoskeleton on Friday February 20, 2026 @05:17PM (#47094796)
Sometimes I seriously am flabbergasted at how many just take what CEOs say at face value. Like, the thought that CEOs need to hype and sell what they’re selling never enters their minds.
Re:My AI Adoption Journey on Thursday February 05, 2026 @06:45PM (#46907094)
Is there any reason to use Claude Code specifically over Codex or Gemini? I’ve found the both Codex and Gemini similar in results, but I never tried Claude because of I keep hearing usage runs out so fast on pro plans and there’s no free trial for the CLI.
Re:Has the cost of building software just dropped 90%? on Tuesday December 09, 2025 @10:55AM (#46206330)
Feeling the same. I’m guessing the folks getting good results are literally writing extremely detailed pseudocode by hand?! Like:

Write a class Person who has members (int) age, (string) first name, (string) last name…

But if you can write that detailed…don’t you know the code you want to write and how you should write it? Writing plain pseudo code feels more verbose.

Re:Open Social on Saturday September 27, 2025 @12:21AM (#45393185)
What happened to Solid Pod? Tim Berners Lee’s project? I feel like it’s another project of this type, and even predates AT, but ever since its announcement hasn’t made much waves.
> I mean, with GUI frameworks it's pretty obvious MS is placing all their chips on WinUI3, even though they are not deprecating any legacy framework.

WinUI3 is dead, lol. I tried to migrate from UWP to WinUI3, but it is literally dead. There doesn’t seem to be any team at MS actively working on it, the community calls have died, and the last build conf didn’t have any WinUI3 talks, all AI stuff. Yes, you can build apps with WinUI3, but development and support for it has stalled and I couldn’t justify moving the companies product over to WinUI3.

> I’m a bit of a leftie, but it has been really painful for the last 10 years watching my side be the one that is actively racist and proposing systematic racism & sexism with a bare face.

Examples?

> We should be mindful that inside each of us is a significant amount of value, and under the right circumstances that can be unlocked to be great- despite any political or physiological differences.

Wouldn’t that be wonderful? But in the meantime, while we wait for the racists and sexists to become enlightened, should we not have initiatives, laws, education, to protect those who have historically been underrepresented and/or discriminated against?

Re:Writing a good design document on Sunday August 03, 2025 @06:31PM (#44780396)
I don’t blame people for doing so. That’s what they have been told by recruiters to do to increase their chance of their resume not being thrown into the trash or be invisible. If there is someone to blame for this, it’s the recruiting industry.
Re:The Prompt Engineering Playbook for Programmers on Wednesday June 04, 2025 @10:05PM (#44187644)
Yeah I don’t get it. By the time I’m done writing all these prompts to get what I want, refining over and over not to mention the waiting time for the characters to appear on the screen, I could have written what I want myself. I find LLMs more useful as a quick documentation search and for the most basic refactoring and template building.
Really? I just get garbage. Both Claude and CoPilot kept insisting that it was ok to use react hooks outside of function components. There have been many other situations where it gave me some code and even after refining the prompt it just gave me wrong or non working code. I’m not expecting perfection, but at least don’t waste my time with hallucinations or just flat out stuff that doesn’t work.
My understanding is that incognito mode just doesn’t save local browser history. Your ISP and google can still log what you search based on IP or login state.
Don’t worry guys AI will solve all the healthcare! /s

A majority don’t deny that it’s good. The problem is that so many think it is actually reasoning, believing the answers can be trusted.

Re:Ask HN: What non-AI products are you working on? on Tuesday March 26, 2024 @05:29PM (#39833091)
Been working on a fishing journal app. Pulls in weather, tides (salt), USGS streamflows (streams), add access points, save notes, make journal entries with catch log, and photo/videos.

Was ok until they locked screen share recording behind office 365 settings. Haven’t been able to get it to work despite all the settings being correct.
Yeah, not a fan of Harris' videos at all. He defines journalism...differently.

Is there something wrong with Mtn. Dew specifically or do you think all soda drinks are filth?
Re:Ray-Ban Meta next generation of smart glasses on Thursday September 28, 2023 @12:01AM (#37685102)
Hm, might be useful when capturing fishing videos. Instead of strapping a gopro or insta 360 to your body, just wear these and you get the added plus of polarized glasses. The video doesn't seem to have any stabilization yet though, so maybe a few generations later would be better.

> "ha ha AI like crypto amirite?"

I don’t think that was the meaning at all. I think the image was supposed to convey how the crypto grifters and con artists were veering into AI to run scams under the guise of AI.

I had to do a double check to see if I was actually reading an Onion article.
Re:Domain Names as Handles in Bluesky on Monday March 06, 2023 @09:54PM (#35050974)
What’s the difference between blue sky’s at protocol and the SOLID POD project? They both seem to do the same thing, but AT protocol is narrower in that its more focused on storing social media related data.
> The only solution I can see is absolute carnage in the housing market, and probably the entire financial system failing. And I'm kind of rooting for that, even though I own a home and financial assets: I have children, and I'd like for them to not be in perpetual two-earners + debt slavery in order to afford what their grand parents were able to afford on one salary.

Exactly my thoughts as well and I am in the same situation too (homeowner + kids). I don't want it to happen given the probable turmoil and violence that will come along with it, but at this point I feel like it's the only thing that will bring change.
