Nope, to be senior you have to be doing it as a job for a few years. Programming alone is several league different from working with a team. And lastly to be good at something you have to actively practice (build stuff), not just read, read, read whatever ressources you use.

Don't have one, don't feel the need for one.

Ask HN: How high or low are my chances at getting a remote job after a bootcamp?

Right now I'm in the EU, but eventually around January I will have to go back to my home third world country. Took this as an opportunity to switch career. With all this covid19 stuff, remote work is going strong, so I joined a programming Bootcamp (CS basics and back-end web specialization with Node.js/PHP or Java) to prepare myself better for a programming job. I have always "programmed"...

Ask HN: What are the best textbooks to study in order to learn math for ML?

So I never really found a practical use for mathematics while I was in school, so I never really paid attention to it, basically just studied for grades. Now that I have some interest in ML, I have come to realize that I suck at math. Help me fix that, my ultimate goal being the ability to work through Bishop's Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning or being able to understand ML papers. I...

I'm an accountant. Have been programming for years, paid college by hacking games and selling bots. Covid19 quarantine gave me the time to dive back in and actually relearning programming correctly, and rekindled my passion for it. It's actually harder to find a remote job because if I work full time for someone else I will not settle for 500 and probably will not accept anything paying less that my job now.
Thanks for the input. Congrats on your site by the way.

Ask HN: One person SaaS founder, any tips for someone wanting to get in?

Hey everyone. So because of some personal problems, I have to go back to my home country in the next 6 months probably (third world country). I want take this as an opportunity to create my own online business (if I can not find a remote job that pays well), no idea in what yet, just starting to brainstorm. But because I'm really new to this, I'm looking for your experiences and tips to...

Re:Ask HN: Why Is Linux Better? on Tuesday July 07, 2020 @06:21PM (#23764818)
It is not, it depends on what you do, what problem you want to solve and so on. You noticed it yourself, for example for game dev windows is just plain better. These OS fights on which one is better are just nonsense.

Ask HN: Self-hosting websites? Good or bad idea?

So I have some Saas idea I want to test out. But I don't want, nor have money to host them on a VPS or something for now. So I thought about about hosting them at home as I have an old DELL Optiplex laying around. My internet is fiber 1gb down/500mb up. What are the downside? For those who has done it, any tips? Are you satisfied?

As an European, this question doesn't even deserved to be asked, of course it should. Not just higher education, but at all level. More educated population is always better for any country, so education should be accessible for anyone and not hidden behind paywalls. Education and Healthcare should be where most of the tax money goes.

Ask HN: What's the best books to learn to program in 2020?

My goal? None particularly, just for knowledge/fun and this year I decided on programming and maybe getting deeper in computer science if it goes well. I'm not looking to build something meaningful right away, I'm interested in the craft, the art and all techniques a beginner can get. My math is rusty AF. Need to work on that also, already have some books to use as refresher. I'm an accountant...
