This is shortly after launch while the satellites are still tumbling. Within a few days they align themselves so that their sunshields reduce their brightness and over the next few months they will raise them selves to their operational orbit.

No one lives in a place where they can see starlink satellites with their naked eye once they are in operational orbit.

That's not true at all, in many cases markets exist in spite of nation states (think silk road and every other black market).

Re:Did Google Cripple Edge’s YouTube Performance?
on Wednesday December 19, 2018 @07:22PM (#18721365)
For me, Edge is the only browser that behaves properly when a Youtube video is playing but is not in focus with hardware acceleration on (the exact scenario is I have a game on my main monitor with a Youtube video playing on my other monitor). Both Chrome and Firefox stop loading the video and show the spinning buffering symbol after a few minutes. All three browsers work fine with hardware acceleration off.

"Founders Fund in a statement said it has been briefed on the relationship between SpaceX and the Boring Co. “and we have no concerns whatsoever."

Re:Rocket Launch in New Zealand Brings Quick, Cheap Space Access
on Sunday November 11, 2018 @05:24PM (#18429045)
Things placed in low earth orbit (where small launchers can put satellites) will de-orbit and burn up in 2-5 years from drag if they have no way to maintain their altitude. This isn't a problem future generations have to worry about. Geostationary orbit is a place where stuff can stay for thousands of years, so space junk build up could be a problem out there.
