News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

This is absolute mind boggling tech. I didn't read the whole article but just wanted to know if glasses are a necessity of the tech or it can be just earphones or a strap around your neck or anything that can serve the same purpose

I don't need glasses and I would never use them, so if there is any other way this can be done there you would have many options for the same result

Re:Radiation Map of the World on Monday November 02, 2026 @09:28AM (#50337279)
There is plenty of uranium in Venezuela and I don't see a single dot in the map
If you definitely need to connect them to the internet, make them read only?

I was talking yesterday to my AI imaginary friend about creating an MCP for one of my apps, and the first thing she told me was to make everything read only. No matter how many security layers you have in place, passwords, auth libs, whatever, it will be leaked/hacked so you better be prepared for minimum damage

Monitor your freezers temperature? yes, but never allow their thermostat to be set over the internet. I hope the lesson is learned. Applies to all appliances

Re:The AI cost of JavaScript frameworks on Monday November 02, 2026 @08:27AM (#50336549)
Express, EJS and PostgreSQL have never failed me, and AI knows them extremely well

Oh btw, there is nothing, and I really mean it, nothing in the Node world faster than that

Re:Ask HN: Which TV do you recommend for privacy? on Monday November 02, 2026 @08:25AM (#50336513)
There is a huge need and somebody has to deliver

I think Sony/Apple/Huawei/whoevergotballs needs to make a full TV with screen, really expensive, not a set-top box, and for the love of god make it zero ads, zero profiling, and zero camera/mic on by default, allow it to install apps and make it fully customizable. There is plenty of people with money that would pay big bucks for a TV like that

We are all fed up of all this invasive, privacy breaching, ad targeting scheme, and the first one to crack that nut will reap it dearly

Re:HackerTube: YouTube built from videos recommended by HN on Monday November 02, 2026 @08:10AM (#50336370)
It desperately needs a sort order by most recent also filtered by last 24 hours, week, month or year

Tech content gets outdated pretty fast

Re:We Took over ChatGPT Accounts on Saturday October 31, 2026 @11:08AM (#50316856)
$5000 is a joke. They pay millions to their top devs and still have more holes than a colander so a nice guy shows you a huge opening in your platform and all you can give him is a pat on the shoulder? Did you fire your top devs and hire that guy for a million bucks plus options? Did you sue the security firm you paid millions to audit the issues?

I really hope they get hacked and crash down burning in flames like the Hindenburg

Re:The $6.3B Binance Hack Was Pulled Off in Just 20 Minutes on Friday October 30, 2026 @10:49AM (#50304773)
The value crypto does bring to the world is this:

The unbanked, like myself. People that for any reason is being locked out of the "american" way of doing things

Stripe doesn't cover 200 countries, nor does Apple Pay, Google Pay, Paypal, Visa, etc (all american btw). So a parallel banking system is needed, no questions about that, and Binance provides the best of all, and that's why it's being targeted by we know who (just follow the money)

Now, whether if it is crypto or not, I don't care, all I want is the possibility to pay and receive money (USD, EUR or CNY as the top currencies right now) without the draconian restrictions imposed by the hegemons trying to asphyxiate does who don't kneel

That's exactly why we need a parallel banking system, crypto or not

Re:Tell HN: I'm going on strike this November on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @09:56AM (#50273621)
Oh don't you dare to say the truth or you will be downvoted into oblivion by those who seek comfort dodging reality
Re:Pharo 14 on Monday October 26, 2026 @07:39PM (#50252742)
I asked AI if she had to rebuild everything from scratch what language would she pick?

Her answer, SmallTalk

Duh, China?
Re:Flapping Airplanes on Sunday October 25, 2026 @02:10PM (#50234316)
> "We have developed the world’s most complete megakernel framework"

Where is it? Can we see it? Test it? Play with it?

I'd like to see it compared to chinese models like DeepSeek, Kimi, GLM, etc just for the sake of research
They hear us all the time, here is an anecdote...

I was at the butcher one day and asked for "ossobuco" because I wanted some bones for my dog, then all of a sudden I got reels with ossobuco in it, recipes, sellers, nearby shops, etc and I said WTF? Who the fuck makes posts about ossobuco? Why all of a sudden after using social apps just for football and porn all I start getting is ossobuco ads everywhere? A word you will never see anywhere now popping up in all my social feeds.

Possibility of that being random? Zero, not in this probabilistic universe we live in

Re:We should be more ambitious with the software we build on Sunday October 25, 2026 @12:11PM (#50233132)
We should be more ambitious with padding
Re:Swedish government offices to ban ChatGPT and Claude on Friday October 23, 2026 @09:29AM (#50208688)
Total sovereignty starts with your own OS, LLM, GPS, processors, devices mobile and desktop, etc. Everything else is just delusion
Re:Every AI model has the same "controversial" take on humans on Thursday October 22, 2026 @05:45PM (#50201491)
"Humans would rather be wrong together than right alone"

Then I am not human. I rather die right alone than wrong together. Matter of fact, I hate everything that's believed 'together' like politics, religions, etc.

Re:No More Icons in Every Menu by Default on Thursday October 22, 2026 @10:08AM (#50195542)
[x] Show icons in menu items

Make it an option, everybody happy

Re:What shall I teach my son? on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @06:23PM (#50173512)
Tell him he should learn how to use his second brain, it has a thousand times more capacity than his first brain

Intelligence will never be scarce. Super Intelligence I meant

Free market for me, not for you!

Huawei, BYD, TikTok, DeepSeek, Binance, etc

If something threatens american dominance it will be declared a risk to national security, demonized in the media, and banned by executive order

Land of the pussy that can't compete openly

Re:PalmOS Lemmings on Sunday October 18, 2026 @06:35PM (#50146187)
I played Lemmings so much I may be porting it to Swift

Hold my beer...

I wonder if we will run out of battery materials in a hundred years, then what?
Re:Tesla Roadster on Thursday October 15, 2026 @10:33PM (#50113233)
Technology: spectacular, design: ugly as fuck
Not you, your coding agent, for three platforms and at least ten languages

If you go Rust all the way all you need is the installer for each platform

Much better it can give us just webview in wry and winit without tauri bloat
Re:Celebrating 70 Years of Fortran on Thursday October 15, 2026 @01:59PM (#50107563)
I learned Fortran 77 in 1988, oh weird memories

After learning Pascal I thought fortran was definitely strange and moved on, never to touch it again

Re:AlphaNIST on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @07:41PM (#50080502)
Without clicking the link. What is it? How about a short description?

Alphanist - Some app/lib/code that does something

Re:How to engineer an AI harness for game development on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @01:31PM (#50075462)
"LLMs are Bad At Games"

Oh no they're not. I built dozens of small games for the web and five games in Swift and they're spectacular, getting better since day one. Not like Call of Duty but just fun and bug-free enough to play them every day

Re:Gemini 4 Argon on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @01:27PM (#50075396)
Google has too many options that may confuse users. I don't know if I should use Antigravity or AI studio or Argon for development

Which one is it?

I like that, everything is open source now
