Kratisto

I'm really into the Dresden novels as well. Also read all of the Cosmere, and I highly recommend. 1/3rd of the way through Wheel of Time right now.

If you don't mind me asking, what fiction have you enjoyed? Maybe some people in here can help out.

Can you access your todo system from your phone? I'm always torn on this, and why I keep my todos in google keep.

Re:Zotero: Personal Research Assistant on Thursday March 26, 2020 @12:52PM (#22695461)
A college professor taught me about Zotero during my last semester. Awesome tool, but I wish I learned about it years before. I try and teach every student I meet about it.

I'm not sure if you posted it anywhere, but would you mind sharing what technology you used for this? I would be very interested in contributing if it became open source.

Well this was over 200 words, so congrats! One day down.

Is Ghent car free? I don't know anything about the city.
Re:Why Discord Is Sticking with React Native on Thursday July 26, 2018 @06:11PM (#17621757)
Just to add my experience, I feel like it's hit or miss. It seems like I get notifications with zero issues. Then I'll randomly have a week or two in a row where I don't get notifications or get 50% of them. Not sure why this happens, but I use Discord as my only means of contact with multiple people.
So do you work remote to live in a low cost of living area? Just curious how many big salary opportunities are in low cost of living areas.
Re:The Decline of the MacBook Pro on Friday June 08, 2018 @01:41PM (#17267856)
I completely agree there is no best desktop. I think the statement is better suited as Ubuntu is the "best desktop experience for the average person". I think that's what most people really mean when having this discussion. The average person part is sort of implied.
Re:The iPhone dongle is still my fucking nightmare on Thursday May 31, 2018 @05:14PM (#17200348)
I'm not sure if there is a limit on number of people or maybe they just don't want "green" messages. Either way it's conform or be left out.
Re:The iPhone dongle is still my fucking nightmare on Thursday May 31, 2018 @05:13PM (#17200336)
That's fair. It's just annoying for things like a soccer team. If someone has an update about game time or something, someone has to text me specifically.
Re:The iPhone dongle is still my fucking nightmare on Thursday May 31, 2018 @05:02PM (#17200232)
I understand the sacrifice though. I've always been an Android guy, but I'm left out of a lot of group chats because of it. I play on multiple sports teams where I'm the only one without an iPhone. They have a group chat for the team, and I'm the only one left off. Same with just difference friend groups. I try and get people to use whatsapp, hangouts, groupme, or just anything else and no dice. I've considered switching to an iPhone just for social reasons, but can't bring myself to do it.
I know WhatsApp isn't perfect, but I wish most people where I lived used it. Well I wish they used anything really. I'm one of my few friends on Android, and it is really annoying being excluded from group chats because of it.
Re:Why I left Google to join Grab on Wednesday January 24, 2018 @10:46AM (#16223535)
I think it's a little unfair to just decide what "worse" is. Every older generation loves to say they like the old ways better. Seems hypocritical as they watch tv while playing on their iPad.
Re:Don't Buy Anyone an Echo on Tuesday December 05, 2017 @01:27PM (#15854210)
>Yes. Consider the amount of movement/exercise the average western person gets, it might even be life threatening.

That seems like a massive stereotype there. I just don't see how changing the lighting in your house from a switch to audio could be "life threatening". You have zero idea what physical fitness the individual above does. I also don't understand how asking, "What is the weather like outside?" while tying your shoes is an issue. I don't think this is Asimov level of automation. It's just a mild convenience.

Re:iPhone X on Tuesday September 12, 2017 @04:33PM (#15232257)
I always feel like around the 2 year mark my phone feels very different compared to when I bought it. Battery feels worse, everything feels slower, and crashes start to accumulate. Are you not running into this?
Re:TypeScript 2.4 on Tuesday June 27, 2017 @04:42PM (#14649218)
Perfect, would you be willing to write one?
Re:Ask HN: What is your commute like? on Wednesday March 08, 2017 @01:22PM (#13822293)
I grew up in Pennsylvania, and Denver is my first place outside of there. Housing is expensive, but not near NYC/SF expensive. The tech scene is growing, but clearly isn't as big either. Overall, I really like Denver, and I'm happy with my choice. I wouldn't be opposed to trying a different city though, since I've only lived in two places.
Re:Ask HN: What is your commute like? on Wednesday March 08, 2017 @12:52PM (#13821990)
Denver, CO - Office (Downtown by Coors Field) is 1.2 miles from my apartment. I either walk to work, or my girlfriend drops me off sometimes. Denver has a free metro bus that goes up and down 18th/19th street. If I'm lucky I can catch it at and cut 5-10 minutes off my walk. Sometimes there isn't one there, and I just walk the whole way. If I do that it takes 20-25 minutes, but is nice and easy.
Re:Snap Jumps in Debut After App Maker Raises $3.4B in IPO on Thursday March 02, 2017 @04:51PM (#13778590)
Both my coworker and I are in the (23-26) range. All my friends (new city, college, and home) all use Snap religiously. All of her friends use Instagram. I think it's just hit or miss depending on the groups. A lot of my friends use Instagram as well. However, not for the story aspect.

Re:VimWiki – A personal wiki for Vim on Monday December 12, 2016 @11:25AM (#13159235)
Love your wiki. I've been trying to come up with a way to save my links/notes, and I really like how you have done it.
Re:Microsoft Teams, the new chat-based workspace in Office 365 on Thursday November 03, 2016 @12:40PM (#12865543)
Ever figure this out? I did the same thing today! I enabled it, and both the app/browser version say I need to enable it. Already did, but maybe it just takes a little while.

Re:Ask HN: How do you manager your passwords? on Friday July 01, 2016 @12:58PM (#12017789)
How do you use 1Password with DropBox? Just looked up 1Password for the first time. Does it seem worth the $5 a month?
Mind talking a little more about your stack? This is very interesting.
