Re:uBlock Origin filter to block autoplay videos in TechCrunch on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @04:22AM (#50349792)
Years ago I had a discussion with a guy from "AdTech" company: Their companies was pushing out ads on several large websites - he said the first thing on a new computer is an Adblocker to get rid off all the shit his company is distributing across the net :-D
Re:uBlock Origin filter to block autoplay videos in TechCrunch on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @04:21AM (#50349785)
I know of a very popular newswebsite in my region which somehow works around this: When overscrolling the video window on their site, ALWAYS the video starts to play - I have the option disabled in FF settings, nontheless its not working in this case :-X
Re:Ask HN: Which TV do you recommend for privacy? on Monday November 02, 2026 @03:03AM (#50334218)
OT:

There are several videos on YT regarding removing all this Ad/Spy/Bloatware from "smart" TVs using Claude and only a few prompts: Actually, it should be very easy for most poeple here on HN to do this as Ive found some videos which seem to be done by "non techies" and they were successful.

Re:HackerTube: YouTube built from videos recommended by HN on Sunday November 01, 2026 @01:38PM (#50328351)
Thats what I do as well for channels I completely dislike.

The thing is: Im subscribed to a lot of channels (like 80-90) and YT constantly recommends me stuff I have already seen and/or is years old. Its exactly about these cases.

Yes, perma-block works,sure!

Re:HackerTube: YouTube built from videos recommended by HN on Sunday November 01, 2026 @04:53AM (#50324055)
YT search sucks, and this by intention to keep the people scrolling. The sorting & co is all completely broken, YT recommends continuously stuff from years ago etc.
> new car

...which is still tooo much for most people to spend on "AI hardware"....

Re:HackerTube: YouTube built from videos recommended by HN on Saturday October 31, 2026 @08:58PM (#50321778)
Can I search with your app for ONLY the latest uploaded videos and filter for content length?

Will it display whatever bullshit recommendations YouTube feeds?

Really looking for an option to only have "current stuff" - YT constantly recommends me stuff from 3 years ago which I already watched, even with my highly curated account.

Thanks for sharing, very smart move from the badboys.

True, but it gets complicated or even impossible if you try to do across international/fragmented transfers & countries.

But with Web 2.0 we got rounded corners for popups etc.
Re:How to grow a cacao tree at home on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @05:54AM (#50256701)
Ive heard of this method over here in Europe some years ago, though do not know if these process gained any traction regarding regular bought food brands?
Re:The Mythical Man-Month in the Age of AI on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @05:51AM (#50256684)
The thing is, AI is generating sooo fast so many outputs, its hard to review and evaluate all of them: Very often I encounter in design/architecture questions a situation where the model suggests 2 - 3 alternatives approaches, then asking a little bit and there you are with 30+ pages of content etc.
Re:Anthropic S-1 on Monday October 26, 2026 @12:08PM (#50246156)
...exactly this were my thoughts when reading the response:

Maybe Apple is just waiting on the line until someone can be sucked up at a penny if the house is on fire - and pretty sure, this will happen. Not in 2027, but I expect MA activites & consoliation before 2030

Re:Anthropic S-1 on Monday October 26, 2026 @11:53AM (#50245883)
Im developing at home a fairly large data app on a 4x3GHz Athlon with 16GB RAM and a SSD disk with VS.NET + full Microsoft backend tooling.

The machine was bought in 2011 and it runs Windows Server.

I can do whatever I need with the device, apart from Gaming. Even YT works in 4k.

So, tell me now please why my 15 year old computer is not useful here?

...and global usage/reach was practically zero...
ClaudeOS - thats actually a very good idea! I have not thought that far yet, they could easily build a good one as a lot of Apple employees are inserting their thoughts for free into Claude :-)
How have these two been killed by AI?
It works great, cool project!

I discovered something rightout near me that I wasnt aware of!:)

Yeah, according to the downvote-count, I guess you are right :-D
THe thing is, Copilot is by far not as good as Claude (-:
Ive lately experienced that asking for 100% office onsite time is rising eye brows with many people: I hate remote work since Covid, I want an office, leave my appartment, meet colleagues.

But it looks like Im by far the minority, if I remember recent discussions?

IIRC,this is already true for some?

Re:The 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement is no longer viable on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @12:02PM (#50183246)
Mh, while Ive met a lot of these guys by coincidence over the last 20 years, Ive never heard of one claiming that "migration is cause for climate change"
Re:The 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement is no longer viable on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @08:47AM (#50179997)
True! Maybe its just a slowdown or the first clear signs of incoming collapse of these ressources? Though, domestic land is already accelerating again over the last year, so it will be on par again with its previous high.

And this ensemble is only a collection of some KPI, there are additional ones I guess which will show similar upwards-trend.
