Re:Please petition GitHub to support HTTPS on GitHub pages on Friday November 27, 2015 @01:17AM (#10636109)
Makes it super easy to filter out and delete though...
Re:Backblaze Storage Pod 5.0 on Tuesday November 10, 2015 @07:19PM (#10543769)
The main problem I have with Backblaze and AWS is that there is no budget limit on transfers.

I would like to tell the provider; limit downloads to $500, then reply 509 to further requests.

Re:How Hack the North wasn’t the bomb on Monday September 21, 2015 @02:21AM (#10250661)
It was dumb joke but I think Swift overreacted. I would be quite enough to tell them to remove their comments and apologize.
Re:Ask HN: Recommend a good antivirus for Windows on Thursday July 30, 2015 @10:20PM (#9979583)
Try ESET Smart Security, they have a 30 days free trial period.
Re:Ask HN: Automatic generation of code documentation on Sunday July 12, 2015 @09:52PM (#9875938)
I guess that depends on your toolchain.

For Java, I use Maven which have some powerful tools (Maven Site) to create test-reports, documentation, api-docs, coverage reports, diagrams and much more. It's also easy to extend yourself.

"Hate-tweet"? Since when did mild criticism (and valid such IMHO) become classified as hate?
Re:YubiKey – Making secure login easy on Thursday June 18, 2015 @03:12AM (#9737186)
Sounds like you got some nice material for a blog post about the subject?
Re:Django and Webpack on Tuesday May 26, 2015 @04:21AM (#9603494)
The ReadMe should start with an abstract explaining what the project does and how I can benefit by using it.

Right now I have no clue what it is. Perhaps a clone of django-pipeline?

Re:Perfect Security on Friday May 15, 2015 @04:32AM (#9549496)
Not entirely true, the world is not that binary.

I can't remember where I read it, but a locked door is quite effective in preventing burglary as forcing the lock or crashing a window would greatly increase the chance being detected.

Re:Notepad++ website Hacked on Thursday April 02, 2015 @01:35AM (#9308849)
For those who does not know; the site was hacked/defaced a few months ago for supporting "Je Suis Charlie". This is most likely a joke poking fun at the hackers.
Re:LibreOffice Project's Check on Sunday March 01, 2015 @08:08PM (#9129752)
Are these issues reported to LO devs, or they have to look it up themselves?
Re:The Sad State of High Bit Depth GIMP Color Management on Monday November 03, 2014 @03:13AM (#8549829)
The problem does not seem to be GIMP if I understand the article correct, but the GEGL code (or the developer of it) which it relies on.
Re:Best book on body language and just general cues? on Wednesday October 22, 2014 @10:23PM (#8496416)
I have only fleeting interest in the subject so I've only read one titled "What every body is saying" by Joe Navarro. It did teach me a few things, but didn't really strengthen my interest or desire to go more to more depth in the field.
Re:Writing Extensions for Firefox Is Barely Worth the Trouble on Monday September 08, 2014 @09:54PM (#8288366)
You could always ask here if someone would like to take over the maintenance.
Re:Firebug 2.0 on Tuesday June 10, 2014 @08:42PM (#7876086)
This is good news, Firebug is a steady companion in my work. The UI is consistent, no elements moving around between releases. It works with Django web applications, which the built-in devtools does not. And allows me to persist the log of network connections between page reloads.
Re:Visual Studio 14 Preview on Wednesday June 04, 2014 @12:22AM (#7844017)
Probably a management decision, not an engineer one.
Re:I've made an open source flappy bird clone on Sunday February 09, 2014 @07:52PM (#7208368)
Am I the only one who reacts on the graphics rip-off?

Sure, clones are okay in my POV but when it goes to a level where even the graphics are identical to the original...

Re:Look some otters on Tuesday January 14, 2014 @07:20PM (#7060792)
That's interesting... Reload the page with JavaScript disabled, and suddenly the page is riddled with links to retailers of Cialis, Viagra, loans and such.

Is this some kind of trick to get more Google hits?

Re:Adobe confirms stolen passwords were encrypted, not hashed on Tuesday November 05, 2013 @01:51AM (#6673607)
AFAIK you need the same IV for both encryption and decryption.

Some calculate an IV using existing components (such as has of email or name or such), some always use 0x0 as IV. But safest method is to have a random IV (preferably also stored in a HSM along with the key) per encrypted account.

Some time ago I saw the documentary "Food Inc." where they show this process with ammonium hydroxide and ignorant as I am about the food processing industry, I was negativey surprised.

There is still more going on and although the documentary may be a bit sensationalist, if just 10% is true it's still appalling what the industry is doing to cut the costs. And I wonder if impact on human health and environment can be good in the long run.

But at least for me it made a difference, I think about what I eat and I try to choose organic, locally produced and less pre-processed food. Probably I'm imagining things, but I feel better, have more strength and being less tired after work.

My partner had the idea to try an old-fashion "startup" for ourselves as soon as we can get a piece of land. With chickens (eggs), beekeeping and growing vegetables, we can hopefully take a step further away from the processing industry.

Considering NSA and other three letter agencies apparently have quite plenty of surveillance equipment installed, I think your revolution will be met at the door step by two gentlemen in black suits.
Question: Isn't Newsdiffs setting themselves up for a lawsuit by re-printing the article?
Re:Facebook agrees to block sexual assault 'humor' on Wednesday May 29, 2013 @02:04AM (#5784861)
Facebook is a private company and depends on income from advertisers to provide a "free" service. So in reality it is the advertisers who control Facebook I would say, and therefore have some weight to throw around.
Re:What if Google starts doing it? on Monday May 27, 2013 @03:45AM (#5773823)
Payment for a service is not always with hard currency, but as in this case, with information about ourselves and our connections.
> campaign donors

I would dare to say this could be a contributing factor to the state of politics and law. Essentially, laws and regulations are bought by the highest bidder.

I think many agree with me that neither religion or money should have influence on direction of politics.

For the anonymity on legislation; No. Legislation, political- and judicial processes IMHO be 100% transparent.

Isn't it good that the PTO resists pressure from either group? I mean, the only part which would have influence on how they work is the entity above PTO, whichever that one is (Supreme Court/DOJ/?).
Firefox 23 does not have TLS v1.2, but Nightly will very soon. During March there have been very active development in NSS for TLS v1.2 and they are AFAIK checking in bit by bit now.
Micromanagment is not always a bad thing, and Steve Jobs is one shining example of this. Of course not everyone is good at it, but time will tell how this ends up.

My guess is that current management have become stale, comfortable and somewhat corrupted. Recruiting favors those with connections within the company, not the ones with experience, knowledge or brilliance. She could of course outright fire managers, but that could lead to worse consequences than micromanagment would.

Anyway, time will tell.
