Most push media work exactly like tv. Magazines and newspapers have ads in between the content and don't forget about radio that works exactly the same.

This one of the problems the internet brings as a pull mechanism. The great thing about Blendle is that younger people actually pay for content and have the possibility to read articles from multiple outlets (which is better imo than only reading only single newspaper)

That's why you would let some scrap collectors in and basically say to them: What would you pay me for this scrap if you have to haul it away yourself?

Why is this a mistake? And not just policy as well? Or is it because Apple tests boundaries and backpedals when necessary and call it a mistake afterwards?

If you can make 200M and have a risk of paying 100M in the worst case you still make 100M more than you would without doing it. So it's basically calculated risk for these companies.
Re:Why i’m done wearing a helmet
on Monday June 15, 2015 @02:56PM (#9721270)
You probably saw that wrong, because almost every bike is locked and everyone has had his/her bike stolen at least once. Most locks are part of the bike though and not a chainlock.
Re:Why i’m done wearing a helmet
on Monday June 15, 2015 @10:47AM (#9719631)
Dutchie reporting in! Nobody wears a helmet here when they're riding their bike to work, schools, stores, etc. The average speed will be somewhere between 15-20 km/h and is relatively slow, next to that most bike paths are separated from the road so you'll only come in to contact with cars at crossings (and this is where most accidents probably occur).
When people get on their MT/Racing bikes the speed increases dramatically to 30+ km/h (and most people wear a helmet) and other people on the road don't always expect those speeds coming from bike lanes so that's why you'll see more accidents. To summarize: Fix your infrastructure and you won't really need a helmet.

Re:Europe Is Struggling to Foster a Startup Culture
on Tuesday May 19, 2015 @10:59AM (#9570513)
Let's be honest here (I'm Dutch): In the Netherlands failing is looked down upon, investing in something as risky as a start-up is very uncommon and probably frowned upon, working for 40+ hours is okay but we highly value our spare time, there are lots and lots of rules and regulations if you want to hire and fire. All these things are part of our culture and need to be modified in our hearts and rulesets to have a better environment where startups can thrive as well as in the US.

Exactly a lot of real world (older) users do this and I cringe a little every time I see it. They don't even know that you can single click. This isn't a huge issue, but it's much more common than the people here seem to think.

Uberdrivers aren't driven off the road, because they need to go through the same hoops as every other Taxi. Uberpop drivers on the other hand are illegal in the Netherlands.
Re:France wants companies to make appliances that last longer
on Tuesday March 03, 2015 @03:10AM (#9136598)
In the Netherlands we have a warranty system that works a bit like this. Basically you have a warranty on your stuff as long as it's expected lifetime. So for instance you claim your warranty on a dishwasher for at least 5 years and on your MacBook you will probably get it for at least 3 years (of course you can't claim such a long lifespan on your battery).

You basically buy credit to buy apps, games, dlc, music, etc. This a bit of relic from the days of Microsoft points that you needed to use on the Xbox 360. When I buy an app with my Windows phone it can directly charge my provider.
