Kind of works until the TV, the fridge, a user's BYOD or your printer has infiltrated your LAN.

So it kind of doesn't.

https://pyscript.net/ ?

What are you using?

I heard the term "Sloperator" a few times. Quite fitting...

There should be a category: "Background Check" in the Android developer options. You can pretty finely tune or alter the automatically set priorities and permissions for background activity there.

I don't know exactly what the option is called but since Android 8 there is at least a toggle there per app. Later versions have lots more settings.

Re:How many of the 170k English words do you know? on Friday June 19, 2026 @11:35AM (#48599793)
Combined with the factoid it features under "how is this calculated":

However, most native speakers have an active vocabulary between 15,000 and 35,000 words.
We must be geniuses, lol.

Getting "Obfuscate" as #99 and "Quixotic" as #100 made me feel exorbitantly smart.
If it's the same as on Win10 it's a UWP App that needs a ton of dependencies like .net, WinUI2/XAML.

The appx is: Approximate size 21.8 MB according to https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9wzdncrfhvn5

Win7 calc.exe had 758KB for i686 and 897KB for amd64.

I really like Betterbird. It's basically ESR Thunderbird + a few fixes.

If you want mail to just work and updates going smoothly it's the solution.

Probably a cache thing. Win11 precaches a lot of stuff if you hover over it or have excess RAM. It's not as smart as SuperFetch and ReadyBoost (with an HDD) was but it's still doing similar things.
Microsoft has AppLocker (since Win7, I think). If you give it a curated whitelist it's actually quite alright and manages well via GPO. (until you manage to lock yourself out ;) Much less overhead than any 3rd party tool that hooks the kernel.

Connect Keyboard, Press PgDn.

Or what I actually use for ssh on the road: https://github.com/klausw/hackerskeyboard

Google kicked it from their store because it still supports older Androids but it still works just fine on the latest versions. It's on F-Droid.

I still prefer my Magic 8 Ball, it's less exhausting. But this is pretty cool.
Agreed, I don't want to miss my 24" 16:10 displays. They are just standard IPS though but enough for work.

Still on X11. OBS just works.

Also still on X11 because of xorgxrdp and X11 forwarding.

It would be cool to see this test with a CRT connected to a VGA port (adapters make it slower) and a PS/2 input device.

Yeah, not testing X11 was a weird choice.

It's likely his monitor. Would be interesting to see CRT results.

Interesting methodology:

"To investigate, I used a small Teensy microcontroller to measure click-to-photon latency. It acts as a USB HID mouse and is paired with a light sensor pressed against the screen. I flashed it with an existing Open Source LDAT sketch, with slight modifications. The resulting setup can log hundreds of samples to a CSV file, unattended."

I agree, it should work. It just doesn't. I haven't had the time yet to figure out why it doesn't because everything is fine on X11.

Glad to hear, and neat site. Cool to see new Ruby on Rails sites. Thought I was the only one still loving it. ;)

Europe

IP address has no effect on the User Agent block though...

Re:Now AI agents need what RSS does on Tuesday June 02, 2026 @09:10PM (#48378445)
I just noticed the same thing.

UA being blocked for example:

  Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:140.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/140.0
Did mess with it some more:

Allowed:

    Opera/9.80 (Windows NT 6.1; U; zh-tw) Presto/2.7.62 Version/11.01
    Opera/9.80 (Windows NT 5.1; U; cs) Presto/2.7.62 Version/11.01
406:

    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/14.0 Opera/12.0
    Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 14; rv:140.0) Gecko/20110101 Firefox/140.0
Maybe just remove it?
Re:Now AI agents need what RSS does on Tuesday June 02, 2026 @09:09PM (#48378440)
Getting

    406 browser not supported
for ESR Firefox 140.

If I set my UA to "FUCKIT" I can use the site perfectly fine. Why is there a User Agent Filter that disables the whole website? This should be maybe a warning, not a complete block.

They will just rediscover Bluetooth. Kids have always passed around stuff they weren't supposed to have.

Source: I was a kid once, we had no cell phones. Porn on 5.25" floppies was a thing.

Wasn't there a (proposed) "standard" in 90s (eMediaMark, I remembered) that just added a Header to HTTP in order to have ancient browsers automatically filter adult content.

That would easily be enforceable by making a "kid mode" enabled and locked down by a parent with a password mandatory on devices. Then you could have something like this:

    Adult-Content: true
    Age-Threshold: 18
suggested here: https://digitalbiztalk.com/article/a-better-way-the-adult-co...

eMediaMark is now Internet Content Rating the stuff I was remembering can be seen here: https://icr.chit.eu/

You can just take that, it's been there for decades.

You might have an older GPU that doesn't work with wayland like me. My Radeon HD5870 also won't do Vulkan and anything wayland has never worked properly for me.
Re:StarFighter 16-Inch on Wednesday May 06, 2026 @01:24PM (#48038884)
Yes, but "i" is not a toggle.
Re:StarFighter 16-Inch on Wednesday May 06, 2026 @12:29PM (#48038146)
If you use (n)vim it's a good key to have.
Re:StarFighter 16-Inch on Wednesday May 06, 2026 @12:18PM (#48037994)
You can also have an older Ryzen 7 8845HS according to the tech specs. Even though the overview page states it's a Ryzen 9. Weird.
