Re:What do Visa and Mastercard do? An intro to card networks on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @03:21PM (#49632619)
Why do you play the points game?

I felt like if I didnt spend $1 on something that was the equivalent of me spending $50 to get those same credit card points

Re:Ask HN: Why isn't there a cursor for video games development on Friday September 04, 2026 @06:48PM (#49571103)
Oh I want a new hypothesis:

4) Video games can't compete with tiktok/insta. The attention economy is limited, without more players or more spending in the market, its not as sustainable to create more video games

Ask HN: Why isn't there a cursor for video games development

So I was prototyping with claude code and Godot engine, and I thought it was weird that this specific category of AI isn't as big as video gen creative suites. Like theres big names like runway and higgsfield but when it comes to video games there's no major company trying to make a one stop shop using AI to make video games. I'm sure it isn't because of a lack of trying, I'm sure developers...

Re:Tell HN: Seedance 2.5 API Pricing on Tuesday August 04, 2026 @11:26AM (#49170333)
*7.50 is what api providers should charge you. Using resellers may charge you more

Tell HN: Seedance 2.5 API Pricing

Just got confirmation with my account manager as well as info on byteplus that the price of seedance 2.5 is 50% more than seedance 2.For a 30 second video it'll be around $7.50 for a 30 second 720p 16:9 video. (lower than I heard)And 2.5 is actually available now through their Lumina business package(it's like $300/month) right now, or it'll be released via api in 1-2 weeks

Re:Hollywood Stopped Making Movies in Hollywood on Monday August 03, 2026 @08:10PM (#49162957)
I was talking to a guy who did hollywood financing- when you get a 40% tax credit from the national level plus a 3 mil tax break at the state level producers will gladly shift production especially when the financial realities of film are pretty tough
Re:Seedance 2.5 on Sunday August 02, 2026 @03:55AM (#49142120)
I was trying to get at that its 2x more expensive for businesses, and personally I dont think 2.5 is worth double the variable cost. At least initially
Re:Seedance 2.5 on Sunday August 02, 2026 @12:21AM (#49141072)
I would like to see seedance 2.5 at 1080 vs seedance 2.0 but at 4k to see which models outperform

From our experience putting in more money leads to more computerand better performance from the prompt

Re:Seedance 2.5 on Sunday August 02, 2026 @12:19AM (#49141063)
Fyi based on what people are saying on twitter, seedance 2.5 is ~2x as expensive. For a 30 second generation at dreamina it costs 1440 credits or around $15
Re:Seedance 2.5 on Sunday August 02, 2026 @12:17AM (#49141046)
They have not. It also seems the dreamina acess is delayed for the US
Re:Seedance 2.5 on Sunday August 02, 2026 @12:16AM (#49141042)
Its not released in the US yet
Define exporbant? Subjective experience but the differnece in 70mm imax vs Imax was $7ish in SF
7 or 8 of which are in California
Re:How an AI Anime Is Created on Wednesday July 22, 2026 @12:08AM (#49001760)
Thank you, its unfortunate that it performed terribly on social media, otherwise I wouldve loved to continue making this sort of content

Oh well back to making 'I got isekaid to a medival time period with a cheat skill and harem'

Re:Who's Afraid of Chinese Models? on Tuesday July 21, 2026 @11:41PM (#49001604)
Is there more info?
Re:Who's Afraid of Chinese Models? on Tuesday July 21, 2026 @12:07PM (#48994194)
Why hasnt the EU develop an competitive open source model? Ive only of mistral, but with the chinese models you have GLM, Kimi, Qwen, Deepseek etc all of which seems to be better and better
Misquote? Or selective hearing for the story headline? Thats literally a 4x difference there
Tell us about the test scores increased? Did you find similar results on the PSAT?

If your metrics are good, increasing test scores is the thing thats 100% going yo get schools on board

OP this is it

Almost all the founders who have tried to go into education have come out with similar thoughts.

Schools are basically legacy companies with low nps products. It might do you better to vertically integrate as hard as that is

Re:Dupes (product clones) took over the world on Sunday July 19, 2026 @11:34PM (#48974071)
Do consumers care? Almost always not. But to say the quality is the same is incorrect
Re:Dupes (product clones) took over the world on Sunday July 19, 2026 @11:31PM (#48974057)
> what is not being copied and why?

Most counterfeits goods skimp on manufacturing quality. Like instead of very detailed stitching with intricate design they might just skip that altogether. For instance one of the easiest ways to identify dupes is if the brand name and design on a bag 'flows' to the other side. Obv counterfeits dont really care because they want to save money

For counterfeit goods that are so high quality 1) they would only show pictures of it, not the real thing and 2) only cost like 1/3 of the brand price.

Aka that $600 bag would still cost $200 if it had identical quality. This is all based on what business owners told me from when I visited counterfeit markets in China

*upate I just realized this is Saline, next to Ann Arbor and had a lot of student activism to push back against the data centre project like last year

So imo I dont think the article truly represents the opinions and thoughts of most michiganders

I mean Michigan really loves it when something gives jobs, so as long as the data center actually enacts on it then I suspect opposition will go away

That said, we've seen data center projects often employ much less jobs than expected. I know Core Scientific when they did a data center in like Texas they employed like 10 people not 200

I thought 'hardware is hard' is a VC statement to apply a broad stroke for why its hard to make succesful hardware companies (that gives 100x returns)

For reasons other commentors have already mentioned-scale, logistics, revisions. And for reasons they havent mentioned-cash flow

Re:Stripe, Advent offer to buy PayPal for more than $53B on Wednesday July 15, 2026 @07:57PM (#48928807)
If paypal goes? wheres the competition? Surely this isnt going to past ftc?

And as much trump friendly the ftc is, theres still the state attornies like we see with the paramount deal

Re:Inkling: Our Open-Weights Model on Wednesday July 15, 2026 @03:46PM (#48926137)
Maybe the thesis is that

Open source low cost models will dominate most enterprise tasks as cost curves will dictate usage. TM is trying to replicate that especially as the US and China gets more defensive with their tech

Re:Are we offloading too much of our thinking to AI? on Tuesday July 14, 2026 @04:48PM (#48912753)
> If a human writes a novel, it's inherently worth more because it's hard-earned and anchored to experiences we share

But the market doesnt reward that. Different consumers different markets, but (using a salad analogy) overall consumers dont care how a salad is made, only whether it tastes good and is cheap

Agreed, you never insult or complain about the customer you only address their issues
Re:Cyberpunk Comics, Manga and Graphic Novels on Monday July 13, 2026 @02:46AM (#48888790)
Unfortunately that's how the system is. New material is risky and hollywood is not performing well financially

At least we have houses like A24 which brings interesting content
