Re:Camden, New Jersey: America's Most Desperate Town on Tuesday February 11, 2014 @12:20PM (#7218760)
This was the 70s so of course you can't exactly link a story. This wouldn't have been that big of a story back then - too much crime going on at once.
Re:Camden, New Jersey: America's Most Desperate Town on Tuesday February 11, 2014 @09:38AM (#7217775)
Camden was a shithole even in the early '70s. My great grandmother was robbed, beaten, tied up and left for dead on the floor of her tenement looking apartment. She was found alive a few days later.
Great information. You may want to be more specific and use a physical address. My zip provides many carriers that I am unable to get - for instance it provides two different cable companies.
Re:How To Hire Outsourced Developers on Wednesday January 15, 2014 @05:26PM (#7066643)
Unfortunately it can't be avoided. I've always asked the question and most will say they work alone but then proceed to have team members do the work. It can become a big waste of time.
Re:How To Hire Outsourced Developers on Wednesday January 15, 2014 @03:06PM (#7065779)
This post doesn't contemplate one of the biggest problems on Odesk. The best of the "team" will perform the test. Then they put one of their low level team members on after the team leader passes the test.

The only way I have learned to work around the problem is to require use of the odesk time tracker with WEBCAM. Can't hide who is doing the work with the WEBCAM taking shots of the person. :)

Ask HN: Any time tracking apps that also track IPs?

I’m constantly hiring contractors from Odesk and finding out later that they are outsourcing the work I am giving them to contractors who are far less skilled. Odesk has a time tracking app that also shows work screenshots but you cannot get any data to determine if the contractor you hired is actually performing the work. So, I’m trying to find an app similar to the Odesk time tracking app...

I completed the Adwords videos on Lynda.com. Very comprehensive. Actually probably went through all the videos twice to make sure I understood it fully.

Bezos must have still been playing checkers when he bought into Living Social. :)
Re:Storage Space Doubled For All Linode VPS plans on Thursday July 25, 2013 @03:07PM (#6104318)
Every time I upgrade I lose email functionality. Anyone having the same problem?
Sure, violence isn't usually directed at co-workers. I don't think I've ever seen that happen (it does happen of course but is fairly rare). I did have a couple that attacked a customer or two but that was after being provoked. In those cases, they didn't have any prior offenses so weren't convicted felons.

You can't stop thieves though. You never want to insure against that - you will always lose.

Having represented these people for 15 years, no. Non-sexual and non violent. Whats left. Some form of theft - worse for a company than violence. Multiple DWIs? Drunk. Drug offenses? No.
Re:The declining profitability of Google Adwords on Tuesday May 28, 2013 @08:01AM (#5779398)
Thanks very much for the detailed answer. That really explains things from Googles perspective. Very nice service you offer. I think that it will serve to save people a lot of money on Adwords.
Re:The declining profitability of Google Adwords on Monday May 27, 2013 @11:54AM (#5775063)
Can you give an idea of how much lower the cost per click could be with a very high quality score (ie 5% of Googles suggested cost per click)?

"With a high Quality Score you can get clicks for a much lower cost. Some experiments put this at about 5% per unit of quality score change (Quality score is on a scale of 1 to 10)."

Re:Send money with Gmail on Wednesday May 15, 2013 @05:44PM (#5715183)
When there's a substantial amount of money involved Google has great customer service. Never had a problem getting issues resolved with my Adwords account.

What steps did you take to assess their skills?
Re:Instacart Launches Costco on Monday April 22, 2013 @04:28PM (#5591582)
I'm guessing there is no agreement with Costco since there was no response from "apoorvamehta" who has answered questions in this thread.
Crunchbase shows the company took $270k in seed 3/1/13. Why would you take the seed funding when you were doing so well?
Re:Zombie VCs on Friday April 05, 2013 @02:42PM (#5500224)
You're relying on Crunchbase data? It appears (now I could be wrong) that even the Crunchbase data on your own company is wrong. Crunchbase shows referly raised $2m. Is that correct? If the Crunchbase data on your own company is wrong, how can you possibly rely on that data to evaluate other VCs/companies?
Re:Instacart: We're Sorry on Wednesday April 03, 2013 @08:38AM (#5485628)
So you believe a company can charge $99 for a yearly service and then say "by the way, we may increase prices in 30 days if we decide to do so." So what happens to the $99 I paid?

They breached the contract by charging the additional fees. A company can't change the terms and say "whoops, that plan didn't work better start charging for small orders."

Re:I'm disappointed by Instacart on Tuesday April 02, 2013 @02:36PM (#5481252)
This would be equivalent to signing a contract and, on the reverse side of the contract, it stating that the drafter of the contract is not bound by the terms. Can't do it. Both parties are bound or neither is.

This is what you said on site: How we make money

We earn a 5-8% cut from the total amount raised, depending on the stage of funding.

Re:Ask HN: How To Get Users? on Tuesday March 05, 2013 @02:39PM (#5326809)
I've tried this with 6 different Fiverr people using a unique signup code. Not a single user from it. There is no way they are posting these flyers in 50 locations per the ad on Fiverr. They threw up a couple on bulletin boards flooded with flyers.
