Re:Facebook now charging to post more than 2 links a month on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @06:45PM (#50173713)
People put the link in the comments because Facebook won't let you link to news sites in posts because they can't be posted in certain countries. So, putting the link in the comments was a workaround for that issue.
Semaglutide reduces appetite.

The less appetite you have the less you eat crap. The less crap you eat the healthier you are.

There's a little more to it than that obviously but this is the reason that they're finding all these "unexpected" things improving when people take semaglutide. Most food eaten by most people with access to semaglutide is crap, that makes you unhealthy. Eating less crap improves lots of factors.

But the good news is, eating less crap makes you less unhealthy independent of other factors too.

x86 only on Mac is one of the decisions of all time.

"B-series", huh?

I'm guessing their marketing department isn't known as the "A-team".

I’m curious what causes your hesitation to install a Mac app if you run macOS? I’m not suggesting you’re wrong, just wanting to understand.
Re:Understanding Objective-C by transpiling it to C++ on Saturday December 02, 2023 @03:59PM (#38501991)
I built an app using Cappuccino and Objective-J back around 2010.

We even built an EOF/CoreData clone on top of it. Good times.

It was incredible to work with, but ultimately not very “webby”.

I’d rather have WebObjects back. It should have never died.

In 1994 i was on a flight from Edmonton to Vancouver, and in the absolute final seconds of approach during landing it took off again as straight up as I can imagine a passenger jet going.

After a while the pilot said they just missed a plane on the runway that shouldn’t have been there. He just had to take a while to gather himself after the ordeal before talking to us.

We circled for about 40 mins before landing again.

Re:Apple Unveils MacBook Pro Featuring M2 Pro and M2 Max on Tuesday January 17, 2023 @12:11PM (#34415202)
It is if you're using Safari. I have two M1 Max MBPs. My personal machine runs Chrome, and my work machine runs Safari. I can run my work machine for well over a day doing iOS development in Xcode with an external monitor attached and not run out of battery. The personal machine will last almost all day (without a monitor attached) but not quite. I'm sure if I used Safari it would last much longer.
Is there some special kind of user on HN that has downvote buttons, or am I the special kind of user on HN that only has upvote buttons?

I just asked you.com that and it said:

I mean sure it runs Windows binaries on Linux, but calling it fake is a bit harsh.
Re:LG 28-inch 16:18 DualUp Monitor on Saturday July 09, 2022 @02:00PM (#32037661)
It’s one panel. I have this monitor.
Re:LG 28-inch 16:18 DualUp Monitor on Saturday July 09, 2022 @01:39PM (#32037462)
I received one last week. Works great on my M1 MBP. I have a 16:9 monitor above the MBP and the LG to the right of it, but now I want to get a keyboard, trackpad and webcam so I can swap the positions of the monitors and have the LG as my main monitor.

My only complaint is it’s not as wide as a 27” monitor despite having the same resolution as Thunderbolt Displays / 27” iMacs. So the pixels are smaller. The width is closer to a 24” 16:9.

But I love the stand, and everything else about it.

I'd really like to see someone write "The unsurprising resurgence of Dungeons of Dragons".

The first sentence is "Sorry, I have to disagree with the entire premise here."

What entire premise? What is this in response to?

Re:Our company’s remote work system failed on Wednesday February 15, 2017 @01:16AM (#13650121)
More documentation and more communication is a good thing.

How much management does it take to run an office? "Office Managers" are a thing. They aren't even managing projects.

I don't yet understand how remote work can be as expensive as colocating - perhaps in an extreme circumstance? Surely not in general. Perhaps if you're having your remote people travel several times a year to meet up, but that's optional and depending on the area of the world the office would be, it could still be cheaper than the travel.

Of course you still need to manage people, but in my experience it doesn't take more management, just more discipline. If your people aren't disciplined enough to care about documentation or process or communication, you are throwing your company away.

Re:Our company’s remote work system failed on Tuesday February 14, 2017 @11:21PM (#13649663)
As they say in the analytics world: "sample size".

One person's experience is not a compelling argument against remote work. Thanks for sharing though!

At 1:00 of the video, he says "In my document I want to make a sentence bold, so I just select it, and then just click..."

But he doesn't explain HOW he selected the text. Since there's no mouse cursor, I have no idea how he just did that. A glance doesn't seem to be sufficient since it requires movement and intent.
