Sad.
Re:Where did software quality go? on Monday January 02, 2012 @07:54PM (#3418127)
I've seen quite a few examples from both sides of the coin, though when it's going bad there are some very common themes that keep coming up.

I don't think it will ever be achieved industry wide, that would be akin to all cars being BMWs. But for those people who want to build quality things, there are tried and tested ways of doing it.

Yay for us :)
Re:Hiring Developers: You're Doing It Wrong on Wednesday March 30, 2011 @10:37AM (#2387392)
Couldn't agree more.

The focus that the short sighted interviewers and companies have on how fast your can solve some pointless algorithm that a CS has figured out 30 years ago, vs how you get on with the team I find mind boggling.

There must be loads surely, lots of people are talking about the hiring frenzy!
Re:Ask HN: Is this where I use a CMS? on Tuesday December 14, 2010 @07:05PM (#2006350)
No point rolling your own user management and session handling, let alone user groups and permissions.

I'd go frame work over CMS personally.

Re:Top improvements for PHP developers on Tuesday November 30, 2010 @02:25AM (#1953438)
Indeed, most of the time I use codeigniter, though I was focusing on "where" you do the logic, opposed to just how.
Re:Top improvements for PHP developers on Monday November 29, 2010 @01:43AM (#1949601)
One of the PHP devs who is also at Facebook suggested I do it that way, so I don't worry too much either!
Re:Ask HN: Working on Startup projects at night and weekends on Saturday November 27, 2010 @08:30PM (#1946368)
Personally I left and went for it 100%, then I'm 100% committed to getting it done, and don't have the fall back excuse or mentality of the "day job".
