First year associates at the law firm I use charge over $500/hr. Senior lawyers/partner cost well over $1,200/hour in 2021 at many of the largest / most successful firms now.
Re:Stripe Atlas: the first five years and 20k startups on Thursday July 01, 2021 @01:16PM (#27701591)
Have you started offering foreign owned LLC's again via Atlas? The last time I checked this wasn't possible sadly.
What bank options/introductions are available?

Are you providing introductions to first tier banks via connections (Chase, BoFA, etc) or is it simply to something such as Mercury?

Starling is neat except you need to request a special exemption from them for EVERY payment you send over £25,000.

Only takes them an hour or so to approve it for you, but it gets pretty old having to do it 3-5x per week.

I miss those days ;)
It's probably a safe assumption that they use a similar style elsewhere though, so probably better to just change PHP version rather than edit the source files?

I could be wrong, (I'm a Python guy - not PHP), just seems a safe assumption that it's likely not the only spot.

I agree, getting that initial user base is always tricky. After that, things kinda perpetually keep themselves going.

Especially when you're likely talking about interesting topics / questions people google for. It seems in recent years that going has favored articles over forum topics in their results, but I'm sure there's still plenty of search traffic that goes to forums to bring in new users.

Cool idea. HN can get a little annoying / slightly unwieldy when threads get large. A forum is a much better format IMO.

They're very useful in large scale web crawling/scraping. I use them for a number of things in this field.
People who bought tickets?
Scrapy. 100%.
From personal experience I can actually say scraping Facebook, although not trivial, is also not as difficult as you would likely expect, and their rate-limiting is pretty lenient.

IP's/Accounts are very easily to come by these days.

Re:Disclosing the Primary Email address for each Facebook user on Thursday December 22, 2016 @03:09AM (#13235740)
This bug could have been used to make so much money.

1. Find a group on Facebook of users you're interested in.

2. Do this bug to get all of their emails.

3. Building a lookalike audience from these emails.

Goldmine.

Re:Serverless Comparison: Zappa vs. Chalice on Friday December 02, 2016 @11:55AM (#13090204)
I haven't used Zappa yet, but came across it the other day.

I'd just like to say that it looks an exceptionally well built and thought out project. I will be using it in the future for sure.

After launching several SaaS with a $1 trial and such, this also happens there.
This is a super cool product. Good job.
Re:Show HN: Instant – Optimizely for CMS on Monday August 29, 2016 @03:48AM (#12380604)
I'm confused as to how this can be compared to optimizely which is an incredibly powerful A/B testing platform. This doesn't seem to handle A/B testing at all?

It's essentially a HTML WYSIWYG editor (unless I'm missing something).

They launched this yesterday in San Diego also. I signed up.

Not wanting to thread hijack, but just going to post an article I wrote a few years back as it covers a few other things that are still relevant; and often still gets referenced. May it'll help some people out in combination with OP's post.

I see no mention of pricing?
Re:Break my heart – built a marketing SaaS on Wednesday August 10, 2016 @07:02PM (#12265304)
How many influencers do you have on your platform / what kind of variety?

The reason I'm asking is I've been on calls with probably 20+ PR agencies and a similar number of brands doing influencer marketing in the past 6 months, and their #1 issue right now is they can't get the right people. Most of the existing influencer platforms have the same influencers, or just not a big enough variety. If you want to advertise a new bikini on a swimwear model; you're fine. Want to launch a new soft drink? They're struggling with the existing platforms.

We're trying to solve this, we're not quite launching yet (probably in the next few weeks), but we're trying to solve this. We currently have just over 1.4M Instagram users along with their email contact information.

PS: Your pricing is way too low. By a factor of 10-50x probably.
