The Parakeet V3 model is really great!

Re:Midjourney web experience is now open to everyone on Wednesday August 21, 2024 @03:35PM (#41313437)
What the really need is user management, so big corps can adopt it. Currently with the user self-service it‘s a no-go.
This looks great and the self hosting instructions are fine too. But I think the Apps don‘t support using your own server yet, right?
Re:Show HN: The most beautiful ABAP report on Sunday January 14, 2024 @02:12PM (#38993427)
Instead of using a main FORM, you could use a main method. The advantage of that is, that the ABAP compiler prohibits certain obsolete statements in a class context, so you are not only avoiding the already obsolete FORMS, but you are also securing your coding from any other obsolete statements.
Re:Show HN: The most beautiful ABAP report on Saturday January 13, 2024 @04:23AM (#38978394)
This a great post of something every SAP developer has to write down for himself at some point.

One thing I would note though, is that FORMS are deprecated and shouldn‘t be used, so removing them from your personal template is good idea.

Apart from that: Great job!

Re:Arc browser launches its Windows client in beta on Wednesday December 13, 2023 @08:18AM (#38626867)
According their site https://www.isarconwindowsyet.com/ they currently onboarded 7 users at this point. Hardly worth the news, I think.

I made https://www.seriescharts.com/ to keep track of new and interesting tv series.

That sounds way less dramatic as the headline makes it out to be.

Re:A new architecture for publishing web content to desktop on Wednesday September 27, 2023 @02:05AM (#37670777)
The arguments against rust in this case seem weak and it becomes even stranger when they decided to follow the exact same approach as tauri, just implementing it themselves (and therefor not profiting from all the work the tauri team has already done). Maybe they should have done a bit research and would have arrived at tauri as their logical conclusion or maybe I‘m missing something in their argumentation.
Re:Fresh evidence of ChatGPT’s political bias on Thursday August 17, 2023 @04:35PM (#37167631)
I‘m skeptical of the study as well, but the way you frame it, it reads like ChatGPT would just reflect the raw internet opinion, which certainly isn‘t the case. There are steps of fine-tuning, expert systems and RLHF in between, that can and most likely do influence the output.
Until you require pytorch ;)
Re:100% Open Source CS:Go on Saturday June 03, 2023 @11:39AM (#36177523)
This world view is quite perplexing, to be frank. On one hand, he urges potential users to switch to Linux, emphasizing its cost-free nature and the freedom it offers in terms of code and game direction. However, on the other hand, the code being used is stolen and leaked, thus infringing on the original creator's copyright. Additionally, the repository's license claims that all contributions are considered public domain, which adds to the oddity of the situation. Since there is no legitimate license permitting the existence of this code, it is even more peculiar that a custom license is being invented, allowing contributions to this clearly stolen source code to be considered public domain.
Re:GitHub Copilot X: The AI-powered developer experience on Wednesday March 22, 2023 @11:47AM (#35262891)
So wait, is the switch to GPT4 done now or will it be done with Copilot X? The wording seems unclear to me
how did it go?
This seems like a great first step to a truly open source LLM
Re:The Heart of ChatGPT's Darkness on Monday February 13, 2023 @04:50PM (#34781201)
Some of the "observations" he quotes are most likely made up, I think. Especially the one by Roman Semenov does seem odd to me. Either way, reproducibility is a problem with these "jail-breaks" and until we have a LLM, where we can pass a token and get these reproducibile results, I would take all these articles about the "dark side of LLMs" with a grain of salt.

The merchant in this analogy is OpenAI not ChatGPT. ChatGPT is the sword.

Re:Bitwarden Acquires Passwordless.dev on Wednesday January 18, 2023 @10:27AM (#34427803)
Slightly offtopic, but I really find the Bitwarden Clients to be lacking in the feature department. I switched to Bitwarden a few month ago and the client has evolved (for me) ever since.

There are a few basic features missing, such as that if I search for something I wrote in the notes of password, that the client shows the according password. I get that the open-source model implies that everyone can contribute and fix this issue, but if I look at the repo and see 108 open PRs, I don't even bother to check if that's a feature that would be easy to add.

I can only second that. Sounds exactly what OP is looking for.

Re:Lufthansa has NOT banned AirTags on Saturday October 08, 2022 @03:35PM (#33135290)
Except they have.

A Lufthansa spokesperson has clarified the new rules for the German news site watson: https://www.watson.de/leben/urlaub%20&%20freizeit/879935671-...

It rougly translate to: The device itself is not banned, but has to be shut off during flight. In practice this would mean that you would have to remove the battery from the airtag, since there is no powerswitch.

But I will admit that this seems odd and I think it won't be the last time we've heard about it.

They had do-not-track for ages. It was the choice of the cookie banner devs to not respect that flag.
