Re: on Saturday October 31, 2026 @02:43AM (#50313789)
flagged is different from uninteresting. gruber indulging conspiracies before considering that he might be uninteresting outside his audience is pretty travis bickle-y. i am asking why a phone hack concerning a major political figure would be irrelevant or uninteresting to hn.

righteous seller
Re: on Saturday October 31, 2026 @01:28AM (#50313455)
well, not necessarily you, but you did attempt to explain why yet left out the meat of my question
Re: on Saturday October 31, 2026 @01:25AM (#50313440)
oh i left that out so people would start commenting. thanks.

but why did they flag it?

Re:Trouble finding a motivated co-founder on Saturday October 31, 2026 @01:23AM (#50313434)
seems about right. you're doing fine. cofounders require crystal clear skills and/or high trust. otherwise they become a negative. ugc can be many things. i am curious what type of content.
WHY IS THIS FLAGGED?

you brought the all caps outta me

Re:Tiny Little Office on Thursday October 15, 2026 @12:00AM (#50098970)
it's a fair criticism though. learning and eventually relying on new tools is an investment. it helps to know the developer is invested too, not just moonlighting.

Re:The 15-year search for a band that charted once and vanished on Thursday October 08, 2026 @04:26AM (#50003218)
“return to innocence” by enigma

mesmerized by it growing up, could only recall the native american-sounding chanting. googled “hey yah heyyyyyyy” and found the answer on reddit. turns out it samples/infringes an indigenous taiwanese (amis) chant.

Yes, but being a failed dreamer doesn’t entitle you to lie forever.
Re:The cost of lies: A Mineserver story on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @01:27AM (#49988608)
Ouch. Thank you for sharing this story. I am stunned but weirdly unsurprised. I encountered several people like this version of Bob in silicon valley. Some of them reached huge liquidity events and that bought them enough credibility that they’re still finessing people decades later. Completely agree with one of the comments under Jeremy’s post:

I guess I got fooled by Cringely back in the old days. His journalistic work with Triumph of the Nerds was great, but only because of the subject matter and the people being interviewed. Whenever the topic veered to Cringely himself (which happened more than it should have) the work suffered.

i started using bluesky recently and the venting seemed about normal by internet standards

why must it always be hard

Well said
Re:Bob Cringely Has Died on Saturday October 03, 2026 @10:24PM (#49950015)
Huge influence on my youth. He seemed like the inconvenient insider of 90s Silicon Valley. Like a PBS-trained version of pud.

anyone not on ios 27 — i can recommend an app called “offline cards.” straightforward, clean way to add physical cards to ios wallet.
Re:Mike Tomlin spent 12 years building a Minecraft city on Friday October 02, 2026 @04:22PM (#49938147)
i’d lose myself in a creative world if i lead a team that demands excellence without a franchise quarterback. imagine how many meetings this man endured in lieu of a capable qb.

but it is cool how mike’s minecraft story follows a familiar arc for anyone raising kids after 2009, and learning about his interests in architecture and urbanism.

meanwhile, free-to-play gaming's business model is to speedrun through the population via ads to find the most mentally unwell or underdeveloped people with access to credit cards or at least grandmothers who will buy them gift cards
