honestly the slack app store and it’s ridiculous policies makes publishing apps completely unworthy of the time investment. after having published numerous apps across dozens of marketplaces, I would advise everyone to avoid apps.slack.com at all costs. slack is beyond the maximum bloat threshold in virtually every aspect imaginable, TOS and licensing most especially. build elsewhere

uhh quite the opposite, this is made by Flipper https://flipperdevices.com/
This is maybe more of a semantic disagreement, but I would expect the frontline manager, not middle management, to be the first in management to shrink in population on account of AI. If software and AI is to be made more responsible for managing the hourly worker, then naturally your frontline manager should be capable of managing more humans at once, thereby reducing the company's need for frontline managers. As a result, managers can be made responsible for more people at once, teams can be larger, and fewer frontline managers being needed.

However, claiming that management will be affected "before" the hourly employee is an invalid prediction in today's age. The hourly employee has already been disproportionately affected by AI, some even made obsolete by robots or automation. Retail (especially brick & mortar) has already seen many of those jobs be replaced by much less sophisticated advancements (ecommerce, d2c, etc), arguing to the contrary would be impossible to back up at this point.

Pathlight, Inc. | https://www.pathlight.com/ | Full-stack, Mobile, SRE, Design | Remote US/Canada or Onsite San Francisco/Toronto

Pathlight's goal can be simply stated as putting a world-class manager into everyone's pocket. Managing teams of people is a hard job and software should be here to help, but for most modern teams, a combination of spreadsheets and dozens of browser tabs full of charts and tables is still the de-facto solution. Pathlight aims to replace this archaic system of metric management with one that is centralized, made real-time and transparent to all. The same set of tools we set out to be build specifically for managers is now proving useful at all levels of the organization. Especially so for the underserved frontline, who is ultimately the most capable of improving one's performance.

We've recently closed our Series B and are growing at a very fast pace. This is a rare opportunity to join a small team of exceptionally talented engineers on a team with vast amounts of green field, where you're able to play an influential role in the growth and success of a category creating product.

We are hiring for multiple positions, including: - Senior Full-stack Engineers (Python/Django/React) - Full-stack Engineers (Python/Django/React) - Senior SRE (Python/AWS/Postgres) - Android Software Engineer (Kotlin/React-native) - iOS Software Engineer (Swift/React-native) - Product Design Lead (Figma)

You can view all of our job openings and apply at https://www.pathlight.com/careers

Pathlight | Software Engineers | SF | full-time | onsite | https://pathlight.com

Pathlight (pathlight.com) was founded by two entrepreneurs who wanted to tackle a challenging and unsolved problem: managing people every day is really hard and no one has built software to help. After selling their last company to Yelp, they started noticing that managers in every department were struggling, regardless of how experienced they were. Engineering managers weren't able to flag, diagnose, and manage anomalous behavior. Sales and Customer Service managers had 20 tabs open in their browser just to figure out was going on. Every single one of them was reinventing the wheel and their teams were suffering because of it. After all, who hasn't had a bad or stressed or too busy manager?

Trey and Alex realized that, for the first time, there's enough data available for software to help intelligently manage people. The idea for Pathlight was born.

We're at this exciting inflection point – we've shipped product, have users that love us, and have just raised our Series A from a Top VC, but the team is still super small, with a lot of opportunity for ownership and leadership. Joining Pathlight now means becoming part of the founding team of engineers, each of whom will have a massive impact on the product, platform, engineering culture, and company itself.

Front-End: React, Redux

Back-End: Python, Django, PostgreSQL, Docker, AWS

We're pragmatic about using the right tool for the task at hand.

Pathlight (https://www.pathlight.com/) | San Francisco, CA | Full-time | Onsite

Managing a team of people is no easy task (as any pointy-haired boss will make sure to let you know). Managing an organization of hundreds or thousands of people is several orders of magnitude more difficult. Strategy is often impossible to orchestrate, implementing any amount of change happens at a glacial pace. Keeping an organization on the same path becomes a near-impossible task. Pathlight offers up a solution to this monumental problem through what we call management automation.

Pros:

  - Green field development
  - Real world problems. The kind that companies pay $100K+ to solve
  - Experienced founders. This is our 2nd startup - our first was acquired in 2013
  - Well-funded and well-run. Series A, low burn. Capital efficiency is important to us
  - Product market fit. Companies already using it every day
Cons:

  - Very early. Very uncertain
  - We’re not going to match your offer from Facebook
  - No free lunches, gym memberships, massages, etc. But, we do have several flavors of La Croix
  - We play Yacht Rock on Fridays

Our top priority is in finding a Lead Data Engineer, if this sounds anything like you, I'd love to hear from you:

  - Have experience with data pipelining, warehousing, ETL (bonus: Presto, Spark, Redshift)
  - Not shy of SQL (bonus: PostgresQL, Hive)
  - Proficient in Python (bonus: Django, Celery)
  - Have experience modelling data (bonus: sklearn, numpy, pandas)
We are also looking for Full-Stack Engineers, Product Managers, Designers, and more. To apply, visit https://www.pathlight.com/careers/ for more information or email careers[at]pathight.com

Pathlight is the first platform dedicated to helping sales managers. These managers are critical to any organization’s success (and revenue), but are stuck with using whiteboards, email, and spreadsheets to do this vital job.

Sales managers use Pathlight every day because it helps them control their team's pipeline, productivity, and development like they've been doing it for 20+ years.

We’re looking for hungry and talented full-stack engineers to help us.

Pros:

  - Green field development. An opportunity to build things from scratch and own large parts of the stack.
  - Real world problems. The kind that companies pay $100K+ to solve.
  - Experienced founders. This is our 2nd startup - our first was acquired in 2013.
  - Well-funded and well-run. Series A, low burn. Capital efficiency is important to us.

Cons:

  - Very early. Very uncertain.
  - We’re not going to match your offer from Facebook
  - No free lunches, gym memberships, massages, etc.
  - We play Yacht Rock on Fridays.

Our application pulls from a customer’s existing CRM and uses a whole mess of buzz-words to perform our magic (cue shameless buzzword dump):

  - Python/Django (Python3, Celery)
  - Machine learning (scikit-learn, numpy)
  - Thick frontend client (ES6/Babel/React/Mobx)

Re:Taking PHP Seriously on Thursday October 13, 2016 @06:12PM (#12704522)
TLDR; Because Cal Henderson made the initial commit.

He's obviously a big fan of the language, and surely had a big hand in influencing what technology would be chosen very early on.

PHP can be like playing with dynamite. If you have an explosives expert on site (or Cal Henderson), you can get a helluva lot done with PHP in a very short amount of time.

You have a prejudice against Silicon Valley / California.

Aside from that, I think one key point you failed to observe is that the engineers are often the biggest producer of innovation and invention in the production process. Software engineering is not manual labor, instead a heightened level of mental focus and ingenuity is required to perform the job.

I think I might have a prejudice against manual labor.

Boy, has HN grown. I would have never imagined seeing another Clayton native here!
While I'm aware of what you're implying by "hackable," that word has horrible connotations when it comes to browsers. I would never want to describe my browser as "hackable." If I were you, I'd consider using a different adjective. Best of luck with the project!
Re:CoffeeScript 1.3.0 is out on Tuesday April 10, 2012 @05:46PM (#3824617)
"CoffeeScript now prints a Generated by CoffeeScript VERSION header at the top of each compiled file."

From what I can tell there's no switch to optionally disable this? I can see how it could be useful to keep unaware developers from making js changes in compiled files, but other than that, what other purpose does this serve?

not sure if any of the Nebula guys are lurking about, but if they are, you have a broken link on your "Learn more" button to nebula.com/product (/product/ works fine)

Might wanna check your urls.py so that slashes are automatically appended for this particular pattern :)

There is a startup out of Raleigh, NC that's trying to solve this exact problem.

deja Mi has built an iPhone app that allows you to capture media and upload it to a collection of media assigned to the specific venue or event you're attending. You can hear the spiel straight from the horse's mouth here: http://www.mycarolinatoday.com/2011/07/deja-mi/

On a side note, for those local to the Triangle, NC there's going to be free concerts throughout the weekend in downtown Raleigh to kick off the release of their app. The lineup of musicians is very impressive, go check it out if you're able. More details: http://dejami.com/dejafest

I assume that your using http://html5boilerplate.com/ to some extent, along with the default favicon and icon.png that it ships with. I'd recommend replacing that with an original icon or at least one that's less identifiable. Great project nonetheless.

Also, view-source a Flickr photo page. You can find some uses of RDFa and the Dublin Core vocab there.
