Re:ChatGPT Pro 20x plan is now unavailable for purchase on Thursday September 10, 2026 @03:46PM (#49649261)
Yeah. Pure speculation, but I would not be surprised if Anthropic jumps on this opportunity to nerf their 20x plan soon as well. Would probably be the best time do it to minimize the public backlash since OpenAI took the lead on it.
Absolutely. Running NixOS is a wonderful experience for this reason. NixOS + LLMs make it a breeze to make changes to your system, install and configure new software, and debug issues. Having every aspect of your system defined in a git repo is the perfect fit for agent harnesses.

I'll admit, even with LLMs to help, the Nix language and NixOS did have a rather steep learning curve, because it's quite different from anything I'd experienced before. But after getting the hang of it, I can't imagine going back to a "normal" OS and I'm very happy I put in the time to get over the initial friction.

Re:Free Textbook on Engineering Thermodynamics on Monday April 27, 2026 @06:07AM (#47919689)
Since you mention VAEs: you might be interested in Active Inference, which is built on minimizing variational free energy. Same E−TS form as the thermodynamic kind (Helmholtz free energy), so it does fit your thermo/info/NN question. And the negative free energy is equivalent to the evidence lower bound used in generative models like VAEs. Lots of really fascinating connections between all of these topics :)

There's a free 2022 textbook: https://direct.mit.edu/books/oa-monograph/5299/Active-Infere...

And a brand new one (though it's a bit pricey): https://mitpress.mit.edu/9780262050951/fundamentals-of-activ...

I received it too. I wonder if they sent this to all pro/max subscribers or only those who they’ve flagged as having used a third party harness.

Might be interested in https://github.com/shytikov/pragmasevka which is my current go-to font.
Kagi is doing something similar to this, though it's not trying to remove absolutely all AI, just "slop": https://help.kagi.com/kagi/features/slopstop.html
Re:Lua 5.5.0 Released on Tuesday December 23, 2025 @08:01PM (#46371298)
Global-by-default scoping was one of Lua's largest mistakes. I wish they'd fix it, but of course it would break backwards compat.
Re:The weirdest tool I own is also one of the most useful on Saturday November 29, 2025 @02:42AM (#46085789)
The link to the Amazon product looks like a non-affiliate link when you hover over it. But if you click, as soon as the mousedown event fires, they swap in an affiliate link. How rude!
Re:AirPods Libreated from Apple's Ecosystem on Sunday November 16, 2025 @05:09AM (#45943965)
This is awesome on Linux. I've wanted to see my battery status forever, and the ability to pause when you remove an AirPod is really nice too.

This is cool! Please add a dark theme and respect `prefers-color-scheme: dark` :)

nvidia GPU for me with hardware acceleration enabled (required some command-line flags passed to chrome to get it working on wayland):

    google-chrome-stable --enable-gpu --ozone-platform=wayland --enable-features=UseOzonePlatform,WaylandLinuxDrmSyncobj
Re:Show HN: Sculptor, the Missing UI for Claude Code on Tuesday September 30, 2025 @01:14PM (#45428227)
I'm also unable to load it in chrome on linux (wayland backend). Seems like some sort of GPU issue.

I agree with this. But do you have any resources on "thinking with portals"? It's easier said than done.
Re:Libghostty Is Coming on Tuesday September 23, 2025 @01:47PM (#45350446)
Super exciting. I hope to be able to embed a Ghostty-backed terminal into my Rust app in the future. Amazing work as always, Mitchell!
Re:CVC acquires majority stake in Namecheap for $1.5B on Sunday September 14, 2025 @05:40PM (#45243487)
Private equity seems to be a form of cancer that slowly sucks the life out of everything it touches, with a single goal: to grow and spread. Can someone more knowledgeable please explain to me why I'm wrong?
Re:Bitrig (YC S25) – Build Swift Apps on Your iPhone on Wednesday August 27, 2025 @01:19PM (#45042377)
Very cool! Was it difficult to get Bitrig approved on the App Store? If I had to guess just based on the idea, it seems like the sort of thing Apple would take issue with.
Re:uv Running a Script with Dependencies on Tuesday July 22, 2025 @01:42AM (#44643565)
I really love this and I've been using it a lot. The one thing I'm unsure about is the best way to get my LSP working with inline dependencies.

Usually, when I use uv along with a pyproject.toml, I'll activate the venv before starting neovim, and then my LSP (basedpyright) is aware of the dependencies and it all just works. But with inline dependencies, I'm not sure what the best way to do this is.

I usually end up just manually creating a venv with the dependencies so I can edit inside of it, but then I run the script using the shebang/inline dependencies when I'm done developing it.

My first exposure to XSLT was sketchers.com: https://thedailywtf.com/articles/Sketchy-Skecherscom

Sadly it doesn't seem like they're using it anymore.

Unless you buy on Amazon, in which case products from reputable brands are co-mingled with third-party FBA sellers' inventory, which may include counterfeits.
Is this by chance inspired by the one handed keyboard from Children of Men?

One of my favorite scenes, by the way.

Are there any glasses/headsets out there that are good for coding yet? The idea of working on the go with VR glasses is very appealing to me.
