The US doesn’t, and has never, elected their president on the popular vote
Re:Actually, Democracy Dies in H.R. on Monday May 18, 2026 @11:49AM (#48181446)
Actual insane projection from a communist loser
4. Just do your job and don’t listen to screeching harpies in the HN comments
Re:Ask HN: Is discrimination to promote diversity okay? on Friday November 26, 2021 @04:31PM (#29354330)
Why is this flagged?
If you live in CA this is because they have a law requiring this.
Of course, it was all just a coincidence

“Just build your own hosting platform”
Re:Amazon, Apple and Google Cut Off Parler on Saturday January 09, 2021 @08:08PM (#25707141)
Thats okay, they can just build their own network, hosting, payment processor, and app store. Totally not censorship.
Re:ACLU Counsel Warns of 'Unchecked Power' of Twitter, Facebook on Saturday January 09, 2021 @02:26PM (#25703671)
Pretty interesting how the ACLU becomes an enemy when they go after the employers of a sizable chunk of the users on this website.
Not sure why you are being downvoted. This is absolutely the case. We’ve replaced evangelical christians with social justice mobs.
Re:Gimp 2.10.20 on Thursday June 11, 2020 @01:36PM (#23491252)
I had basically this exact experience with GIMP, truly life-changing software for me.
I feel like hardware problems on Macs are overblown, especially compared to the alternatives.

I also don’t understand the idea that MacOS has been regressing, it seems like a weird hivemind take around here lately.

You're being downvoted, but I agree. In the information age public school teaching is a glorified jobs program.
TLJ is an objectively bad movie, politics and nostalgia aside. It’s absolutely littered with plot problems.

The title of this article is breaking HN formatting on mobile.
Re:The Californian Ideology (1995) on Saturday December 23, 2017 @01:14PM (#15995410)
What the fuck are you talking about? Have you looked at the markets recently? What recession?

I’m a millennial and i don’t feel like I was affected by the recession in the slightest. No millennial is locked into self employment, unemployment is at like 4.5%, the job market is doing fantastic. All this doom and gloom and “poor me” is fucking ridiculous.

Re:The Google-Facebook Duopoly Threatens Diversity of Thought on Tuesday December 19, 2017 @02:36PM (#15963383)
Agreed, it's just weird to think how much that mindset has infiltrated the HN. This place is supposed to be populated by engineers with critical thinking skills, yet any criticism of these large corporations is met with censorship via down votes.

Really makes you think..

Re:The Google-Facebook Duopoly Threatens Diversity of Thought on Tuesday December 19, 2017 @02:23PM (#15963240)
I don't know what my comment has to do with libertarianism, or why it's being down voted. I was simply mocking the blatant corporate bootlicking, and the branding of all criticism as evil right wing attacks.
Re:The Google-Facebook Duopoly Threatens Diversity of Thought on Tuesday December 19, 2017 @02:05PM (#15963024)
"Remember kids, any criticism of Google censorship is right wing nazi propaganda. This message brought to you by Google."
Re:Stuff You Can't Say in Silicon Valley on Saturday December 16, 2017 @06:24PM (#15942872)
Obviously it's appropriate to remove the citations from someone's work then, right? No bias there :^)
Re:Stuff You Can't Say in Silicon Valley on Friday December 15, 2017 @10:39PM (#15937358)
Title could just as well be: Things you can't say on HN without being censored by an archaic down voting system.
Re:Stuff You Can't Say in Silicon Valley on Friday December 15, 2017 @10:36PM (#15937339)
I'd argue that popular society has an increasing false positive rate when detecting dogwhistles, and that the problem is exacerbated by increasingly partisan politics.
Re:Stuff You Can't Say in Silicon Valley on Friday December 15, 2017 @10:33PM (#15937318)
"Valid examples of hypocrisy are whataboutism"
Re:Stuff You Can't Say in Silicon Valley on Friday December 15, 2017 @10:30PM (#15937298)
You should actually read the multi-page article. And not the version hacked apart by tech "journalists" to remove the citations.
Re:Stuff You Can't Say in Silicon Valley on Friday December 15, 2017 @10:28PM (#15937278)
I'd say most liberal metro areas, with slightly more leniency in the midwest. I imagine it's worst in SF/SV, but that's just my subjective view based on a few visits.
Hmm, i haven't noticed that. I didn't;t like he first generation of the "butterfly" switch, but i really like the second gen ones on mine

and yeah, the touchpad is honestly amazing. I can't go back the the old smaller one, which was already better than anything else on the market.

I just use AirPods or a set of over-ear sennheisers, but that's unrelated to the USB-C's since there's a headphone jack.

I really like the transfer speed of the USB-C ports, I've spent maybe $70 on new cables (usb-c -> DisplayPort, a usb-c/usb flash drive, and a USB-C -> lightning and 1 or 2 others). The only thing that really bothers me about the IO is that the iPhone still uses lighting, i think it should adopt USB-C as well for consistency. Otherwise i have no gripes about the IO, I think USB-C will see heavy adoption in the coming months/years and honestly i think wireless is continuing to make hardware IO irrelevant in my life.

Other gripes i have are the slightly reduced battery life and the removal of magsafe, but i think the nice screen and the form factor make up for it.

I'm a relative newcomer to the apple ecosystem (first iPhone an MacBook in 2014) so i have no real opinion on the mac pro, except that it is likely overpriced for my workload, I'm unlikely to want a desktop mac outside of the one i use at work.

Edit: for clarification i have the 2017 13 inch model with toucbar.

So do I. Not sure why people dislike it so much.
Sounds like Apple computers just aren't for you then and you should switch to some other hardware.

Personally I love my 2017 MBP, the keyboard, trackpad, and USB-C ports.
