Kinda surprised SF would be the cheapest considering it's proximity to Silicon Valley.
Re:The Netherlands Will Never Be Rid of Louisiana Crawfish on Saturday September 05, 2026 @09:43PM (#49582544)
I was just reading a similar story about France being overrun by blue crabs, and another about Florida being overrun by lionfish.
I like it, it's fun!
That is a cool design.
Can't help thinking that's going to be really thick and unwieldy when the screen is folded over the keyboard.

Dammit I left my acoustic coupler at home.
Re:I Think the Military Commissary's Freezers Were Hacked on Monday August 31, 2026 @02:15PM (#49512897)
My only question is, why would all refrigeration be under the remote control of DECA? That seems unnecessarily complicated.
Interesting, I've never seen even one show up in my feed (yet). Japanese daily life vloggers, yes but that's expected considering my past proclivities.
Re:Newly Invented Pixel Could Turn Screens into Cameras on Sunday August 30, 2026 @11:40AM (#49499663)
One step closer to telescreens becoming a reality.
Keyword there being 'had'?

Im surprised they let it run for 2 years. Still not going back to X though.
Re:"No Disc, No Buy" Is Bigger Than Sony Expected on Friday August 21, 2026 @02:15PM (#49391918)
Did they learn nothing from the shit storm that MS set off when they tried this with the Xbox years ago?
Scrapping a working gas car for mass transit is even greener.
Re:Pentagon order US universities to Cut Chinese or else on Monday August 17, 2026 @01:54PM (#49334989)
The Red Scare is in full swing.
Re:Ask HN: What physical publication do you still buy? on Friday August 14, 2026 @11:08PM (#49307228)
I subscribe to Wired, American Chess, and Architectural Digest. I had a sub to Raspberry Pi Magazine, but now I just read the free PDF version.
Interesting! Hadn't even considered that.
I was just grocery shopping yesterday (Philly) and there seemed to be no lack of the low quality sardines I normally see on the shelves every week? There are no "empty shelves" that I have seen in the two stores I normally shop at.
Re:Long Story Short: Daily word game on Thursday August 13, 2026 @08:28AM (#49284917)
It's a fun game but seems pretty easy? I've finished every puzzle in two guesses.
Unless I'm missing something, seems kind of short-sighted to not keep a local copy of the schedule just for this very situation?

In fact, why would you even design it like this to begin with? It's not like a pet feeding schedule is dynamic data that changes every day. Makes no sense.

Re:Confessions of a Long-Distance Sailor on Tuesday August 11, 2026 @08:14PM (#49266257)
Thank you very much! I appreciate the free book, and I love reading about sailing.
Re:The End of Reading Is Here on Tuesday August 11, 2026 @06:55AM (#49256187)
The thing that intrigues me is that while fewer people are reading, more books than ever are being written.

The total number of new books published in the U.S. in 2025 jumped 32.5% over 2024, to more than four million books.

That's a real shame. He was also an excellent musician, too. I remember buying his first album on CD back in the 80s called Strange Cargo and it quickly became one of my favorites.
Re:Play PICO-8 on your Apple Watch on Friday August 07, 2026 @06:56PM (#49217222)
Unless I'm missing something, this might be a neat trick but I can't imagine actually playing a game on that tiny screen with microscopic controls?
Re:I'm excited for Intel after testing the XPS 13 on Friday August 07, 2026 @06:45PM (#49217138)
Did not expect the Neo to drive competition this fast, but I'm glad to see it. Kind of a bonehead move by Dell to leave out the headphone jack though.
Re:Almost no skill required to cook a steak on Thursday August 06, 2026 @02:38PM (#49200575)
Sizzler?
Re:The End of Electronic Arts Is at Hand on Thursday August 06, 2026 @02:31PM (#49200498)
That should be a good thing right? Gamers have spent the last 20 years shitting on them so everyone should be ecstatic about it.
