HAL9000Ti

That's already the case with the client hints. The UA string is soon to be deprecated, Chrome has even introduced a number of reductions in the past year.
Looking at the user's reddit history, he was posting about writing his novels already years ago.
This is a chromium feature, not a windows one.

Discord was fined 800k euros just today for keeping deleted account's data for too long among other things, which is something at least.

Re:UA Gotta Be Kidding on Tuesday May 03, 2022 @06:20AM (#31246616)
UA reduction has officially started with Chrome 101: The UA string is not sending the minor version anymore, only 0.0.0.

This is the beginning of the end for the UA string. As more and more UA reductions are deployed, the UA hints will become more useful and eventually depreciate the UA string entirely.

Re:Apple reveals App Store takedown demands by governments on Wednesday July 03, 2019 @06:58AM (#20343184)
I disagree, I think social media and its associated viral communication is one of the best way to fight against an oppressive government.

I don't get it, what have we lost? Having to wait for pictures to load? Surely this is just nostalgia?
I assume that this is in preparation of the upcoming 30th anniversary of the Tiananen massacre, they always make changes to the censorship when a big event is comming up.

For instance for the 2008 olympics many blocked sites were opened up, and conversely they tighten everything up before every National People's Congress elections.

Scott Young is a publicist - his goal is to sell, sell, sell. Completing a world-renowned 4-year curriculum in 1 years time is impossible. (He also admitted to reading the solutions instead of doing the problem sets)

Re:China Bans the Word 'Leica' on Social Media on Sunday April 21, 2019 @05:56PM (#19714808)
Fasinating, I never heard about that one before.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toad_worship_(Chinese_internet...

searching "膜蛤" on baidu.com yields zero results.

Look guys I don't know what's going on with all these China news but as a european who's lived in china several years, a lot of it seems wrong. I was in south China for a year recently and many people had visible tattoos, just as many as west europeans. And nobody cared. At all.

Re:It’s not about how many countries you have been to on Friday March 08, 2019 @06:57AM (#19336801)
I disagree with this comment. I'm way down from middle class and I just got back from a very long trip in a developing country. The experience has changed me from head to toes in ways I wouldn't have conceived. I am so happy that I had was able to change who I was and to deviate from the life that I would have lived if I hadn't gone.

Not everyone who travels does it for "status" (in fact I would say that people who do that are a vocal minority)

Microsoft has a censored search engine live in China right now, where is the backlash against them?

Ask HN: How to keep up with all the great content out there?

I have 4 books still inside their amazon package that I haven't even opened yet, and a spreadsheet that lists the books I want to read with about 70 items in it. I have over 100 tabs opened in firefox right now, mostly great articles and the reddit/HN comments associated with them, along with several hours of video to watch. I have several bookmarks categories filled with research papers saved...

I find it very peculiar that you use "we" when talking about the USA country from 84 years ago, is it just me?

Re:Microsoft confirms Bing is down in China on Thursday January 24, 2019 @03:13PM (#18992463)
It's not a myth, "bing" does means "sick".

It also means other things like "ice", but "sick" is the first thing that comes to mind, and in China this is especially a big deal due to superstitions. Naming things is very important here.

amusing anecdote: I remember a discussion about someone who wanted to name his shop 森林木 (three trees symbol, two trees symbol, one tree symbol) and everyone told him it was a bad idea and it would fail because the trees where getting fewer and fewer and that this name was an omen of bankruptcy, and if anything he should put it in the opposite order. (He ended up choosing a different name entirely)

Bing is a really bad name, even tho this had probably nothing to do with it's relative failure

Late stage capitalism everybody
I think your point is a bit too pedantic, I also don't understand where you're coming from with your "God" comparison..
Source please, and define fluency.

I learned english at 22, german at 25, and mandarin at 28, It took several years of daily studying for each language, but I did it, and I was able to use these languages in professional environments. Plenty of people do it in my experience.
