How about Hacker News music scene?

People meet and play/jam/work/demo new music.

Focus on anything audio/software related that makes music.

Ask HN: Why not target the Russian oligarchs?

If hackers or the international community want to really put the pressure on Russia, it seems they should pressure the people that stand to make the most money from this war/ Putins reign: His backers and cronys. Sanctions normally just hurt the poorer people of a country. The rich and the people in power are usually effected last. Why isn't this the...

Im with you dude. Music has a distinct meaning to me. I like to engage in the story, not consume passively.

Seems like the west is busy at the moment... thats why they let China get their hooks in instead of playing thr same move themselves.

Yes we are almost there, lets get native Linux gaming going! Go steam deck! One day ...
Ok now do the same for all the rest of the minorities. But wait they dont have presidents representing their communities. What you said makes no sense.
The i22 corridor is practically unavoidable if you are traveling west through north alabama, past birmingham.
Re:Is old music killing new music? on Thursday January 20, 2022 @09:27AM (#30009306)
I agree man, the lame banality of pop music is deafening. Songs are produced the same way, use the same build and drop structure and sound the same. Triplets and shitty bass.

Forget complexity or originality, just use the same patterns as the last 10 years.

Modern production can be good some people pull it off, but not without singers who sing in a similar cadence and timbre. People who want to sound like someone else rather than being influenced by other people's sounds.

Out with the new back to tye new-old?

We should start with cattle and livestock in deveolping nations like India. Farmers abuse antibiotics the most.
Ask yourself where and when the Genocide convention applies?

Maybe only to select group of Western states. The UN is toothless, and international justice is just realpolitiks.

How about, the fact you can even argue that free will exists is a demonstration of it.
I see music related tech posted on HN regularly. Is there any place where tech focused people can jam?

Or just a place to find people to play music with online?

Since the pandemic its hard to find people to play free form improvisation with.

Yeah, but there are two completely different circumstances. Europe dosent have to deal with the absolute cluster fuck mess colonialism was. They just took money and resources and moved on.

"Hey broken country do want another million people?"

If the shoe was on the other foot? Gtfo your talking about highly corrupt administations propt up by western interests, that only providing aide for un-repayable loans. Look up what the IMF or World Bank has done and its failures.

Why do you think these people are refuguees?

They are usually running from their own country, they are running from situations from Muslim countries. How can you possibly extrapolate how billions of people would react?

You say muslims, most muslims are in Indonesia, Saudi is hardly representative of most Muslims.

Islam is far less organized or a pancea that you see it as. Muslim countries dont follow the spirit of any Islamic law, except when it suits their needs, Saudi is famous for this.

Its just too easy to paint broad strokes. You mischaracterize the situation to fit your own narrative.

Can we finally state as a fact that Europe is only democratic and fair for its own citizens?

Makes sense people in this world are selfish, and self concerned. I get your prespective but your Dutch way of life isnt even close to being threatened.

Next time you hear in the news about how progressive and equal your country maybe you ahould add that aestrix, then maybe less people will come.

Re:Kazakhstan unrest: Troops ordered to fire without warning on Friday January 07, 2022 @07:32AM (#29838329)
Just cause they are Muslim dosent make them Islamic militants. "For years" implies Chechen forces fighting for independence, which has nothing to do with the West or the US. Russia has crushed any autonomy from any minority, Muslim or otherwise. Dont frame it like the war on terror, that would be dishonest.
I guess this is just taking the bait, but Noam Chomsky has never accepted any genocide as ok or rational. Stop with the poorly constrcuted strawman.
Yeah its ok to be suspicious of these type of comments, we already know nation states do everything they can to make sure they have the proper PR optics. The US, especially China (genocide), and why not Russia too. The truth is self evident here, Kazak leadership is just another neo-colonial muppet for whoever is calling the shots on natural resources.

These are not Slavs and no they dont belong to Russia in any sense. You can look up the country demographics, the minorities are other former non-Slav soviet nations. Russia has no interest in the rights of the Kazak people, this is just their run up to reverting back to old fashioned imperialism.

The US uses the same play book, just dont get it twisted about Russia's intentions. In any case the whole world will watch and do nothing cause everyone has their own problems ?

If you read Noam Chomsky you will understand that propoganda is used by every country. But if you read enough history you know for damn sure there are no good intentions here, except people asking for their right to a decent way of life.

Worked out pretty well for India, they still court Russia and the US
Re:Internet disrupted in Kazakhstan amid energy price protests on Wednesday January 05, 2022 @05:11PM (#29815781)
That map makes no sense in relation to your comment. The country is mostly ethinic Kazak, and peoples similar in the sense they are more Turkic than Slavic. Calling them Russian seems weird, making a case for irredentism even weirder considering they wont have the same idea as what is the "motherland."

Russia trying to recreate the USSR, I can see. They will start with the states the West is concerned with the least.

Re:How to Write about Africa (2019) on Tuesday January 04, 2022 @08:47AM (#29794642)
Heres a reminder of Gel-Mann amnesia, Im seeing alot of speculative comments on colonialism in a broad sense in Africa. Which is fine, but the nuance is that there were many different colonizers, they left all at different times, and their influence is very much still being used to maintain resource rights and extraction. Without a small bit of history and perspective you might assume the dictators are a direct result of their respective people's poor choices. The cold war wasnt easy on Africa. People are still desperate for changes that aren't serving the status quo.

Did anyone do their degree in comparitive politics of Africa?

Political Science is hard because everyone has such a strong bias and a lot to say about it. Dont forget your grains of salt.

I get what your trying to say, that they are consistent of stories and moral tales, but the Quran dosent go into many details. Its mostly references to the stories with a few details. It is self described as a clear warning rather.

If you read the english translation then the beauty of the language is completely lost on you, and also much of the meaning. Especially if you are coming from an English only background.

If there is a day when no one believes in the religon, the beauty of language will be how it is remembered. Arabs have very strong oral traditions.

Yeah, but your comment comes off as "be happy with what you get." Having grattitude is a path to being content with the situation.

But you are ignoring the horrible inequality, the deprevation and lack of resources at the bottom. You are ignoring the pay for play politics, the influence the ultra rich buy at the cost of ordinary tax payers. Your argument reflects the recursive idea that because one has more money they deserve for rights to representation. This ends with up with a poor quality of life for people who should have a fair shot at the American dream.

China isnt doing the US any favors, lets not pretend any nation state of that size on either side has alturistic intentions.

But I am wondering why you are framing it like its no bid deal. How much does China share with the US?

There is a history of IP theft, and its not for the betterment of mankind it's self interest. You could point fingers but then the whole world goes blind.

Nationalism is blindness, better to be patriotic but not blind.

Yeah but this is a foriegn government. That government should not dictate how we run our government at all. There should be no bias in domestic policy based on a foriegn actors dictates. What if this were Taiwan. The story would be very different .

Can I say both your comment and the parents are cathardic to me. I just dont see the appeal of social media anymore. Living through transition from people being in the moment to now everyone documenting everything so they can brag about it online is odd to me. Early on it was a great tool to reconnect people. When it started becoming integrated into daily life things got messy.

People can now advertise themselves, and present a highly constrcted image of how they want to be seen. The lack of authenticity apparently not problematic, or is a blind spot as they complain about the fakeness in social media on the same platform.

It's the race to the bottom for your attention. Low quality references and expressions, a recursive meme. A new slang for thoughts that have no depth.

Perhaps I just never understood it, and I am the weirdo. Thats what people tell me.

The silver lining, maybe this social platform, HN, has made me feel like Im not the only one. Perhaps thats what this whole thing is about.

Yeah, you're being sarcastic by using past history. Nice...

Maybe we could cancel some debt.

Living in a world where might makes right dosent end well for anyone. Not even the victors, not anymore.

While we can't change the past we can learn from it, like South Africa. It takes some truth and reconciliation to make things better. Not perfect.

That's the goal, move the bar a little higher. Not solve everything all at once, that's impossible.

Better than " O well, thats history."

Its easy to make jokes, do the hard thing. That negativity really dosent add to anything.

Yeah, I can see how you could frame it that way. But there is some basic context that is missing. Most policies used by the IMF are a result of a developing economy (country) wanting to be competitve on the international level and trade more. These loans are based on policies that dont work and are designed to put those countries into a form of servitude by struggling to repay debts (see import substitution).

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Import_substitution_industri...

Another method is to build infrastructure and make it impossible to pay back the interest. The IMF works in concert with the World Bank.

This model of manipulation is the way you rule the empire now. Why fight wars that arent profitable when you can manipulate economies on a macro level.
