Re:Btrfs/ZFS/bcachefs under workloads classic benchmarks skip on Sunday September 20, 2026 @03:20AM (#49773328)
Love to hear that there will be more real hw tests. At the moment I am building NAS and used your benchmark for evaluating the filesystems. I am glad to see that your data roughly matches mine (apart from scrub which on 4x 6tb HDDs took 15 hours for md-raid10 while CoW systems took seconds). Personally I found that array of HDDs behaves very differently than GH runner (my feeling is that since it runs on same disk you are testing theoretical throughput rather than ability to utilize disks). My tests gave an idea for following topologies:

  * 4 HDDs (for example dm-raid has read balancing optimized specifically for HDDs)
  * 5 HDDs (classical raid should see no improvement but btrfs and bcachefs should balance the load)
  * 4 SSDs
  * 3 HDDs + 1 SSD no tiering
  * 2 HDDs + 2 SSD no tiering
  * 1 drive 10x larger than others (since how bcachefs and btrfs allocators work)
  * nocow
Thanks for awesome work

I think this might be the issue. If something has zero effect in the end, why should I care about in the first place?
Well, you don't even need a radar. Tamara sensor could detect B-2, when it had it's onboard radar on.

It is possible view source Org file where is code for gnuplot. (Tip: switch to code view as gitlab view does not understand source blocks)

Honestly I love seeing org-mode and babel, whenever possible.

My guess is, it has to do with cam streamers and ability for people to develop extensions for streaming platforms for their devices. Lovesense, for example, became shorthand for "toy controlled by chat" on streaming sites.

I never got this. Can't you just decide to use subset of the language? No-one forces people to use every single feature. It's okay to use C++ like "C with classes" and occasionally cool new thing, when it is right tool for the job. Only people where this argument is truly valid are compiler/tools people.

I dont think this is about workers preference. People without oversight can get unsure about how to execute task and need validation, but when directly asked nobody will tell you they like micromanaged (seen this). Other thing I've seen is people without supervision producing less/lower quality results.

On Android where alternate storefronts are a possibility, I have yet to be made aware of a single instance of this happening. Not even Epic in their crusade against established mobile stores made its' own platform.

There seems to be addon for Matrix to do that. https://github.com/nordeck/matrix-meetings
Well if you are not looking for Matrix (although it perfectly fits your description), XMPP is probably the closest.

As someone who has not done enough object oriented programing not to confuse "private" and "protected" on every occasion I would welcome this to all languages.
In czech republic state flag is not always displayed. Some schools have picture of president in classrooms but it is more of a rare sight. Also there is a separate subject about topics ranging from state symbols to law creation. so yes it probably is US thing
Re:ProcMon for Linux (Preview) on Thursday May 06, 2021 @05:48AM (#27061009)
Even though I don't use procmon on windows basically never. Sysinternals on linux could be useful especially with same gui as on windows. It would be great to see autoruns and tcpview on linux.

Ask HN: Does Anybody Use XQuery?

I am currently working on where I plan to do configuration through xml file and it got me me thinking "I could learn XQuery and use it." Since XQuery is at least by my understanding "SQL for XML". But when looking for ways to use it. I thought "Does anybody actually use it?" and "How off am I actually understanding it?"

Re:ISO 8601: a better date format on Friday February 26, 2021 @03:26AM (#26272535)
Date and time are separated by "T" and timezone is specifiable but optional.

From wikipedia: "If a time zone designator is required, it follows the combined date and time. For example, "2007-04-05T14:30Z" or "2007-04-05T12:30−02:00"."

Ask HN: Is there any database with physical/chemical properties of substances?

Hello, are there any databases of with various properties of chemical substances (like chemspider), which I could host myself locally? The idea is I want to look for substances by their properties (for example melting point). I know there online databases, but they only allow to search by name which is opposite of what i want to do. I also ask specifically for database because spreadsheet will...
