Ask HN: Books that have stood the test of time?
Sometimes, time is the best differentiator for good and not so good content. Would love some tips on books (fiction and non-fiction) that have stood the test of time, books that we're written in a different age but are still relevant.I'm thinking at least ten years old but preferably even older.
It might happen in a 30 second Youtube clip on Techcrunch or in a published interview, either way it's still vital to try to be prepared when it happens.
He didn't forget the Xbox, but he did give the impression that he wouldn't consider it a success.
Removing Features [On bloating apps with features and saying no]
Also, could you give an example when the Yes/No option doesn't work and when the added complexity of presenting several actions is justified?
Watching inspiring talks like these are a real godsend for me, especially since i don't have the possibility to attend anything similar to this in real life. We don't have many web or startup related events here in Gothenburg (Sweden) and the availability of them online is as close as i come to meet these incredible people. :)
I did not double check to make sure that it's exactly what we're talking about, simply trying to help. :)
Windows Could Use a Rush of Fresh Air
"Hongli Lai has compared a dummy scaffold application from Rails 1.2 to Rails 2.0 and found the latter to be 30-50% faster. That’s great to see.
But what I think is even more interesting is the progress we’ve been making on performance optimizations for more substantial applications. Rails 2.0 made a lot of progress for applications with lots of assets and for ones with big routes.rb files. The forthcoming Rails 2.1 will move things forward even further."
Ask YC: Proper way to ask seperate questions in comments?
Just now, i had to ask myself what to do when i were commenting on http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=138249 .Basically, i had two unrelated questions to raise for the same article. Should i have done it the way i did, asked both questions in the same comment or should i have asked them in different comments to branch two different discussions. What is the etiquette?
Have we heard of any third-party developers that has been accepted into the beta program?
