News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

GizmoSwan

I would be surprised if they did not have a back door in the chip's firmware but so far nobody had found or talked about it.

They can intercept post de-encryption data if they hack the firmware during design period and get access.

Great minds think alike! I have seen the Parasite too but few months before the other one.

The Parasite has won an Oscar I think.

Hilarious
Re:The Great Gatsby: Misunderstood Novel on Tuesday February 09, 2021 @11:10PM (#26085659)
Yes it did mention the Gatsby. The author was obviously interpreting the psycho-thriller angle by design.

The privileged versus unprivileged; being trapped and unable to achieve the dream and living with unfulfilled desires...

Indecision is suppose to be bad but it is probably a natural response to possibility of poor outcome.

It all depends on the risks.

Re:The Great Gatsby: Misunderstood Novel on Tuesday February 09, 2021 @10:41PM (#26085504)
I have seen several versions of it in the movies which were easier to interpret than the novel.

Few months ago, I even saw a Korean version called The Burning on netflix!

Hair thin anything can look transparent though. I seems to be paper thin.

As building products go, I believe rot resistant glass infused wood as a substitute for pressure treated wood is a more useful product specially in humid regions.

DNA testing should be double blind. I have no idea if it is.

Sample contamination can be arranged before sent to the lab though.

Participating in illegal activities does not make the coin more valuable but rather makes illegal transactions possible and criminalized the bit coin trade and hence soon it will become regulated.

So it is not like a bank transfer which is legit.

How are they cashing bit coin to eat?

The conversion has occur somewhere or they whole world has to accept bit coin and participate in tax evasion schemes by being so called unbanked.

There is limit to bit coin usage and alike and they will eventually hit the limitation and regulation.

The unbanked people are not buying Tesla. They will pay the tax.

Yes but once they are used for tax evasion and underground economy they can become worthless in hands of people that deal with it as a legal asset. Governments can regulate any asset class.
To an unbanked! person in Los Angeles? In a black market?

It is taxable in your hand as well as theirs. So any tax avoidance agenda makes the trade illegal.

What is the monetary benefit for Tesla when accepting the bitcoin currency ? Is it going to charge more in bitcoin?

Is Tesla using it as an investment thing? Is it for publicity? What is the benefit?

Re:Talent Is Largely a Myth on Sunday February 07, 2021 @07:42PM (#26059593)
Yes, don't you know:

Einstein could have been the best ballet dancer! Michael Phelps could have been the next Tesla! .... NOT

Talent is not specific at birth but it has direction. Certain types of processing are more natural for certain brains and the outcomes are random given the opportunities to master a certain skill.

Talent and interest go hand in hand. The interest is the driver but it won't exist without the processing ability and opportunity.

Billionaires can avoid paying taxes equal to what people make in life time. It is fraud.

Why should Bernie Madoff gone to jail then?! if some guy can steal a car then?

The scale matters.

'Evaluations of an economy's productivity performance are made using a measure of real gross domestic product (GDP), which represents the constant dollar income (labour income plus profits) that an economy generates through domestic production, with the volume or constant dollar indices being calculated from the prices'

'DP=(GDP/Hours)*(Hours), (1)

where Hours is the total number of worker-hours.

Chart 1 depicts changes in each of these components over time. For the entire 1961-to-2012 period, labour productivity advanced at a 1.9% annual average, accounting for slightly more than half of the increase in GDP growth. The rest is attributed to hours, which increased at 1.5% per year on average.

Aggregate GDP measures the returns to both labour and capital. Distributional concerns lead to questions about whether the share going to labour increases over time and, in particular, how productivity growth is related to real income.'

Now that this is open information, they may have wasted all that cash.

Let see what happens.

Re:Madagascar reckons with an invasive crayfish on Wednesday February 03, 2021 @11:13AM (#26015038)
So their economy is now dependent on this newly acquired evasive specie. Very interesting article.

'In Mahasoa, nearly everyone participates in the crayfish economy in one way or another. People use them to fatten up pigs and chickens, or eat them with rice'

Block chain is just a frozen link list database. It has its uses and every big software company has it and can offer it.

It can support all sort of permanent registry stuff and protect against tampering.

Re:SpaceX SN9 Explodes on Landing on Wednesday February 03, 2021 @03:26AM (#26011708)
Nope. A purposely designed aircraft is simulated is not one that is elongated with flight control data being patched.

Example of how it works: https://www.darcorp.com/advanced-aircraft-analysis-software/

The bureaucracy had nothing to do with it. They did not want to spend the money to create a new craft. The long bodies aircraft was not airworthy physically speaking and so the software was designed to limit its pitch to prevent it from stalling.

All aircrafts can stall and some angle of attack but a long+narrow aircraft is way more sensitive.

Design of an aircraft from scratch would have flagged it as poor design right away.

Good work. That is how it should be measured.

In economics as far as I know, they measure productivity via salaries. The more money people make, the more productive they are assumed to be!

They may have different type of approvals I+II could be technically integrated .

FDA is not a universal regulator. Different countries can have different procedures.

Re:SpaceX SN9 Explodes on Landing on Wednesday February 03, 2021 @01:53AM (#26011263)
737-max crashed because they never went through full blown simulation and acceptance procedures for it. They just made the body longer and compensated for differentials in flight control software parameters but they had a blind spot in their assumptions. Those aircrafts have decades of air flight simulation behind them and yet ....

Shuttle is a much finer craft but these guys may have different objectives and that is their prerogative. The fact that there are errors in there that can lead to explosion is troubling to me.

The claim that the explosions will lead towards a better design is an assumption.

Re:SpaceX SN9 Explodes on Landing on Wednesday February 03, 2021 @01:30AM (#26011158)
I just want to know how you know that "you" are incredibly right in this. You are just speculating like everybody else here. There is no quality or quantitative measurement available here for you to make these absolute statements. The only thing that I can gather from your text is that a lot can go wrong in fact.

Having the prototype that is exploding is NOT fine at this stage and that is "my" opinion. Your opinion is yours alone.

You are basically claiming your analysis is indisputable and that it has to be accepted and your belief in people's intelligence makes it so and I am stupid because you believe that they are smarter.

It is not matter of getting it right the first time and improvements in parts and efficiency. It is about having it never explode after the first round.

I don't care who you believe they are beating in the market place and how magnificent you believe this rocket is.

Good luck if you are associated with this venture. If so you are allowed to pump it.

Re:SpaceX SN9 Explodes on Landing on Tuesday February 02, 2021 @11:00PM (#26010466)
747 can not flip like that; it would stall and crash. The narrow bodied 737s crashed for less. Their fancy flight computer miscalculated because of center of gravity miscalculations. They crashed after 100s of flights.

I like your optimism. Good luck. I mean it. I would not fly in that thing even if they paid me a million.

Sorry for my lack of faith.

Re:Sputnik V vaccine peer reviewed with efficacy of 91.6% on Tuesday February 02, 2021 @10:48PM (#26010398)
If some western countries start to purchase it, we will see much better behavior by the approved suppliers.

I will be ok with getting even the sputnik vaccine; I will be ok with J&J, Pfizer or Moderna or whatever that is approved. They are playing games in distributing the vaccines though. They are selling vaccines that they don't plan to distribute while playing territorial wars.

I recall reading a thread by healthcare professionals, expert in viral diseases during the onset, not sure where exactly. They were basically saying that the virus can only linger on surfaces for max 3 days. Knowing that fact stopped some of my paranoia about packages.

Articles that I read indicated that a simple cloth reduced transmission by infected person by about 50%. Humble fiber dense cotton cleaning cloth, by 70%. Multiple layers were even more effective.

My research indicated that salt would disintegrate the virus. I made my own masks and spread very fine salt made in coffee grinder on them and my gloves to improve the effectiveness.

So far so good.

Isn't he the same guy that targeted the woman in Florida's Department of Health to shut her up about COVD data?

Hippocracy

Re:SpaceX SN9 Explodes on Landing on Tuesday February 02, 2021 @09:47PM (#26009999)
Don't get your hopes up. Since it is rotating on an axis while moving and twice, it has a huge degree of freedom for failure.

Even if successfully returns 100 times, any untested change to its payload can change the parameters which are apparently unknown because they have not used any fancy simulation.

Good luck. I will be watching and ready to say I told you so. The staff could be absolute geniuses by they will not be able to foresee all the unexpected results.
