And you wouldn't love a new set of PDP-11 switches?
Re:Ask HN: OpenOffice or LibreOffice? on Tuesday January 25, 2011 @06:16PM (#2141386)
As of now, LibreOffice is equal to, if not better, then OpenOffice as it was only forked off of it about 4 months ago. If you're already using OO.o then switching to LibreOffice will be a snap and you won't have to worry about Oracle.

I recommend Terminus. It's easy on the eyes and looks great in smaller sizes
Re:GNOME on GNUstep: First look on Monday December 27, 2010 @04:42PM (#2043735)
It's good to know there's still interest in GNUstep. You barely ever see work with it or on it any more, Sony's work being a rare exception and only temporary.
Hackety-hack is a wonderful piece of software for teaching programming. Take it from me, it's how I learned a lot of beginning knowledge.

Ask HN: Is Go a program language I should learn

I've been interested in Google's Go programming language for quite a while, but have been too busy to actually learn it. Has it matured enough to be readily useful if I spent the time learning it? Or if not readily useful, then at least a valuable use of my time to learn it?

I would personally recommend boxing, or fisticuffs if you're feeling fancy, since it requires just as much discipline as any Eastern martial art (I also did kenpo karate and Taekwondo for 2 years) and I've found works better for actual defence. Besides that, there's very little of the mysticality that is often found in Eastern martial arts. But remember, to each their own. Try out different ones. Find which one fits you.
