To be fair, Japan is westernized
This is an interesting concept but unfortunately the article seems like an ad instead of an explanation.

I'd love to see some case studies of this being used in production systems

Re:Ask HN: What book changed your life? on Sunday March 20, 2022 @06:53AM (#30741627)
The book isn't about motivation, it's about steps that you can take that make creating new habits easier. In fact, the book tells you that motivation wanes quickly and we need to force ourselves to create determination instead
Re:Ask HN: Why the obsession with note taking? on Thursday January 27, 2022 @06:31AM (#30099159)
does that actually work though?
Re:Sublime Clojure on Tuesday December 14, 2021 @04:01PM (#29557659)
Why do you want to code in the repl when you can code in the editor and eval in the repl?
Re:Sublime Clojure on Tuesday December 14, 2021 @11:03AM (#29553048)
This is really great. I'm not willing to move from IntelliJ but the exceptions and inline evaluation are something I would love to have in Cursive
Did you get tests to confirm that all of those cases were covid?

Ask HN: Audio Only Tech Talks

I like to listen to podcasts while I run, it helps me keep distracted easier than music.I thought that I might as well listen to some talks and learn stuff in the process. The problem is that most talks show code or diagrams that need video. Are there any good tech talks that are audio only, or where the video is for support only?

Re:This implanted microchip may one day control your sleep on Tuesday September 21, 2021 @05:40AM (#28603408)
So you're saying I should eat more to sleep better?
Re:This implanted microchip may one day control your sleep on Monday September 20, 2021 @07:16PM (#28600256)
If I could get 8 hours of proper sleep and feel energized in the morning I would take this in a heartbeat. I would even take it with unskippable ads lol
Re:An app called Libby and the big business of library e-books on Thursday September 02, 2021 @10:54AM (#28392803)
They don't allow non US residents anymore, at least they didn't when I last checked
Re:An app called Libby and the big business of library e-books on Thursday September 02, 2021 @10:17AM (#28392304)
Libby is really good. Unfortunately the library I was using (Philadelphia) stopped renovating cards for non-residents so I had to go back to piracy
Re:Ask HN: Non-sci-fi fiction recommendations? on Wednesday August 11, 2021 @05:05PM (#28147717)
Try Blindness by Saramago. It's kind of science-fictiony in the theme but its literary fiction.

Ask HN: What is the HN of Cryptocurrency?

Hackernews is what I would consider a website with solid discussion about technology. However it's extremely skeptical when it comes to cryptocurrency.I'd like know if there is a similar technically minded community for crypto.I sometimes read /r/CryptoCurrency but its mostly shilling and asking about prices, so it doesn't really interest me.

Re:No Code Reviews by Default on Wednesday June 23, 2021 @12:53PM (#27606707)
The fact that people open PRs because they are working on a new part of the code means that there's knowledge silos in the team that could be easily solved with code reviews.
The "difficult" kids in school are the ones who need help the most.

They either have learning disabilities or difficult family/social situations that lead them to either not try or not care about school.

To say that teachers should put less effort into these kids due to "low ROI" is frankly very privileged.

Re:Ask HN: Who is hiring? (May 2021) on Tuesday May 04, 2021 @05:39AM (#27035610)
Thanks! I'm asking because I've applied before and wanted to know if I didn't get a response because of experience or location. That was super helpful :)
Re:Ask HN: Who is hiring? (May 2021) on Monday May 03, 2021 @01:26PM (#27027974)
Do you hire in literally everywhere or only in specific countries?
Does Microsoft explicitly mark their open positions as remote friendly? Or is it a case of talking to the recruiter during the process?
